Had my gear for a couple of months now, and as a wagon driver i find it very useful for taking calls and texting via voice on the go, also as stated in the review i NEVER miss calls anymore, my note 3 only ever see's the light of day on my breaks which means i now only charge the phone once every 2 to 3 days, the watch i charge over night even though it only take 90mins to fully charge, its cool and i don't regret buying it.

Good review. Practical advice from someone who actually used it is always better than speculating. Thank you. I'm getting my gear soon. When i was considering buying my first tablet i always thought... but what am i gonna use it for? Then i realised... once i have it, i will find uses for it. now i don't know how i lived without it. im sure the gear will do the same for me.

well for starters, you don't know the full potential of something till you own it, and yeah, you wont make a single movie until you actually buy a camera. I'm unclear as to how that surprises you. Do you make lots of movies without them? I just got the Pebble and I completely agree with the vibration feature, small but very helpful. I also love the quick access to music controls but boy do I wish I had a mic and speaker on this. I think the Gear will be a slam dunk product on the second revision but this is already very impressive. I'm also curious to see what Google has in store for us. Great video, thorough and well stated, kudos good sir.

Daily charge? He must be on it 24/7 or I dont hardly use it. Yes I get my emails, text messsages, phone calls, snapchats, and check time throughout the day and can go up to a 3-4 days without charging it with still around 20-30% battery life its amazing. I also turn it off at night since I dont use it when im sleeping and slap it back on in the morning. Dont believe him when he saids you NEED to charge it every day. Also it charges ridiculously fast, you can charge it while you take a shower and have it back to almost full battery.

I would love to have Galaxy note 3 the 10.1 2014 edition and a GEAR, I went to the local electronics store and looked at all 3 and now i want all 3, well maybe one day. Well thought out and done review. Sometimes tech people don't actually use the product before pushing out a review based on emotion and not experience. The video was also excellent. The price point in my opinion is too high right now for basically being a phone companion. :)

Can you have a bluetooth headset connected with the watch as well so that when you answer calls from the watch the call goes straight to the headset instead of the speaker?

kirk soccorso I bought the watch and even though you can have them both connected at the same time, it doesn't go straight to headset after accepting calls from the watch. It just gives you two options: If you want to talk through the watch you accept the calls on the watch, but if you want to talk to someone through the headset you just accept the calls through your headset. You can just now know who is calling by looking at your watch before answering on the headset.

I've had my gear for a little over 45 days and am loving it. Sure I am a senior (60+) techie, but it's great. I use it to answer calls when out and about. I even snapped some family pictures at our Thanksgiving dinner in Chicago. All were impressed!! Keep it coming.

+Andreas Arnøy it still charges fine. however I got an other problem. for the past couple of weeks it keeps rebooting at some point in the day. I also get a low battery warning and it says it's at 11% but when I look 10 minutes later it says it's around 60%. i think it's time for me to upgrade as mine is as good as dead.

You can side load apps as well on this device as well. You can even run emulators like nes to run super Mario brothers if you want. Also since the gear software was updated you can now read your gmail on the galaxy gear.

You should try out Pebble as well. It's much more affordable and for me personally hit the sweet spot between what should and shouldn't be on your wrist. In my opinion Galaxy Gear takes it too far.

That's because there is a law in many countries that doesn't allow to make stealth photos, and the device must make a sound so that others know that you are taking a photo of them. Same reason some cameras blink a tiny LED when taking photos.

Kind of like my first mobile phone (which was probably Virgin Mobile's first flip phone) I miss using this. I recently bought a charger for it, and going to see if it will pair with the Note 8. But while I like my Samsung Gear S2 and my Samsung Gear 2 (which was the best version if you ask me) I still actually really liked this original model too.

You claim that the biggest failure of the gear is daily charging of the battery. Did you not realize that by turning down the brightness you could make it last for up to 3-4 days? Pretty major omission...almost seems a little biased even.

I've been researching the Gear. And I find many of the short comings are software based. The hardware is solid, which I can't say the same for the pebble. The app ecosystem will come. And if you want a solid ecosystem you can always Root the device.

This is what reviews need! Long term use. Anyone who puts down this device because of its current limited capabilities is missing the point. Today's devices, especially Samsung's undergo mass development over time. A big thank you to Samsung for putting out the first promising smart watch. Now that Galaxy s4 has become compatible (and because I'm a college student studying to be a developer) I'm selling some of my extra things off for some extra cash to buy Galaxy Gear with.

If it was more like 100 bucks I would get it. I can see it being useful at times when I'm on the go. And by im on the go, I mean I'm running and wanting to change a song, or start a timer, or call someone.(I'm a letter carrier, can't stop for a second if I want to finish in time:p) I think its a good idea to reinvent the watch, but the price is way too much.

Yeah, I don't know why so many people complain about the battery life. Mine lasts almost a week. And this is with heavy usage. I turn mine off at night, but I mean, why do you need your phone on AND your watch on at night when you're asleep anyway? But yes, the vibration is something I love. It makes for getting notifications way less annoying to people around me because I'm in a business environment.

I work for a major phone company and I received my choice of S4 or Note 3 along with a Galaxy Watch for free. Personally I wouldn't pay $300 for this watch because it has major limitations and the S4 is a tad bit overrated, the Note 3 is the real deal, and the G2 by LG might be the best android on the market.

Galaxy Gear is too locked down. My Sony LiveView is still live and kicking, with at least 4 days of battery life it's no comparison. The extra camera is more of a gimmick on the Gear. Nice review, very unbiased and well grounded.

I have the Sony Smartwatch 2. It is cheaper and connects to any android device. It has less unecessary features than the galaxy gear has. It pushes all the right notifications to my wrist, and it normally has a 48 hour battery life. I have used this watch with the droid razr and now with the Droid Maxx. It works beautifully on both. It does all that it needs to do and uses the play store as its main place to get apps.
