Haha, love this. Anyone else grow up playing Starfleet Academy? How about the Sega Genesis TNG games? God I miss the 90s

I played 1 of the TNG Sega games in the 90's. Rented it multiple times to finish.

I dont know if I would call it a "game". Its more like an episode choose your own Star Trek, and you get to flick the butttons and levers on the way.

Couldn’t agree more. Played it once and I’ll probably never pick it up again. I grabbed it when it came out. Even read some of the prequel comics. $40 is way too much for this visual novel, lol. A lot of the controls and cut scenes had bugs and tearing. Sometimes it would just skip my choices altogether. The phaser controls and other activities can be quite janky. The positive standouts as you mentioned are the voice acting and the story. With a game like this some DLC every couple months to add more story would have made it a bit more appealing, but there’s just no replayability at all. It felt like computer games from the 90’s and early 00’s.

I'm finding these comments telling, since literally every other review I find on the "game" say it's "the best Star Trek game ever"...where is the disconnect between reviewers and actual gamers?

@@bestoftrekworstoftrek I’m guessing.. money? Haha. I’m wondering if they spent more on marketing than developers. Honestly it seems like every AAA gaming development company and some of the smaller ones are facing lack of enough employees and talent of said employees. Brands are underpaying and overworking their development teams to squeeze out as much profit as possible. Then end up laying off a ton of ppl afterwards. The frequency of quality games coming out has also slowed down quite a bit, so people are probably hungry for anything from their favorite series or shows at this point.

I’m definitely going to give it a try I have recently kind of fallen for the narrative genre with titles like Until Dawn and Detroit: Become Human.

I was very surprised they centered the holiday promotion around Riker. Maybe they were trying to drum up sales? I was aware of the original marketing (small as it may have been, but I was waiting to buy it on physical since it only came out digitally at first), and they only mentioned Spock with some other "Surprises" for Trek fans. Not sure if it would improve the overall experience...but there is also a prequel series of comics for the 'game.'

Those book had way more paths to go, and now I'm just realizing, I'm kind of disappointed there is no "premature ending" paths in this game, like are common in choose your own adventure books.

Yeah... I kind of regret buying this one. I keep trying to play it thinking, "I paid for it. I better finish it" but so much of the time, you watch the characters act out the scenes and I forget I'm supposed to be involved. Suddenly there's some controller action you're supposed to take but I completely forgot I'm even holding the controller.

I'm glad I bought it on sale, but it's really not worth more than a newly released blu-ray. Decent story, but it is hard to play as a game.

How did I not know that all the BTTF movies have video game versions? I've played the original at least once...

Don't know anything about BTTF 2, the 1st and 3rd games are garbage. The first stage in the 3rd one is famously nearly impossible. I remember renting it one weekend, and could never beat that stupid stage.

I would only recommend this game to Trek fans and those who love the Telltale games.

That's pretty much how i feel. As a serious Trek nerd, I'm glad I played it for the story, but as a gamer, it's something you have to commit to.
