I just fixed a dead FC on my RCI-2980 with the help of your video, Thanks a million. Mine had a defective regulator and the wire trick really killed all the noise. Great Video!

Good point on the cap voltages. I am going to use that tip on the next radio i recap. Alternator voltage is 14 to 15 in most of our trucks. Any 16v cap on supply voltage i will definitely go up if i can get the next higher voltage with the dame diameter. Thanks for the tip.

Greetings! I have a Galaxy DX 88HL that I bought back in 1993 and the frequency counter just stopped working. Any suggestions on how to find a replacement display, or can I send it to you for repair? Thank you!

Hi Mike , I have a Texas Ranger FC390 that reads correctly on lsb but fm and usb read way different . Any ideas what could be wrong with the counter ?

great video Mike. cool advice on the counter module. that wire trick is awesome! on the little 47 ohm resistor, if you are going to solder one end to the 7805, and stick a component lead up through the board anyway; couldn't you just use a standard 1/4 watt resistor in that location? yes, a bit ugly, but would there really be any clearance issues? thanks

Hello Mike my Galaxy 99 frequency counter goes berserk every now and again, no one seems to know why. Also did you ever hear of putting Motorola finals in an 88 or 99 Galaxy? Good video, thanks

Do you know if the magnum S3 frequency counter jack should only have 4 wires connected to board I looked at mine and the yellow and orange wires are not connected to board is that normal? BTW how's the electronic course coming along I'm setting up my patron account ow so I can donate to the cause I'm really lookin forward to it

If you change the counters resistor value to a lower value, it will reduce its power dissipation and may allow it to be ok, it will be there to act as a fuse, they should of just used a fuse.
@misterhat58237 жыл бұрын
And it will shift more of the dissipation to the regulator.

To completely remove the frequency counter hum there is a brown wire on one of the plugs on the board, I can't remember which plug at the moment. Add a .1uf 250V 10% metallized polyester film capacitor from that wire to ground. The hum will be 100% removed.

what happens when you turn your counter on and it hums ?
@mikesradiorepair7 жыл бұрын
+Scott Todd The counter module itself is humming? Or do you mean you hear something out of the speaker. Noise out of the speaker, expect that. They are poorly designed and have a lot of digital noise that leaks into the receiver.

It's kind of ironic that the counter board uses a TO-220 regulator and the tiny dropping resistor (physical size) that basically has to absorb the other ~8V of the supply voltage; for something like that I would have expected the regulator to be smaller (or vice versa).

+Dino Papas LOL, you never heard me claim they made good radios. Definitely one of those things you look at and have to wonder what the heck were they thinking.
