It has nothing to do with German. They are speaking Hebrew. I am trying to learn Hebrew now. You probably mean that Yiddish would sound like German, but this is not Yiddish, this is Hebrew, which is a Semitic language. Not even the slightest connection to german.

+arktana Not as I see it. At least half are from the middle east and places like Morocco. Of the european, a percentage originate back to those places too, such as the Spanish jews from Morocco. There has been a huge influx from other areas especially eastern europeans whose ancestors go back quite a long way, but then even some of them eventually go back to the Levant. Sources are available, but I live in Israel and even by observation and talking to people this seems to be the overall pattern. However, some areas come up with different results because larger groups of a particular origin have ended up there. I live in the north. Many have backgrounds from Syria, Iran, Iraq, Yemen for example.
