It kills me every time. Especially when I think about what it means. My interpretation at least. An imaginary friend is someone we create to be our ideal friend. Someone who likes what we like, is supportive and always has your back. At the end, Bing Bong realized that by insisting that he be real for Riley and for her to remember him, he was holding her back. Both literally and figuratively. So he did his job as her imaginary friend and sacrificed himself for her. And his being forgotten doesn't mean that Riley no longer remembers him, I believe. It means that when she does think about him, he will no longer feel like he was ever real. That's the loss of innocence and growing up. It makes that scene even more sad for me.

This is probably one of the most creative movies Pixar has made in my opinion. Especially the moral behind it. Never try to shadow your inner conflicts and uncomfortable feelings with happiness, always embrace those moments of sorrow and doubt with others and with yourself. Because you just won’t be hurting others if you don’t, you would be hurting yourself the most. You’ll be hurting the real you that YOU are meant to be. Hiding your true inner definition. Never try to bottle those emotions up. Always be true to yourself and true to all of your emotions and accept them for what they can do to benefit your life.
@BeeKee4047 ай бұрын
Also after rewatching it several times, I noticed some really creative details like when Anger beats up Fear when he's trying to stop him or calm him down, it showcases our anger overpowering our fear of doing the wrong thing and our anger takes over our actions and when Joy tries to stop Sadness or keep her away, it's our own inner joy trying to keep the sadness out and when they get sucked out of HQ, it showcases how our joy and sadness try to take control but it get so intense, they both just kinda drain out of us and has to find their way back which causes depression.
@samuelvincent5577 ай бұрын
@@BeeKee404 Good insights. One of my favorites is when Joy and Sadness are outside the window, and Disgust antagonizes Anger into a meltdown. It felt like that was Riley realizing how impotent and useless her anger at the situation was, and she used her anger to cause a literal and figurative emotional breakthrough enabling her to be able to feel happy and sad again. ANother was watching Sadness. She was depressed and anxious until the very end. Her job, like the others, was to regulate and protect Riley's emotions. And for all her existence, everyone was shunning and pushing her away from the control panel. She was melting down because Riley was being forced to be happy when she, legitimately, should have been sad. And she could feel that Riley was emotionally unbalanced and it was effecting her. When she took control of the panel and helped Riley she was smiling because for the first time, she was being allowed to actually help.

It's easy to assume that Sadness creates Riley's sad situations, but it's really the opposite. Sadness's job is to drive during Riley's sad situations. Her job is to navigate loss and grief. That's why Sadness is in charge in mom's head. And it's why Anger is in charge in Dad's. Mom navigates the family through grief and loss while Dad navigates the family through danger and disorder. Sadness doesn't make Riley sad. Sadness navigates Riley through sad times.

Joy at any cost turns into toxic positivity. And happy memories turning sad made me think of melancholy. Like a happy moment with a friend who isn't your friend anymore, or baking cookies with grandma that passed away. The loss leaves those happy times tinged with sadness. And it's kind of unavoidable, isn't it? Sadness feeling pull to touch the core memories made perfect sense. Riley is experiencing loss of her team and friends, tension in the family, etc. And even happy momory from a drive cannot be all happy because of the reason they were taking that trip in the first place...

3:40 "Why would honesty be happy" well it probably wasn't based in that moment that we saw - there was probably a positive memory (or as you see by the end, an *eventually* positive memory, after a different emotion had passed, like sadness leading to happiness in the hockey team memory) that was really important to her, so now she is inclined to be honest. That doesn't always mean she's feeling happy every time she's honest, that just means the core memory that sparked that piece of herself was happy.

It’s easy to see a child’s mind definitely having a single emotion trying to control it like joy with Riley. But as we grow up and mature we realize that all of our emotions are equal and all needed. The lesson we learn by the end of the movie. Notice how for Riley’s mom and dad all the emotions have a chair for the console? I don’t think one specific emotion is in charge. More they’re all just more mature they can take on a different role. Like sadness for mom is growing more to empathy. While anger for the dad grew to be a more protective emotion.
