I think it’s important to remember that Ian wasn’t just a gateway for Mickey to be open with his sexuality. Ian loved Mickey despite his poverty, family and circumstances. He saw the good in him, underneath the profanity, the filth and the violence. I don’t think Mickey had experienced that in his life, or ever considered himself to be worthy of it.
