Its understandable when she cant really explain it. A lot of slangs are obviously culture-related. Slangs are national inside-jokes

As a isreali... She explained it really well. But I guess still some of it sounded wierd to those who don't know hebrew

@@itayker22 as an Israeli, I really don't think she did. If I wasn't Israeli I wouldn't understand. There are parallels in English to almost every slang phrase in hebrew she reviewed, that's the best way to explain it.

@@galekenig9907 As a linguist and translator nope, there isn't one for each one. Some are closest to the meaning but it's never ever the exact same meaning or context. I understood very well and I don't know anything about Hebrew.

One of the best definitions I've ever encountered on what is slang. Slang is not as easy due to its constant changes even between same language speaking countries, not to mention within the same country.

Ma Ani Ez?” Haha “Tachles”- can also mean Truth. Like I say something like that “dude, animal cruelty is so wrong” so you can say “Tachles” like “true that” Or when a friends says something and you wanna tell him he’s actually right you’d say “Tachles, You’re right” “Pa’am shlishit Glida” can be used to say when sometimes has happened more than twice like if I see the same person twice at the same day and then I saw him again I will say that, and it’s like you owe me glida haha ice cream. Yeah I am not sure she should present פרחה slang. No one uses balagan kapara and kal. Never heard a single person ever say that.

Can any native Hebrew speakers confirm: is 'shtuyot bemitz' short for 'shtuyot bemitz agvaniyot'? It's something my Israeli dad used to say a lot

well yes, the "agvaniyot" part means tomatoes, so instaed of an ordinary juice you know have tomatoes juice. It makes it more funny and nonsensical. not really a short but more of an other way of saying the same thing. When you want to say that something does not make any sense you can definitely say: what?? that is shtuyot bemitz agvaniyot!

At 1:00, there’s a very similar saying in Tamil. “Kannu Paduradhu”. It’s kinda the same reason you would “Touch” or “Knock on Wood” for. The motions Gal makes are also familiar. One may crack their knuckles against the head to ward the evil eye off. It’s a small world after all folks.

I like how she took control of this at the end and just decided to teach her own slang. Too often I've found a lot of the "slang" terms loaded on the ipads are lacking. I appreciated Gal scrolling through several outdated / unnecessary terms, so as not to waste hers or our time. Much appreciated. Yalla, yalla, yalla.
