If I’m moving an established mixed reef tank an hr away do I have to remove the sand and go bare bottom and then add the sand back over time if I don’t wanna stick to bare bottom?? I’m getting mixed info here I’ve done it multiple times myself without removing the sand and I don’t remember anything besides like an algae bloom or something similar but I’m being repeatedly told if I don’t remove the sand then when I set it back up I’ll have a crash and lose my more sensitive corals I’m the process and that’s the last thing I wanna do.. was told that or I would have to move the tank with 3-4in of water left in it and don’t see that being possible 3 people moving a 120 with 2-4” sand bed and water plus it’s a glass aquarium sku da like it’d be waaaay too heavy
@GalleryAquaticaTV2 жыл бұрын
I think the worst thing you can do is to ditch the sand during a tank relocation. I always keep it, as the beneficial bacteria you’ll keep is a huge advantage to the water chemistry in the days following the move. The problem people have when they keep the sand is the detritus in the sand can pollute the water after it’s removed and put back in, however this is easily fixed by rinsing the sand in seawater (preferably from the tank). I ALWAYS keep the sand. Cam
@born2beashooterjosh3972 жыл бұрын
@@GalleryAquaticaTV so I’m supposed to use my salt to mix up a bunch of water to rinse the sand?? It’s a 3yr old tank so the rock is very mature it has a sump a gfo reactor etc plus I have some bottled bacteria to help make up for it I jus don’t see any way to avoid the sand releasing stuff from the anaerobic areas that seems to be what causes most post move tank crashes there’s no way to stop it if it starts but I’m also thinking maybe if I put some purigen in the sump it would absorb all the toxins that’s the only thing I know of that can absorb toxic chemicals released by corals and dying matter etc etc but idk if it would be sufficient enough, idk what to do one group says worst thing u can do is try to keep the sand after it’s been disturbed from a move and the other group says the worst thing u can do is go bare bottom when u set it back up I jus don’t see how goin bare bottom is gonna cause a crash as long as I manage the nutrients being put in to the system I can cut way back to give the bacteria time to catch up or jus add the turbo start 900 I ordered jus dump it in their I think it would be fine I mean if like to keep the sand but I don’t wanna do it at the cost of loss of life I was also thinking that I could clean it like u describe and slowly introduce it back in to the tank a cup or to at a time
