PS; this video is edited to cut down on time.
Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth's history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

There was a window of time he was scared shitless what happened to morgoth he tried to repent and wander the earth Buddhist monk style healing it. Galadriel kept giving him little tastes of power and pushing him. Eventually maybe he would have gone back to his old ways (he did in the book but I can’t remember what made him relapse it was vague or not mentioned) but she found him during that window when he genuinely was trying to repent and live humbley. In the books what happened to morgoth after the war scared him so bad he tried to be good for a bit and lie low.

An insult to Galadriel… she’s very perceptive and can see into the minds/hearts of others. She knew something was not right about “Annatar” and immediately distrusted him. How on Middle-Earth could the writers/Anazon disrespect and insult Tolkien and Galadriel and make her not aware that something isn’t right with Halbrand and make her very 1 dimensional. The real Galadriel would have known something aint right about Halbrand.

Your acting like the writers at Amazon actually read any of the books. The got cliff notes from the show runners that contained only what they wanted to keep. Okay, whatever my issues with the series, this dude is pretty much how I imagined Sauron to be in the Second Age. In most images I have come across of Sauron in the Second Age, he appears ethereal and nearly godlike. But why would Sauron adopt such a form, if he was trying to manipulate and deceive people? That is how he earned his name, 'Sauron the Deceiver'. He presented himself as a Maia of Aule, it is true. But...IMO, if he had shown up before Celebrimbor or anyone else as he has always been pictured, it would be too obvious that he was not just any Maia and could spell trouble. Much better to fly under the radar. Tolkien only describes Sauron in the Second Age as "fair to look upon" i.e. handsome. This guy fits the bill. In the First Age, Sauron was openly terrorizing people and known by the Elves as Gorthaur the Cruel. But in the Second Age, in Numenor, he is working through deception, being kind and helpful as part of his plan, hiding his true nature. This works, it really does.

People who are complaining about this compared to Annatar is that from a cinematic standpoint, Annatar would have been boring. Even people who aren't familiar with the lore at all would have seen from miles away that something wasn't right, if not correctly guess it was Sauron. And then the complaints would've rolled in about how predictable it was that he was a baddie all along. Plus, the fact that Galadriel, Gi-galad, AND Elrond all were suspicious would have only added more annoyance to the predictability. It's probably why Tolkien only really wrote cliff notes about the Second Age. Versus full-on novels like LOTR and even the Silmarillion. Obviously great lore for a story, but the material wouldn't have been engaging enough to be its own story/novel.
@chadleach6009

This was even more boring and predictable though........ No one was surprised by this reveal and at least keeping Tolkiens original story would have, ya know, remainder faithful to the source material.

@@chadleach6009 Check your spelling and grammar next time. It took at least a couple scenes for people to pick up there was something off with Halbrand. Annatar would have been an instant, "Sus" Also, it's clear by this comment and others you've written that you have an unhealthy amount of beef with the show. So, naturally, you would look at every actual and self-imagined chance to rip it apart. And yes, some people were still surprised.

@@punkthatiscyber9091 at least with Annatar it would have been lore accurate and not been a fan fiction character. I'm sure there are some people who enjoyed this show, it's just those that enjoyed the works of tolken. Those that liked it just wanted a generic fantasy story, not what the professor wrote.

@@chadleach6009 You're not even responding to what I'm saying. Just spouting off whatever thought comes to mind without other considerations. Again, you have to consider what would actually engage a tv/movie audience and what wouldn't. Your mentality would plunge an adaptation into a ditch in an instant. Tell me one film/tv show adaptation that 100% reflects the books they're based off of. Exactly. Books and media are two very different forms of storytelling. What works for one doesn't inherently work for the other. You do realize that Peter Jackson's LOTR is not lore friendly, and yet...they are some of the most beloved films of all time. To both people who were already familiar and to those that weren't. But if they, and other commercials successes like the Harry Potter films, were 100% like the books.... they would never have reached the same success. Media can't focus on things that books can, and vice versa. One can deliver plot points in ways that the other can't, especially if you want the same impact.

@@punkthatiscyber9091 one that had galadriel not showing up in numenor, act as xena warrior Karen entitled and determined to speak to the manager. By your logic half of LOTR should have been cut to make room for more ham fisted fight scenes where galadriel kicks some ork butt. Where in the original series did you have characters breaking established lore? All I've heard so far is aragon got his sword at a different time....... Is the Jackson film a perfect representation of tolkeins world, no, but it certainly remains faithful to the.source material. The ROP isn't even set in the same universe at this point with the number of lore breaking unnecessary additions and inconsistencies made in the show. It's an expensive fan fiction for people that just wanted a generic fantasy, not a work of tolkeins.

This series has been a big disappointment from the beginning to the end of this episode. Galadriel wants to avenged her brothers death by searching for Sauron. He finally revealed himself as the killer and what does Galadriel do she lets Sauron walk free. If this storyline didn’t get any worst she lets Sauron walk free to Season 2.. Rings of Power is such a waste of time…

Series is so fake. How can a married woman like Galadriel lose her husband when we all witness Galadriel and Celebron holding hands in the Fellowship of the Rings. Are writers trying to hook these to up..? Beyond belief it’s pathetic
