I think Night Trap suffered from the Barbra Streisand effect. It was a shame about Dana Plato, while politicians argued about over a tiny bit of very low resolution footage, real people's lives were falling apart. Love the ending though. Excellent Video. Your best yet I think.
@Razorgeist6 жыл бұрын
A fun and informative video. That being said 17:33 damn thoughtful and decent of you to mention Dana Plato's personal issues and tragic passing. We can joke all we like but sometimes you gotta remember there are people involved in this business and they dont always have the best experience and life.

This game was made before the standard ESRB rating system, and for some reason ALL games were just assumed to be made for children by the general public. Kids today have NO idea what this was like. While the 80s were like the Wild West for video games, the 90s were left with the job of building up the infrastructure for the entire industry as it became more clear what these things were capable of. It was an exciting time to be a gamer.

Awesome video Nick! Made my night shift at work better. I remember one of our neighbors had a Sega CD and we all thought this was the cutting edge of technology. Who could forget about FULL MOTION VIDEO when it came to the Sega CD. I also remember Night Trap and Mortal Kombat being the catalyst games that started the ESRB rating systems. Funny to think now that such a silly game cemented the rating system that would rank all other games to come for their content within. Man the 90's were some good times...

I'd love to hear that guys opinion on GTA5; not. Interesting insight, I remember renting this as a kid and thinking it was ridiculous, my opinion hasn't changed at all over the years. It still remains iconic to me based on the terrible choreography of the black suited dudes; crab walking their way through the trap filled house, on second thought; this might just be my favourite game ever created!

So I know this is an old video and one person's opinion on the internet is worth less than .02, more like .000000002, BUT the reason *I* liked Night Trap wasn't the novelty of seeing real video in a game or the 'mature' nature of the content (I can barely type that with a straight face). What I loved about it was the persistence; the fact that the game was always doing something, regardless of what the player was doing. While you're watching the living room, something's happening in the kitchen. Sometimes things would be happening simultaneously in different rooms. This went a long way to immersing us in this otherwise lame (even by 80s standards) horror flick. That Game Over when you sit around in the van too long? That just added to the immersion. It was more like an Easter egg, like all the traps and Game Overs, except this one, while maybe seeming a bit unfair, didn't cost the player any progress and hammered home that you could never zone out, that this was a living world with things happening in it and the player had to get in to that world. That being said, you're 100% right on the story vs finishing the game. There are more than a few clips you flat out can not see without missing some Augers. Two things helped people suspend their disbelief with the game at the time. One was indeed the novelty of live actors and a playable 'film' but the other was quite simply the lower resolution and colour depth of the video on the Mega CD. Watching the remaster is nothing short of painful; all the wobbly sets and joins in the walls where the traps are, are virtually invisible on the original. Anyway, that's just my perspective, great video as always. Discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago and really lovin' the content. Toot Toot! =)

I think nightrap is a huge stepingstone for gaming history. It wadent a good game no, but i still think this game neded to hapen. I dont understand why they set focus on imaginary violence and how it efects kids, espesialy with night trap. You are literely trying to stop the violence, thats the point of the game. But i would imagen bieng scared to play nightrap when i was little. Whenever i here videogames couses violence, i honestly think its the stupidest thing ever. When people are violent, videogame isent to blame. You dont see an 15 year old kid who grew up with mortalkombat seling his soul to the devil so he can get chains in his wrist. You dont see the animator of the gore in mortalkombat riping people in half. The makers of the violence should be the most craziest people on earth. The only thing i can say about videogame violence is kids arent stupid. You are not gonna see some kid piking up a pump shotgun and shout averyone out from his tree house until hes the only one left. I grew up with violent games but im not crazy, i dont enjoy violens or chrime. In fact i despise it. I personaly could not think of hurting a fly, i would honestly feel bad for it if i acsedentaly steped on it. Anyway Nice video. Sry im a bit late to the party i was bussy with school and i havent got enuf sleep either. Your video is great i love how you get to talk about violence in videogames and the game itself. I espacialy love the menchion of what hapend to that girl becous i honestly dident know. Its great to get some insight to what sort of stuff was going on at the time of the games relese. Great video 8-9 out of 10

I don't think they understand the idea of realism. Also do they not know what comedy is? I mean it might have been different at that time but this is hilariously unrealistic. Who buys that kind of device in the first place? Does it even exist? I'd buy one just to have some story to talk about.
