I think that people and specially streamers don't realize how wrong gambling is and how they influence people and the addiction it creates. And we are not talking about small streamers here, we are talking about streamers which already have more money then they need. Gambling kills people, it destroys families. I think it should be regulated just like it was done with smoking...

So what is the upside of gambling exactly? It's hardly a social thing, you'd be called out as a complete degenerate if you said 'I don't enjoy watching sports with friends unless I bet on it'. And whatever thrill you get from winning doesn't come close to outweighing the misery of losing. I'd frankly say that even tobacco has more upside than gambling does, just for the 'relaxing effect' or whatever, and that's a hilariously low bar to set. 95% of people betting will lose in the long run, and the 5% who win will have to wriggle their way through withdrawal disputes and TOSs, while juggling countless accounts to not get shut down by bookies. I was among those 5% for several years (mostly poker, some betting) and while my bank account was fine by the end of it, I certainly wouldn't consider myself a 'winner'. All I had to show for it was isolation and a 4 year unexplainable gap in my CV that will haunt my career for the rest of my life.

Gambling has no upside. Also I like your take on Poker. I played poker pretty seriously for several years, and its really only a game of skill for 1% of people. It requires complete devotion and years of obsession, and one bad beat can still ruin you.

One thing that needs to be discussed is that alot of the gambling advertising is being consumed by children or teens who have very little concept of the risk/reward evaluation of gambling or the addiction risk thereof. A lot of the more dubious gambling sites don't have very good age verification or have easily bypassed age verification. There are also plenty of places where the online gambling is unregulated or risky and the people who put real money into these sites have no guarantee on ever getting their winnings.
@Jul15227 Жыл бұрын
That is an issue across the board unfortunately, impossible to regulate perfectly. Alcohol, porn, drugs etc. I think this ultimately comes down to parental guidance when it comes to minors.

I also was at the frankfurt majors and those were definitely the best esports events I have been to. The arena was amazing, crowd was super hyped and the games were great. I vividly remember the final game in 2015, were kuro played techies and the whole stadium just going nuts the whole game (especially at the "ITS A TRAP" moment). Would be amazing to have a major at that location again.

The sick of gambling thing is not just in dota, I'm sick of hearing it on the radio, on the NHL, on the jerseys, on the streams it's all trash. People are always gonna gamble that's their decision but I don't want to see it, I don't want my kids to have it be normalized. Gambling takes money from the playerbase and skims off the top. I don't blame people for taking the money but it's gross to see how quickly the advertisements have saturated so many different entertainment industries

I'm generally pretty against gambling, but at least in Artours particular case I think its important to look back at xQc's deal earlier this year(?) where he's essentially a gambling addict being paid by his bookie to advertise their gambling products because the bookie knows a lot of the money they pay him will be paid back to them in lost bets just from him, not including however many viewers also fall into the hole When I think about it like this I look at most of the other deals and wonder how many of them are similar situations, Gambling being predatory by nature makes it easy for me to believe that xQc is not the only person offered a contract who has a gambling addiction

I'm not a fan of gambling, but it's better to legalize and regulate it than banning it and having it go underground. That being said, I really don't like the normalization of it and all the ads I see everywhere. I do think it's going to lead to more gambling addictions. But yeah, I guess it's important to always have disclaimers on the ads to try to get people to do it responsibly (like with many other addictive substances and activities). Not sure how much that really helps though...

I'm gonna be the extremist here and say, if Gambling sponsors existing is a requirement for Dota to continue as an esport, I rather see the competitive scene die than continue this. Been a long time player since the Bloodseeker release in Beta but this ultimately isnt just about Dota, its about the whole gaming landscape. NFTs in games are bad because ultimately its tied to real money, meaning that no matter what, it would attract players with the motive of making money. Gambling sponsors are bad because no matter how you put it, its essentially a scam; the house always wins. Same but less intrusive is Gacha and Lootboxes. I care about games more than I care about Dota. I've been a game dev for over 10 years. More and more, its increasingly harder to push against predatory monetization as a employee of a decently sized game company. There are still It pains me to see most of the big game companies move towards this trend. It makes an laughably large amount of money, that it makes making games purely for the purpose of entertainment, a "dumb" move if going in for purely profit. It really hurts since when I first decided to go this path, the thought process was generally "make a good game and the sales will follow". This is not the case anymore, at least mostly, with the very few exceptions like From Software and Larian still holding the line, purely out of pride of their work. It really fucking hurts.

There wouldn't be that many gambling sponsors that keep popping up if it wasnt massively successful at generation a LOT of money. And I just cannot believe that even a majority of that money is from people who have that much disposable income where it doesn't effect them negatively. Gabling and betting addictions are extremely real and dangerous and in sports as well as esports are exploited crazily.

Hey Synderen, can you please be more straightforward, rather based, and share your honest thoughts on RTZ's gambling streams? It seems like you're avoiding addressing the issue. I used to really like Arteezy, and I still think he is likeable. But to me I started caring less and less simply because his subpar performances and have liked other carry players way more. This was just the nail in the coffin. He is just not that relevant anymore, it's just he was always such a poster child. Can he win a TI? With the right team yeah sure he is still an S Tier Carry player. But unlikely, way too inconsistent, way too complacent. No way that guy is as scary as Pakasz, Yatoro, even Mickey.

Twitch now lets you co-stream on other platforms. For the longest time the second you signed as a partner/affiliate you were locked into an exclusivity contract with them. They changed this awhile ago, but made it so that you could stream on other sites, just not at the same time you were streaming on Twitch. As of a couple months ago they made it so you can stream to other sites at the same time as you are streaming on Twitch. For the pornstar, Eva Elfie, giving to the prizepool, from what I heard she offered the money to Team Spirit. Team Spirit then declined taking the money so she was trying to figure out what to do with it. Haven't heard any updates since. Keep the Fartality in the game the way it is but give it a chance of you shitting yourself instead leading to some debuff so you have some risk/reward to spamming it.

I think "gambling" for fun with little money or even more if you are rich is okay and no problem. Like betting on football games against your friends etc, that's what we did a lot, but there you won or lost a few bucks.. nothing you notice at the end of the month. What this kind of gambling is about is enabling people to spend huge amounts of money in very short time. Even if you lose only small amounts per game this is the true risk. Because the consequences feel not as severe and you will also win more often if playing more often. This is the basis for a gambling addiction and I personally think it's even worse then a drug addiction. At least you will ruin your life even quicker. And gaming is a huge influence on young people who are on risk even more. And by someone like RTZ they may be even more likely to be influenced. Every single life ruined is a tragedy
