I know this video is 3 years old now but about a year ago my wife's S7s battery got punched and I had to get to new S9s but she had over 1k pictures of our young kids and stuff on her S7 With this video I was able to pull her mother board and put it in to my old S7 and get everything off of her mother board. So thank you so much for doing what you do!

I fix phones in a repair shop and know about the difficulty of safely removing the OLED screen without damaging it. It isn't impossible but it requires more consistent heat than a typical heat gun can offer and avoiding using metal tools near the corner like that. OLEDs are safe with temperatures of up to 100-105 Celsius on a heat plate or a heat gun with temperature controls. I like to start from the top and work my way to the bottom with business cards, leaving the soft key lights cables for last because they become visible. It's certainly harder with the Edge screens but not impossible either, just requires more patience and a delicate touch. Also, for removing the back glass, you can avoid scraping the paint like that by lifting the glass a bit more and then using either a guitar pick or card to loosen the adhesive. You can get away with it on white phones with some white-out to cover up but better to not scrape it at all!
@schantzee5733

+enos218 I typically replace the oled/digitizer assembly, not just the glass. Assuming you have the expensive machinery and high skill required to perform a glass only repair, it seems separating and cleaning the oled may be easier than usual but I can't be sure how they are attached based on this video. This isn't a phone that I would recommend a DIY repair on with the exception of maybe replacing the back glass, cameras, or rear camera lens. Anything requiring screen removal you should take to a repair shop or honestly have insurance on it.

@ 2:25 the answer is a hot yes. I think Samsung has been aware of this problem for awhile & is just happily sending you in to their techs to take apart & charge you for their mistake. This phone also has major screen flickering & black screen issues. Won't be touching another Samsung again.

I'm actually planning on doing this for my s7 because the battery drains SO FUCKING FAST. Also, I enjoying fixing things by myself, it's fun for me personally. I've been taking shit apart for ages so I feel pretty good that I won't fuck it up. I'll back my phone up before just in case. And in terms of water resistance, I'll just have to treat my phone like an old fashioned cell phone till the s9 comes out. Not a problem.

Ben O'Sullivan My girlfriend's best friend took my girlfriend's s7 and dropped it and the internal screen broke. Now my girlfriend's mother tries to convince my girlfriend that it's not worth the money to replace the screen and wants to buy my girlfriend a new phone, the Redmi 5. The Redmi costs 200 € while the screen costs 170€. Am I the only one that finds thus stupid? I wanted to ask for your opinion because you said you work at a repair place.

Ben O'Sullivan But to change from the s7 to the Redmi 5? Even after the repair I believe it will be a downgrade
@Flow_Moonlight
@Flow_Moonlight 6 жыл бұрын
That's a huge downgrade in performance, camera, screen, call quality, LTE speeds and many samsung based features such as samsung pay and secure folder. Its better to just fix the screen. There's no new $200 smartphone that can outperform an old galaxy s7 no matter the test even if you step up to a new $300 budget smartphone, you'd still loose out on many things.

I successfully removed the LCD without damaging it. It's definitely feasible. Then I successfully removed the broken glass, using a hot plate and molybdenum wire. Then cleaned all the old loca off the screen. Screen was still working fine. Applied new loca and glass panel, no problems. But then I went to install the refurbished LCD back into the frame, and that's when it cracked! Alignment seemed good, so I dunno know what went wrong, but the LCD is so thin. I won't be doing glass only replacement on the S7, too hard. :-/

Seems about $150 these days. But I just got a whole S7 for about $175. However, I never realized the prices of AMOLED screen replacement. I was wondering why the iPhones screens were so cheap - LCD. The iPhone X screen very expensive now though being AMOLED. The downside of used phone is I have to replace my battery it is estimated to only 2100mAh capacity and it shows by how fast it drains. that's why I am watching this video.

Zack should I be concerned with the processor melting the plastic in your last video? reconsidering the phone ever since.

+nate m It is probably fine... It does get really hot... But Its too soon to make any assumptions about longevity.

JerryRigEverything could it have been some metalic tape reside? Or was it legit melted.

nate m Just discolored. Not residue... It'll be interesting to see how the phones hold up with heavy use and time.

Yes, they do have overheating issues. Mine is one year old but it has overheated for a few months now, even turning off randomly and getting into bootloops.

Jerry I think you're wrong. Yes, Galaxy S7 does have LOCA glue betwen glass and LCD. You never come to this part because you stick card between polarizer and LCD not glass and polarizer, It is a very thin layer of LOCA glue between glass and polarizer. Watch other videos.

I wonder how much of that discoloration is from your heat gun? Especially since you said it was "too hot to touch" at one point.
@JerryRigEverything

Understandable. But the discoloration is in the exact shape of the processor.

Hi jerry, I have a hot plate for removing lcds from the glass. Could I use the hot plate to soften the adhesive on the back and front? Or would that be too risky
