I don't hate apple, I just strongly don't like them mainly because of these two words, "Sold" and "Separately"
@Lilyium6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, if you're not an artist and would like to use the iPad as a standalone, why would you want to pay the price of the pen included? Apple would just charge more, it's not like the pen is made of free air. Much better to have them sold separately. Everyone's happy at the end of the day, besides those who can't afford another $99 on top of their half a grand ipad of course.

I just bought one in June 2020. I love it, gonna be using it for a long time. I feel like it's a great choice if you don't want to spend a lot on the Tab S6 but also want the Dex mode which is missing in Tab S6 Lite. Also worth it if you don't want to go the Apple iPad route. You can find it second hand for a very good price. Got it for 270 pounds in mint condition, ordered a third party keyboard and some spare pen tips, and all that totals to about 300 pounds for a Dex enabled productivity machine AND drawing device.

I don't hate Apple (heck, my first smart phone was an iPhone 4, and I still use my 10+ year old iPod Classic), I just dislike many of their design and business decisions, and here are a few examples. 1. How did it take them nearly 12 YEARS to realise "Hey, maybe proprietary ports aren't the best idea?" 2. "Lets remove the headphone jack, nobody uses that anyway, and if they do they can just buy one of our proprietary adaptors!" on a device that has its origins in a portable music player 3. *Accessories sold separately 4. "Why would you ever need to have access to the file system?" 5. "You're only allowed to install apps we approve of" 6. "Nobody needs expandable storage. If they need more storage, they should have thought of that beforehand and paid a premium for the extra gigs" 7. "People like arranging all their icons in a grid starting from the top left of the screen, right? Why would we ever change that?" Yes I know that most, if not all of these points are ones that other people have also decried for years, and some of them may seem petty to some, but there's good reason so many people complain about these things - they are fundamental things that frustrate a lot of people.

Hi Brad what do you think about the new aspect ratio? After years of using the 16:9 tf810c Windows tablet I'm on the verge of making a switch to either this or the S3. But after having tried an iPad I have to admit I feel much more comfortable using 4:3 in a tablet for drawing, it just feels less cramped. That's the main reason I never used mine in portrait mode. It's a pity because apart from that the S4 has improved in all the other things I thought could be improved in the S3: battery life, better screen to body ratio and resolution.

I used to own a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 inch with a S-pen & Sketchbook was my favourite app to draw in but last year after getting an iPad Pro, Procreate took the number 1 spot for me. Autodesk attracted new users by making the pro features free however they need to bring the desktop features such as perspective tools, ability to import and export brushes & more to tablets as apps like Procreate already have this. Also I am not a fan of the fill tool (may just be me) I did two of my entries for your August Finished Art Challenge in Sketchbook pro on my iPad Pro & I want to do more in it but Procreate & Affinity Photo/ Designer has my attention more than sketchbook does. Many say "iPad Pro" and bla, but no thanks. They are so overpriced like nothing else on this world. I want to use the tablet for drawing, but I am not a pro or anything. I just want to practise only, without having to sit hours and hours in front of the pc. I also want to do other things like picture editing and reading eBooks (PDFs). I don't pretend the world. The only demand I have is the pen calibration/sensitivity with the screen. I tried so many products in the store, like surface pro, lenovo, apple, and samsung. But the only one I REALLY liked was lenovo yoga and samsung tab4 +3. The pen worked so good, it draw where I wanted/were I put the pen. By the surface pro, when I pont the pen on a place, it draws next to the point, and not ON the point. Don't know if I am making any sense, my english is getting worse, sorry. Don't know if it was because it wasn't correctly adjusted in the setting, but it was definetly a nightmare. The price is also too high, and lenovo yoga, isn'T good because of the display cable break (?). I choosed this one, but wasn't sure because of the price which is 399€ here now. I still think the iPad Pro still wins. I have zero apple products. I use a Note 8 and a Windows 8 laptop. If I were to get a tablet, it'll be the iPad Pro 11 inches. Mainly due to the more responsiveness of the pen and the more minimalistic design, and most importantly that 120 Hz display. I wish Samsung could offer a competitive tablet to that iPad Pro. A lot of artists have taken a liking to procreate and I can see why. The drawing experience is more streamlined. Hand and finger gestures have made that app much easier to use. I am wondering if I used this pen with my 2014 note, if it would be an improvement on 's pen with the note? Or would it be the same just bigger to hold? Is pressure sensitivity in pen or tablet?
@evtonic35 жыл бұрын
I tried to replicate the hand grip you have and it is soo hard to hold a pen like that!!!! WOW!

Brad, I see you have the same issue I do on Medibang while using my older S3. The palm rejection has an issue where it keeps zooming the image waaaaaay the heck out. I know it’s not a hardware issue so it’s fair to not bring it up but considering that android users need all the apps they can get its a noticeable dent in the arsenal of tools available. Otherwise it’s a sweet machine that makes for a much better consumption device for side-loaded content than my, relatively limited, new iPad Pro.

Hi Brad, I enjoy your youtube channel. Recently purchased a Samsung galaxy S4. I want to start to use the device to draw on, can you recommend a screen protector and drawing glove? Thank you. Jean

@Brad Colbow I got an IPad Pro 12[1st gen] but really wanted an Android tablet for the external storage and sharing with my note8. Should I go for the S4 or stay with the iPad?

I don't know if you figured this out since you made the video but on medibang which I think you're using if you click the correction button on the top left it helps take away the shakiness created on your lines

Thanks for this review Brad. I asked a question in the iPad video you did some months ago. I think you are not with Adobe since you dont talk about it on the iPad and also not on this Android device. So i need to look on youtube for more information about that! :D

Really enjoying your reviews, especially as I'm currently shopping for a new tablet with drawing capability, but it would be helpful if you'd also address price points and relative value for these slates. S4 may be some nice hardware but $700 for an Android tablet? Is it really worth it? Compared to S3 or even Tab A?
@DE1CRAFTS6 жыл бұрын
i have the tab A version its decent but i would get the s3 instead which is probably just an hundred or so more

Any chance you have used any tablets for cad apps or 3d drawing preferably with a way to determine scale, ie. Grid background, or a way to set a scale?
@SuperSheelaSuperShow5 жыл бұрын
For me it's a price issue. The fact that the apple pen is so expensive and sold separately on top of the price already being so high, and the fact that this has gone down by 100 bucks since it was released means that this is a lot more attractive to me, especially as something like a digital sketchbook that I can carry sketches over to my computer with.

Great review. If it weren't below 12 inches, I might consider it. I hope you review the Dell Inspiron Chromebook 14 since it has Wacom EMR and Android support.

One of the features of Sketchbook is that you can remove all but one UI element from the screen so you have a nice, clean "sheet of paper".

@@highzenburger1829 you can actually download any app in Windows, it's just that the surface go comes with win 10s, you can leave the windows 10s mode and use windows 10 and download anything you want ("at your own risk") just like a normal window computer :) and actually I think he already did a video about the surface... Look it up on his site

you might have it already now, but low end windows tablets are TRASH you need to pay at least £500 for a good one and £700 for a good surface, basically don't ever get a low end windows!
