Thanks for these. I am an addict in recovery, I will always be an addict and always be in recovery. I've had it under control for the past 6-7 years , before then it was a gradual process. Thankfully for that process start just before FOBTs appeared in UK bookmakers. Then I moved to Spain, there were no bookmakers around when I first moved here. I was not perfect up until the pandemic I was throwing money down fruit machines out of boredom, it left me short but never the way it did before. In between this time, I once made a visit back to the UK, I spent a day in a bookie, that day I was lucky I made a last minute come back, on my way out someone said to me, stay out I can tell you have it bad, it was like times of old and for me a wake up call. I have a story if you ever want to hear it. I will look for your contact.

Great to hear Darren's story. Recognised a lot of similarities with my own experiences especially when he talked about playing the FOBTs and then going home and playing online. Good to hear he's put gambling behind him and is now in a better place 👍

The horses and sports can be beaten. They have a big mathematical advantage, but it’s human nature to be greedy for more. Therefore you need to figure out what they want you to bet and do the opposite. But if it’s a game like roulette, you have no chance to win. No betting strategy will work. It won’t even dent the house advantage. You can’t predict an outcome from what has happened in the past. So unless you have some why to find imperfections in the wheel, you have no chance to win. Craps is the same. Unless you are good enough to gain partial control of the dice, you have no chance. Slots are impossible. You need to find a game that goes through cycles. At times those games will have positive expected value. Blackjack is the only game that can be beaten so long as the cards are dealt down sufficiently so that card counting can be effective. Also, the rules must be reasonably good. Don’t play 6-5 blackjack games and continuously shuffled games. Also don’t play games where you pay the casino a commission on every hand. Poker is also a good game to play. But you must be better than your opponents. I lived in Las Vegas for 2 years. I never played any game where the casino had a mathematical advantage over me. I never even touched a slot machine, never made a single bet on keno, Craps, or roulette. I played poker and blackjack only. I understand the math. Everything that happens in a casino is controlled by the math. When you play long enough, you will be right on the house percentage no matter how lucky or unlucky you may be. Losing is no fun for me. Winning is fun. I will only play a game that I will be winning 100% of the time after 10,000 bets. The standard deviation on 10,000 bets is 50. So you will be within +150 and -150 from average after 10,000 bets over 99% of the time. And you will be within +50 and -50 from average over 60% of the time. So if you five up just say 5.6% as you do in double zero roulette, you are losing $560 after 10,000 bets at $1 a spin. So you will definitely by between -$410 and -$710 all the time. So you are not even close to be even let alone winning!! As I said, if you bet on football, you find what appears to be a good deal and then bet the opposite side. If you are losing at football betting, your handicapping is wrong. Football games are not honest, so you need to figure out how the games are fixed and who they will fix the game for. Horses are the same. You bet on a horse that looks terrible.
