Galaxy S24+ vs. S23 | Exynos Hotter Than Snapdragon?

In my opinion it should have been S23 vs S24 or S23+ vs S24+ since they are kinda different categories and pretty far on specs from each other, but either way it was a great review on both and it shows us Exynos is alright this year, in between Snapdragon 8 gen 2 and gen 3. (Tho I don't know what happened on the camera, the pictures you took with S24+ looked horrible compared to S23.. Hopefully it's something that can be fixed with an update, if not I suggest everyone in Europe to go for S23+ or wait for S25+ and hope they'll put a Snapdragon again, if we boost their sales while on Exynos they'll never change that chipset and even tho it isn't as bad as before it's still unfair that USA, Canda and China get a superior cpu for the same price we pay for an inferior one.)

Nope if this test was done one s23+ instead it would have won because of better cooling and Exynos 2400 on s24 base is not only less powerfull but also has a stability score of 43%

I think the comparison is fair. For anyone that owns an S23, upgrading to s24 is pointless unless you like the AI features. So you may be curious about upgrading to the s24 plus instead.

Is important to note that is not always the fault of the SoC, sometimes the app makers don't optimize their apps for the Exynos.

Consumers won't analyze if the application/game is optimized for Exynos or not. If it makes phone to get warmer, then it also mean that battery runs in higher temperature, and this can lead to faster battery degradation.

uhh I have beef with this comparison because it`s S24+ and not S24 Also, you can make it so Exynos temperature matches the one of Snapdragon Samsung has an app called Thermal Guardian which makes you choose to make the phone run a few degrees hotter or cooler than the default preset.

Honestly I didn't find any issue with the phone except from 3X zoom. These CPU comparisons are a bit arbitrary at the end of the day, because in real life you don't push the CPU to the extend to throttle.

Snapdragon 8 gen 3 will be better, but Exynos will perform quite well too. Its power is in between Snapdragon 8 gen 2 and gen 3 which is alright, but still unfair given the fact that the rest of the world pays the same as US while they get a better chipset. The thing is, in a few years Exynos may fall a bit behind while Snapdragon will still keep up. I suggest you get S23 Plus if you wanna save some money or wait for S25 Plus if it's not something urgent you absolutely need right now. Either way, any Samsung will keep you happy for a few years 👍🏻

When s23 hits 44 celsius drops the frame rate to 48 the s24 exynos version does not do that. I think if s24 ultra hits 44 celsius will drop the frame rate to 48 cuz its snapdragon version

Sounds to me like the thermal threshold is set lower on the Snapdragon than on the Exynos. This is something Thermal Guadian can solve.

How hot does the s24 get? I just got an s23fe and that thing gets as hot as the sun playing games or even just doing video calls etc, but I did some searching and saw it was because of the snapdragon 8 gen 1 chip. I'm getting an s24 tomorrow for 5$ more a month witht the snapdragon 8 gen 3, I'd imagine it shouldn't run nearly as hot as the problematic 8 gen 1?

@techmo2020 on review now having it, the s24 doesn't get hot at all, maybe a bit warm with long gaming, or a bit hot with graphic intense stuff, but the s23fe got insane hot so easy. Literally just playing a game like archero or zombie Gunship Survival for 5 minutes would be at 40°c + , the snapdragon 8 gen1 chip is a furnace and a soon as that hear started, which wasnt very long, the battery drained like a sink, 25% in no time. Id be lucky to get 50% in a hour of zombie Gunship Survival, The Snapdragon 8 gen 3 runs cool as a cucumber. Very happy I decided to return it with my CPPs 30 day satisfaction guarantee and got the s24 for 5$ more a month, and even having a 4000mha battery opposed to the 4500mha it lasts. With normal use in getting like 6-7% an hour, with mid range games like 9-10%/hr. Very impressed with it.

I was a bit curios myself, to see if S24+ with Exynos has better thermals. S24+ is larger, so it should not run as hot as the smaller device. In other words, S24+ has an advantage over S23/S24 and if Exynos does not perform as good even on this device, it means it is inferior to last Gen of snapdragon :) I will do a S23 to S24 when I get the S24 base model soon.

No it doesn't. It has a higher thermal threshold. It peaks at 46c while Samsung limits the Snapdragon to 44c. If it was terrible, it would perform like Exynos of the past, get extremely slow and drain the battery very fast every time it gets warm. It didn't do either.

Any verdict on Exynos right now is very tough & this is becoming a headache for me to decide between S23/24 as I need to buy this week. Also the fact that US/China they have used SD Gen3 in all models + Ultra with SD 3 all over & not Exynos & rest of the world gets Exynos in base models, just show the strategy of Samsung on cost cutting & how they treat other countries as their testing ground, hope I'm wrong & Exynos do good but always a "?"
