You're the first reviewer to mention pressure levels and how it impacts brush workflow. Since I'm used to Huion 22 plus on my pc with 8k pressure levels I'm afraid I'll be annoyed by the S pen 4k. Would really like you to try XP Pen magic drawing pad (16k pressure levels) since your brush workflow is the most similar to mine I could find for reviewers.
@jingmatinong7 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for watching. Hopefully I can make a review of it soon!
@PedroRodrigues-fh1ku6 ай бұрын
pressure level is not really what affects that. I also think this is one of the few reviewers that talks about that, it's called IAF (initial activation force), it's what most impacts the feel of the pen when you are drawing, it's the force you need to apply on the screen for it to detect the first level of pressure of the pen (so pressure levels are useless if the IAF is not calibrated well) 4k is more than enough, tablet companies keep adding more and more pressure levels and marketing it as the game changing feature but it's just buzzwords. The IAF is much more important. You can test if a pen has a good IAF by holding the pencil by the top end, place the tip on the screen and let the pen's own weight do the drawing by sliding it over the screen, if it doesn't leave a mark it's not well calibrated and you will have a hard time doing gesture and lighter sketching, and it will also affect tilt since when you tilt the pen you're barely applying any force to it. sorry for the long reply, I hope you find a good tablet for you.

@jingmatinong8 ай бұрын
It's the same case for me, colors are more saturated. For example, when I use the S9's camera to take reference photos for painting, I usually just adjust the colors on my Mac or iPad later.

@jingmatinong7 ай бұрын
@@eyeghelemebright6938 Display modes are about how "colors are displayed" on screen. Changing the Display modes is not the same as Color Calibration. Color calibration means colors are matched consistently whether in file export or in colored print outputs, which is important in professional work.

What color mode for the display is the best for drawing, vivid or natural? I find the natural one being very dull and even with a sort of warm tint to it, so I'd appreciate your opinion on this!
@jingmatinong7 ай бұрын
I go for Natural mode over Vivid because Vivid overdoes the colors. Choosing Natural is better in terms of color accuracy in terms of file export. If I export an artwork image using Vivid mode, the image file will look dull compared to the tablet screen's vivid mode especially if it gets printed or viewed on another device.

I'm planning on picking up drawing again even if the last time I draw was 2011 and I'm thinking of the S9. I can barely use Apple products, my sister has an ipad pro gen 4 (maybe) and iphone 13 pro max and iphone pro 14 5G(again maybe, dont really know the models, just matching the prices to guess the type). I could never get into iOS. I've been looking at reviews and it seems like S9 is a good product to work (and relearn drawing) with since I can't exactly drag my PC around. Addition : Nothing, I think, about iOS or MacOS is intuitive. That has been my problem with Apple (that and how overpriced it is despite offering pretty much the same functionality and how closed the ecosystem is).

Hello! thank you for the review for this tab but i still have several questions for the performance 1. While you using CSP, do you feel any lags during drawing? also what is the highest setting for the canvas that you ever used before its getting laggy. (Also I heard Ipad maximum DPI is 300, I wonder if samsung is limiting its DPI as well) 2. I asked someone who used samsung s9 fe said that he used around 3k canvas with 300 DPI and able to reach 20 layers with no lags (without using any effects). Considering s9 fe and s9 chipset is different and the comparison during gaming is pretty noticeable, I wonder how many layers that you can use before you getting notification that the memory is increasing and how much of a difference between the layers
@jingmatinongАй бұрын
I typically use 10 layers max while I’m working for better layer management but I think the Tab S9 could handle 20 layers depending on the canvas resolution. The exact resolution at which lag starts can vary based on the complexity of the artwork and the number of layers. You can probably expect smooth performance up to 6000 x 4000 pixels with moderate to high layer counts.

I am heavy handed and I do a lot of detail lineart work. One thing to be careful about: I never used a paper like screen cover, they are harder on the nib. Since the nib is a soft material, I don't need that extra grip from paper like covers. Overall I am so happy with the performance that I am buying the S9+ today. Perhaps, if it needed that much changing for some people, their pen might've been faulty from the start?

The Samsung aspect ratio and dimensions is not the best for art too narrow wide screen better for basic task, gaming and watching videos/movies plus less black boarder around videos. iPad is more square dimensions is better for artists/illustrators but gaming and videos have more black boarder so sometimes cuts the content off. If your not an artist Samsung is better and for the price. Samsung wide screen and iPad more square so more space on the top and bottom so better especially for using apps with tools on the sides and in portrait mode.

The Tab S9 Plus is wider than the iPad Pro 11", and the Tab S9 Ultra is wider than the iPad Pro 13" 🤷🏽♂️

Awesome review. I agree though that the iPad's interface is much more superior.

@@jingmatinong lol. I know right. But thank you for this review though. I appreciate that it's coming from an artist's perspective. I initially wanted to get this tab for journaling and digital art but seeing that the pen sensitivity is not standard across apps like CSP and infinite painter is a bummer :(

The s-pen has tremendous potential and if it gets developed further it could be a game-changer.

But I like Apple pencil’s firm nib than Samsung’s soft stylus point.

@@_StarlightRose_ I’m a trying-hard wannabe artist who can’t seem to get sketches right. For now, any stylus or pen would do. I didn’t know Samsung has pen variants. Apple has no pencil crafted only for artists.

If you're talking about the rubber tips you get from samsung s pen I 100% agree that's more so for writing than getting quick smooth lines which I just ordered plastic nibs from aliexpress it works really well

@brushimpact I don't have this particular tablet but I had an issue with Samsung customer service before, and I was not impressed, to say the least. Still, they make a damn good hardware, and the price for their gadgets are going down rather quickly opposing to Apple's.

Samsung will support tabs for 3 to 4 years, iPads work for 8 to 10 years. Samsung products are untested, mostly faulty and the after sales service is a joke. It can’t connect to a Mac as an external display and you miss out on iPad only apps. So when all these problems go away, Samsung can start dreaming about your title.
