At this point i wouldn’t be surprised seeing OLED screen mods for these. The GBA is by far one of the most moddable consoles ever made. I like the look of the Spaceworld GBA.

An unintended side effect is that the pixel grid is useful for playing in the dark, when even the lowest brightness setting is still quite bright.

I installed this kit recently. FYI, if you want to disable the touch functionality: simply removing the touch pads/wires wasn't enough for me, it resulted in the brightness/pixel modes changing randomly. I removed the chips next to those wires with some pliers on the assumption that they are the touch sensor controllers, and sure enough that fixed the problem.

If you are trimming then it's not a drop-in mod. Why would they advertise that way if trimming is mandatory?

Well, I said trimming isn't required. You can install it just fine as is. It just looks better if you do.

During the mario test I noticed the two spots where the shadow from the 240p test suite was left were still exhibiting some flickering, any idea how long that effect might persist? This seems like a nice kit otherwise but that could be an issue for some depending on what games they play and how much sprite flickering those games use/how it's used in the games (if it's persistent in a given region of the screen or such).

Flickering might persist a few minutes. It gets worse the longer you leave that flickering sprite in place. I am told future kits will address this but I have no further details on that.

Hey I did this mod without soldering, the touch pads work for brightness and color filters, but is there any way to get the pixel effects without the OSD?

EDIT: I figured it out if anyone has the same issue, just hold the brightness button and it will cycle through the pixel options

@@Canti64 toggling FRM still appears to need the osd/button controls. I imagine we'll see a revision that addresses that.

Dear Makho I got a question, i have a dsi that is not working anymore, can i just put the bottom screen into my gba? i already have all the ribbons from the funny playing ita kit. do i need a polarizer also? my ITA AGB TFT BACKLIGHT LAMINATED KIT arrived, the display wasn't even glued together properly, the glass came off the lcd. when i turn on the gba the display stays white. sound can be heard. i wiped the loca glue off both screens with isopropanol. screen still stays white. when you hold the glass in front of the display and look through the glass the display is completely black . already contacted funny playing they have not replied but my question is now, if the additional polarizer is necessary to buy?

Sounds like you peeled the display apart. Yes you absolutely need a polarizer or the display won't work. I assume you meant to ask about the digitizer and, no, you do not need that. If your display arrived damaged, you should seek a replacement from the vendor before trying to fit another LCD.

if I got this kit would I need an ips specific lense? to fit my ips ready shell or is the standard lense the right size so i dont have a giant black lip haha

No, it uses stock sized lenses. Hence "drop in".

Who makes a good IPS ready AGB001 shell in glacier? Something that looks accurate to the original. Nintendo logo above the screen and all that.

Nintendo made some pretty good shells back in 2001. Might need some trimming though.

They all have accurate colors. The original displays did not display colors accurately so a lot of games had tweaked palettes to compensate for this. There are no kits that I can recommend that correct for the palette tweaks in games.

@@makho Semantics, but I'd consider the original displays "accurate" because that's what the (majority of) games were designed for. Games tend to look oversaturated on most backlit displays sans micro, imo. It's a shame none of the replacement screens have tried to replicate the colour space of the original.

You can use whatever you have on hand. Thinner gauge is better. You can cutup an old USB cable or ethernet cable if you don't have anything.
