Had been trying to get an answer on game length and saw your response to someone who asked and that was a satisfactory answer without spoilers and I'm hoping for a curse of the darkness style of reality for how the length actually is. Are there any unlockables though is what I want to know. I've heard unlockable difficulties, but without spoiling anything is there anything else?

I really liked what I saw of the game from the demo being streamed and this is definitely a must-play for me. It will probably take me a little longer to play it because I plan on pre-ordering the physical release on the Switch, but I think it will be worth waiting because this seems like a game that I'd obsess about getting physically if I didn't already have it. This is a nice contrast from the 2023 releases that have deserved an Indie Krampus award, though it would be cool if Indie Krampus was one of the demons in the game. 😆

While I'm not into the character designs (that's just my taste), the gameplay does seem to be pretty good and it's pretty cool that it's one of the exceptional games of 2023 here. I'll have to consider picking it up for Steam or Switch sometime seeing as I don't have a PS5, but I don't see why it would have issues on Steam at least. Glad to see that this one is better than expected (I didn't expect it to be bad by any means, I just thought it would be 'good' at best) and I appreciate the review as always.

The boss at the end can grab your character for a hold attack, and the game forces a character swap so you can free her by using the other character? That's very clever!

It is fairly fun so far but I have some gripes with design. No map and only compass would be fine for clearing a level the first time. Once cleared you should get a map of that level. Instant death pits are still instant death pits even if it swaps you to the other sister, annoying when it didn't have to be. Bosses are awesome looking but are complete pushovers especially how they handled boss health if you die to them. This is more arcade/co-op oriented than I'd like which explains some of the design choices that take a bit away from the experience. Making exploration sub-weapons have a finite resource pads out secrets needlessly as you run out of juice just as you've figured something out.

I agree that bosses shouldn't start with less health, at least on Veteran. I'd add to that; that 'desperation attacks' should be able to kill you on veteran, or just on Legendary if we had access to that difficulty option from the start, which I also kinda think we should. I love the game and think it's perfect in all other ways... Well there is one feature where the pillar portals don't open as a destination for the first time until you've ignored them and entered the next level which can catch out early explorers.

Nice to see a PS5 review. I love the PlayStation's d-pad for platformers. Also, some simplistic looking indie titles have begun to struggle on Switch, regarding frame rate. Glad to see, that the game runs absolutely smooth on PS5. Definitely gonna pick it up. :)

As someone who has never even heard of the Gal series this is a huge change in style from the otherwise sexual perverted series. I’m totally fine with this new change. I can see myself playing a metroidvania than some dumb sexual rail shooter.

I've gotta be annoying people. Every time i see a Grim Guardians video i gotta jump in the comments and talk about the collectors edition i bought. I've been trying to spread the word but the damn thing finally sold out. They might have more though. Luminous Avenger sold out a bunch but i think it's available again. Anyways, thanks for the review. Love Inticreates and can't wait to play this one tomorrow. I hope they release it at midnight.

Someone else asked this and it's a bit hard to answer without spoilers. One run could take about 4-5 hours if you were just mainlining, but you'll need to do more than one. Hope that doesn't give too much away.

While the theme/setup in general is a bit weird to me in that I don't see why they had to bring Gal Gun into this when they have already made amazing, less tonally inconsistent Castlevania-style games before in the fantastic Curse of the Moon duology, I'm definitely looking forward to this - aside from the janky rushjob that was iX 2, Inti Creates has yet to make a platformer I don't enjoy. (though I really do wish those guys would get their boners under control, not every game needs horny character designs) Quick question though - about how long did it take you to beat the game? I'm gonna get the game anyway, but I'm curious what to expect.

I gotta kinda tip toe around this one. You can do a playthrough in about 4 to 5 hours if you main line, but there is much much more. Sorry I can't be more specific but I don't want to ruin the game! You'll play multiple times I'll just say that!
