You must have got a gimped copy of Elite Force on the PC, because the single-player is indeed in there. Also, and I'm not making this up, I laughed so hard with the Manu bit, I gave myself a charlie horse. This is agony! And you're a good boy Joe, the Constitution Refit IS the best ship. Its all sleek and sexy.

It's there on the Mac version too. There also released a patch that included Jeri Ryan doing Seven of Nine's lines, instead of the voice actress that is in the shipped version of the game. Sadly, the Mac version was only compatible with Mac OS9. There was no OSX patch, so getting it to run on a current machine is pretty difficult.

Yeah! I seem to remember a pretty okay Borg murder-simulator attached to Elite Force PC. I only barely recall the arena shooter, even though it was all-but-expected given its origin from the Quake 3 engine. It's just what you did from '99-'02 or so.

Wait what? You didn't find the single player campaign option in the main menu of Elite Force? You must have run the wrong desktop shortcut, if I remember correctly it creates 2, one for single player and one for multiplayer. It's one of the 10 best single player campaigns of 2000s PC shooters! It's a love letter to Star Trek fans, with the original cast and a better plot than most episodes of the show. They even made an expansion pack where all you do is explore the Voyager in its entirety. Joe you have to go back and play it.

You are correct. Even back then games were retarded and made you launch SP and MP separately. Like, what is so hard with having it selectable in game?
@GameSack
@GameSack 5 жыл бұрын
It does? That may have been it. That's kind of dumb though and hardly something I would expect. There are a lot of icons on that particular desktop so it makes sense that it would get lost. I'm too lazy to hook up the PC and boot it up again to check but so far your explanation sounds the most reasonable.
@Ghost_Of_SAS
@Ghost_Of_SAS 5 жыл бұрын
I checked the manual of the game and now I'm sure it's one of those games that had two shortcuts. I think it had something to do with the Quake 3 engine because Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Jedi Outcast/Academy and Call of Duty 1&2 did the same thing. Yeah, it's confusing.

i still don't like it. it's a different genre, it's not exploration epic + moral conundrum, it's political + espionage drama. the characters aren't as likeable either. sisqo can't really hold lead man in his own show imo. the addition of worf was an admission of the show that it needed some "star power" (as if worf was tom cruise or some huge draw, go figure...) im not going to act as if the actors weren't any good, odo was pretty good, so was garak and quark was great. but what was that plot with the ancients? it seemed more like a plot out of xena warrior princess or another fantasy. the whole ancients arc of sisqo is a waste of screen. theres only some good drama with the bajorans coming out of it but it's nonsense. the show is also political, the bajorans are obviously meant to represent israeli somehow? you can tell because their holy cube is basically the merkabah. even their names sound israeli, not only of the bajorans but other alien names like elim garak sound middle eastern? the kardashians are also meant to be german,so there's that. the bajorans are a small "resistance/enclaved" type civilization with an ancient proud history, attacked on all fronts by most. who value their sacred things most. it's just too obvious. finally, the departure of dax in season 6 was a stain on the show? and what was that lesbian kiss about, it's made out to be some powerful inclusion moment, but if dax was being harassed at that point, isn't it more logical to view it as the production just being gross
@basteagui
@basteagui Жыл бұрын
oh and what was that whole subplot about baseball about? or the one about cajun food? what random thing is that and it's not on one episode, sisqo's dad makes it, nog likes it, and jake sometimes takes over a restaurant that makes it. why? what about cajun food screams epic space adventure to you? also the addition of the defiant in season3 is admission from the show that you are wrong too, and that they needed to fly places and have spaceflight combat.

This episode was GREAT! It must have taken quite a bit of extra work to get the intro and closing just right, but the end result is spot on. My favorite Trek game is the one you closed with. The sit-down version of Strategic Operations Simulator is really, really fun. A local pizza place had one when I was a kid; I used the money I earned from my paper route to play it a couple of times a week. Sitting in that “captain’s chair” and hearing Spock welcome you aboard was almost worth the price of admission itself. I may have to give the TNG game on NES a shot now, after watching this. It looks interesting enough- I’m not sure why I avoided it.

This episode was awesome. Loved that intro. Was a bit surprised when you started talking about the PC version of Elite Force being an arena shooter only but had a campaign in the PS2 version. I remember there being a campaign (and a good one too!) on PC. Don't even remember the multiplayer portions.

For sheer mileage, my favorite Trek game as a kid was actually an unlicensed PC title called EGA Trek. There was a really colorful control console interface and the whole game was just you typing commands. Surprisingly good gameplay! I also really enjoyed Starfleet Academy for the SNES, Starfleet Academy for the PC, and Klingon Academy for the PC. I had that 25th Anniversary Gameboy game and it was sooooo hard, at least to my kid self!

"What kind of stupid name is that?" Ah priceless. Great episode guys I can see you all had fun with this. Great editing, footage, a guest interview and appearance, loved it. Im not a big ST fan but even I know most of the games don't do the franchise justice and youd think they would. But then again some Star Wars games are hit and miss too. Hope you guys tackle that one. Awesome job guys!

They also forgot Starfleet Academy for SNES, with its awesome SNES-era pre-SuperFX polygonal starships... I guess it also came out for the Sega 32X, but that just shows off how superior the stock SNES was! Maybe they're saving these games for the next Star Trek games episode where they'll bring some other Star Trek actor on, as well as bringing Icheb back for a second appearance lol

There are way too many Star Trek games for them to cover them all. I don't think anyone "forgot" Bridge Commander. If they did, then they also forgotStar Trek 25 Anniversary (MS-DOS) and its sequel Star Trek Judgement Rites, the FMV PC games Star Trek Klingon and Star Trek Borg, Starfleet Academy (PC), Starfleet Academy (SNES and Sega 32X), the Starfleet Command series (SFC:1, SFC:2, SFC: Orion Pirates, and SFC:3, although Star Trek Tactical Assault is essentially a Starfleet Command remake), Klingon Academy, Klingon Honor Guard, Armada, Armada II, Away Team, The Next Generation: A Final Unity, Deep Space Nine: Harbinger, Deep Space Nine: The Fallen, Dominion Wars, Shattered Universe, Star Trek Online, Timelines, Trexels, and Star Trek for the Atari 2600. I'm sure I'm forgetting some too, but that's all I could remember off the top of my head.

@@DannyHensel74205 There were also unlicensed Star Trek turn-based strategy games for most of the 8 and 16 bit home computers (usually written in that system's native BASIC version) that followed the same format: Make your way through a grid of sectors hunting down Klingon ships, using starbases for resupply and extra protection if there were Klingons in the same sector. Phasers had limited energy that had to be balanced with the shield energy, and photon torpedoes required entering a heading toward the Klingon ships and could miss or get blocked by stars, but would destroy the Klingons in one hit. There was a Mac port of these that was pretty well polished, and would even use MacInTalk to read the status messages to you.

That was absolutely hilarious, I finally lost it at the Bootleg Harry Kim. This is easily one of the best episodes you guys have ever made. Keep it up! Kudos to Manu Intiraymi for being such a good sport and a great guest. He's proof of the many genuinely nice and down to earth actors that make Star Trek such a great experience.

So i have been on a crazy DS9 marathon finally watching it for the first time after watching TNG and then you do a video about Star Trek Games?! Coincidence??? I think not! Dave and Joe you’re stalking me and my KZbin history. I actually appreciate it though 😂 especially with great videos about Star Trek and retro gaming. Edit: and you start with a DS9 game?!

Fun episode. I appreciate that you used a real Genesis in the opening. As I am typing this, I realize there is some real comedic potential for Wrath of Khan Project Genesis references. In terms of other Star Trek games, in case you do a follow-up episode: there were many home versions of the vector-graphics Star Trek game you played at the end. Starfleet Academy on the SNES, then 32x. In the 90s, I recall seeing a Star Trek (TOS I think) game being demoed at a Sam's Club. Maybe it was a point-and-click based PC/Mac game.
