Love it! I had rosy red minnows (feeder fish) in mine last year. This year I put zebra danios in there and they started breeding like crazy. Yikes! I think you could put a couple of small breed gold fish in there.

Since the tank is blue inside, I would put some yellow-ish or orange-ish koi in there (small ones).

I recently built a turtle pond for someone. They were asking about a tank and I was like, nah. This is cheaper. We got a stock pond and a square hang on rail flower box for a sump. More work, but cheaper and much more of what they actually wanted

@@ruthmeow4262 I highly reccomend following Joey from King of DIYs model for a sump. It's a great filter and can add more water into the system. A couple more gallons never hurt.

I would use Pond Amor/Pond Shield too but if you want a cheaper alternative, use a cheap pond liner. You can edge border to the liner at the lip with a vinyl hose or a used hose.

That's true, pond shield is pretty but it isn't exactly budget-friendly! It basically doubled the cost of the pond, heh

Love it! So awesome and beautiful! I used to buy the big black rubber (?) ones for my summer livebearer tanks. I live in SoCal and so it was easy for me to set them up as long as in shade. Added floating plants and as long as I stocked properly no filter was needed. Lots of algae so fry had additional food. I had plaited in one, ilyodon furcidens in another. In winter I brought them indoors. Oh yeah almost forgot that I purchased a couple of green 20 gallon plastic bins for Endlers. By early fall had lots of babies to sell on Aquabid. Wish I could remember more details but this was back in 2003-2005.

Second summer for my 2 ryukin goldfish tub pond on covered patio. I got the 50gal black tub from tractor supply. I wish I would of got the 100 gal. thought about the resin and sealer paint. Im in gulfcoast Tx so added heater for winter but the Ryukins like cooler water. I added a spillway waterfall and added some sponge filter media I can change out plus 2 sponge air filters. I have a fan blowing on it, temps been upper 90s /100's. Keeping lots of water movement to help water stay lower 80s and add water couple times a week for evaporation. Ive had challenges but I love it. I love your plants, the forget me knots on my list. I love your pond and I cang wait to see what fish you choose.

I have a small garden pond, and I've given up on fish. We're close to the woods and we attract large green frogs and even potentially bull frogs, so predation on anything smaller than a couple inches worth of fish is a near certainty. I could put a cage over it, but I'm not doing that.
@SimplyBetta
@SimplyBetta 2 жыл бұрын
Oooo, can see how that is a problem. bull frogs are no joke! I saw a comment of yours a while ago that I thing I forgot to reply to! It was about my fish cabinet being heated with heat tape on the backside of the cabinet, and how using a router to make some channels to put heat tape on the underside would be better. I agree! I actually considered it but man, I was intimidated by the idea so I chose the lazy route and put it on the backside. If I could go back in time I would do it right the first time and heat from the bottom!
@WhatIsMisophonia
@WhatIsMisophonia 2 жыл бұрын
@@SimplyBetta You don't have to router it in, I recall mentioning something about using light diffuser or something like that for the tank to set on, and it would be cut out for heating lines. The back might actually still be a better idea if we're talking about tall tanks vs. more block shaped, wide, or long tanks. Also, a think layer of gravel, sand, dirt, etc.; can have an insulation effect on the bottom because there's little water current movement though it unless you're doing UGF. My idea might be more efficient, but since you were heating the whole cabinet, your idea is probably more pragmatic.

Next year if you get a pond that is wider then tall you can go filterless and no air. My pond has been set up since beginning of May with no filter and air since it is a 35 gallon but wide and shallow. My sunset variatus platies already have some youth in the pond now so I'm guess around 10 fish 6 are adults. I have 3 bog plants, hornwort and salvinia in the pond to help with filtration and hiding spots for the babies. Since you are doing only one pond like me I'm going to guess, livebearers so maybe Endlers since they can handle termperature swings. I really wanted to do egg layers but I didn't want to move to a two ponds but after seeing how low maintenance this year's pond is I will probably set up 2 next year and do egg layers.

The pond looks awesome. And I think the epoxy that you used was perfect. Because whatever fish you put in will be visible. We will be able to see them. YEAH🎉. 👍😎 Did you move to Alaska? Hmmm in that case I’d say White Clouds. Seen Cory had some living under ice. 🖖

I'm from alaska! I'm not there anymore though, but that is home :) White clouds are a good guess, I do love them

Did your paint stay stuck? I have heard that the zinc plating can be difficult to get paint to bond too.

@@Steves_fish No my mama said it, not me. I’d have to look it up. I was thinking more along the lines of a fan tail guppy. But I guess female guppies look like the mosquito fish I’m thinking of. I’ll hitch a ride with you if you’re going back to Cali.

Hi Taylor! I have this same stock tub that I want to turn into a pond. It is brand new. Is it necessary to use pond primer/paint? As in, is the galvanized steel bad for the fish?

I'm in a industry where we use galv metal all the time. Just use white vinegar on the metal before painting. It's all we use before coating and it works great for adhesion
