Battery drain test of best compact Android phone. I tested the battery life, camera, performance, and thermals of Samsung Galaxy S24 with Exynos 2400, S24 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Google Pixel 8 with Tensor G3, and Sony Xperia 5 V with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Let's see which one is gonna perform the best and last the longest.

The difference between S24 units is crazy. Europe is paying more for an inferior device. Even crazier is the choice of such a small battery for Samsung. I can't imagine SONY is using a crossdimmensional future technology to be able to fit such a bigger battery in a similarly sized device.

I have bought brand new S24 256GB Exynos for only 647€ with 2 years of waranty (Samsung had some special limited offer), comparing to S23 256GB, which still costs 859€ brand new (after a year on the market), so there was no reason to buy it over S24. For that price? I am totally fine with Exynos (was moving from Snapdragon 845).

Hi 👋🏻 I'm from India and a month ago I was planning to buy S24 which is obviously Exynos in my country.. got impressed by the idea of 7 OS updates, modern design but after finding your channel I got enlightened😅 Now I changed my mind and going for S23 which got a big price drop here.. 8Gen2 is way better than 2400 What is the point in getting 7 years OS updates if your phone battery goes literally unusable after 2-3 years! Man you saved me🙏🏻 Hope your channel grows to great heights❤

People like to complain about Sony and their lack of update cycles when compared to others. What those people don't realize is Google some time back changed how the whole thing works, currently they're still updating your phone and it's most important features and security through Play Store updates. And those same updates keep coming even when you run out of official OS and security updates. A phone isn't obsolete and unusable when it's no longer updated to new android version. In fact I'd prefer being on an older OS verision, which lately seem to be more design chnages over anything (AI is not useful for me), than being updated to new android version with bugs which take a long time to fix. Pixels are a great example, they're THE phone for android and they're so buggy... Pixels now have 7 years of official update support but they're on HW that won't even last 3 years! I'd rather pick the phone that will survive longer with older SW, that's also way better spec (headphone jack, memory card!!!, no display cutout...) than something like the Pixel with inferior HW. And I side note, I absolutely love how Xperia has the older HW and it still beat the newest devices from the competitors, that says a lot.

Thanks Techmo. I also wonder if the cpu governer in the kernel does have a significant effect... This year the phones have been underwhelming. Whether budget or flagship. I do like Sony but sadly their auto mode is very, very far behind the competition at this price. They should have let the 1v be for the pros and make the 5v to compete with S24. To do that they should have had computational photography. I think the upcoming 1vi, 5vi and 10vi might be the last Sony phones we see. They must 40% sales last year. I have the 10iii and the cameras are good in sunlight but otherwise very poor. I've decided to go for iPhone because I just want cameras that are good, os support, hardware support and accessories. Apple has all that and best CPU. And where I live the S24 is €750 and the iPhone 14 is €739 and iPhone 13 is €619. No S23 on sale here. So it looks like iPhone 13 wins

Using a 2018 Sony Experia XZ2compact now. Was looking for a new phone but unfortunately Sony didn't pass my needs. Very unfortunate they dropped the 3th lens. Really was looking for a "compact" with better cameras. They also dropped the indicator light and the rear fingerprint sensor and pretty sure with tpu case the side sensor will be hard to use. Besides that it's big. Now mine is 5" screen. Compared today maybe 5.5 to get the same outer dimensions. Wish they still make smaller phones that don't pinch in my leg/hip while sitting. Best option was the S24 but also find out you are better of with the Snapdragon. So ordered it online in HK now and hope for the best. At least it surpasses the warranty period without problems. Sending it back probably isn't beneficial. To sony. Make 5.5 version. With indicator light on the front. Better cameras and software. At least 3x optical zoom. 2 or 3 cameras. 3.5mm jack not necessary for me as long it's supported by USB-C Keep the micro SD card. And longer security updates. Not necessarily new androids because that makes old phones worse. Liked my XZ2compact but it time to move on now. Battery life still Oke with all apps. Getting laggy because the apps are getting to big. Even after reset and installing the same it's not always great. Camera outdated. 19MP. Bad a darker scenes. Front cam not great. Also difficulties with low light. Form factor great. Fingerprint (rear) sensor great. Screenshot option on power menu button only great. Manual options camera nice. Notification led (color modes) perfect. Listen to your customers or your last marketshare will be lost too.

Mo I have a Request to you. I have recently bought galaxy s24 ultra and I am happy with it. However the issue of the fingerprint sensor not working properly with a screen protector was weird. Anyways I can live with that still by testing different tempered screens, one still stick. BUT I HAVE NOTICED A BIGGER POTENTIAL ISSUE. S24 ultra when check in About phone - Status information - SIM card Status and check the SIGNAL STRENGTH , it's shows like -90dbm to even -120dbm. Normal signal strength received should remain between -40dbm to -85dbm. This is happening on both SIMS from different carriers. I belive your s24 will show the same Low Signal Strength. I think with such low signal Strength this phone will struggle in Single tower or hilly terrains. I had similar issues with my previous midrange samsung phone where signal strength was bad. I wonder if this is a common samsung issue which nobody is addressing. Can you Please make a video on this signal strength issue only and tell us your observations and possible solutions to this issue !??! It will be great if you come up with proper information about it. Thank you

Hi I checked it before, the signal strength is one of the best I've had, also the internet speed is more than S24 for some reasons. For temper glass try to find higher end ones or use the official film from Samsung, also increase the touch sensitivity of the phone.

It is not surprising that the two Samsung-fabbed phones performed the worst. Despite Samsung-affiliated fans claiming it is now great, the fact is that it needs to be better, though obviously not the dumpster-diving mess the Exynos 2200 was. Anyone buying an Exynos should understand it has several negatives, and unless they are okay with those, it is best to give it a pass. These include a poor modem, poor thermals, and horrible efficiency, especially on more demanding tasks. Unfortunately, the SD S24 is now available in Europe, so anyone wanting a solid flagship compact phone should cross the S24 E2400 off the very shortlist. Sony has always been efficient, so no shock, and thankfully, they went with a non-Samsung-made chip.

Video calling is very heavy. The phone is capturing a video and simultaneously should process it frame by frame, sending it over. It should also use sophisticated algorithms to encode it so the other side get the video. For example if the object is stationary it should not send as much info. Then it should upload this and also download the other end which in this case is 3 other incoming videos.... Now add that to being on the 5G connection 😂
@flowqi212
@flowqi212 Ай бұрын
@techmo2020 very true, but you showed that even on Wifi it was burning battery very fast. I don't really see why the Exynos should be worse than the Snapdragon Gen 2 🤔. I mean video encoding and multiple streams can be tricky, but it basically is a solved problem with very efficient codecs -_-. My S10e could do it with a fraction of the performance... 😅

@techmo2020 if you ever are in the mood and have time, maybe you could try the Google Meet test with Teams or WhatsApp instead? Also, what I'd be really curious about is how the phone compares in "light" mode (in German its Gerätewartung - Leistungsprofil). This limits the chip to around S23 performance (rough estimation) to keep it cool and save battery.

The S24 with Exynos is a Scam. I mean its more expensive than the Pixel 8 (Google is using also Exynos) and performs only in Benchmarks better. Drains the small Battery nearly simmilar. Put in perspective the S24 costs nearly the same in both configurations and is much more than the Pixel 8. Always consider ur usage. The hard tests in youtube videos never represent real world usage.

It depends on your usage of the phone. S24 has an adaptive Display, hence if your tasks consists of low power consumption ones, which I assume it is since u get 6-7 hours of SOT, then S24 will last longer. Low consumption tasks are web browsing, KZbin, etc. You can check the chart at the end that shows Pixel is less efficient, but since it has 22 percent larger capacity, it kinda offset it.
