i live near a large animal sanctuary in Victoria, Australia. A lot of the birds in there are varieties of cockatoos including galahs. A lot of the birds outlived their owners who did not have plans in place for the bird once they died. It is important to remember when buying these birds that you have a next of kin included in your will in order for your bird to to not end up in a position of distressing your bird too much.

Fellow Galah owner here. I would say this is spot on. My nugget is very demanding and it took her awhile to warm up. She wants constant attention and stimulation. These birds will keep you on your tippy toes. Though if you are willing to put in the time, great companion. Any pet should be part of your family. The Galah assumes she is 😅

Australian here, love your videos. First time I’ve heard it pronounced guh-luh. Maybe it’s pronounced differently elsewhere 😂. But yeah usually pronounced ga-la, really emphasising the a’s. Also, there’s a bunch of these guys who just live around my area, they’re super cute when they fly down to drink from my dams. Absolutely adorable birds.

It's pronounced Ga-LAH with emphasis on the second syllable. I'm lucky to live in an area of South Australia where these fellas are everywhere and are crazy birds in a good way. They are often seen hanging upside down during a rainshower, which allows for the cleaning of their feathers. I once knew a lady who was given a Galah chick in 1925 when she was 5 years old. She lived to be 85, and the bird outlived her for another 4 years...

I love your review series - both fascinating and educational. Can you please review Senegal parrots at some point?
Take a look at the Twenty Eight parrot native to Western Australia, awesome bird. Not really a talker, but will give kisses and hang with you just about all day long, so long as you hand raise them from a young age. They are nice looking parrots and great companions. My rescue boy used to sit on my shoulder while I rode along on the tractor and planted new trees, he loved it, until at three years old he flew off with a female who kept visiting him. All my medium sized parrots used to go in the car with me and perch on the head piece of my drivers' seat, they used to go to the pet cafe when it was open and sit on my shoulder often when I went out. They now inhabit a huge flight aviary in my backyard. They take turns visiting me inside and having days with Mum. 😄

They are highly affectionate and comical creatures, however a word of advice on pronunciation, I hear you saying it in the way you would pronounce a gala (festival), however it's pronounced evenly Gaalaah as in ga ga ga, la la la, G a l a h. Our galah is now 50 years and going strong. He loves eating anything you are eating - his favourite snack is a chicken bone from a roast. Everything goes into the water dish to soften before he eats it - including the metal springs on wooden clothes pegs. His bites go to the bone when he's unhappy. Your bird there looks hot or stressed with all that panting.

Couple of things mate, not sure what your pet store told you, but I'm not sure that bird is 100% galah... i think it's a cross with a sulphur. If the store said they lived from 50 t 70 years, that makes sense. Sulphur crested cockatoos live from 50 to 100 years (!), and galahs are a little less than that. Also. I'm very grateful you call it a galah, more often, Americans call them rose breasted cockatoos- something they are never called over here, but your pronunciation needs some work. The way you said it is the way an Aussie would say "gala". We don't emphasise the "a" in the beginning of the word. It's not a perfect analogy, but if you pronounced it a if it rhymed with "blah" possibly even a shortened "yada"... Finally, DEFINITELY let kids interact with these things. BUT they need to be supervised and taught, just like learning any other skill. Leaving a kid alone with any animal is a recipe for disaster. One last thing.... learn to build! All the stuff i have for my birds is home made. A perch is a stick! The seeds with wood chips is a good idea.

I would say that parrots tend to not appreciate the types of gestures you're making, especially so close to their faces. Aside from that, as others have said the pronunciation is guh-laa. This is elementary-level information that you've clearly just grabbed from Wikipedia and/or overviews which are easily Googled. Very low effort. Can I ask why the bird was panting this entire video? It seems genuinely uncomfortable.
