When I first started getting into electronics around 2013, the Gameboy was my ambassador to that world. This video showed me that you can take old, junk consoles and make it something that you’re proud to own. Now that I’m 19, I have a job as a web developer and computer technician, and I’ve been working with electronics for several years. I partially have this video to thank for leading me down this path. So thank you, random guy on KZbin, for inspiring the next 7 years of my life and beyond.

It made me happy to see them clean like that again. The grime is basically skin and sweat over all the years. I always clean my old joypads and they work better too. Right, I'm definitely gonna try something like this when I get chance. Gameboy fixing and modding is something I've always wanted to do.

just wanted to thank you for these videos, i have been able to resurrect about 15 old gameboy pockets that were broken!

Very nice repairs. I find fixing hand held systems much more relaxing than working on consoles. I think it is the fact that once I open the case I can see most everything.

As a Game Boy fan and a member of small Polish Game Boy Scene I must say that this video makes me happy :) Thanks for saving two of these fantastic consoles from the prison of trash :) And thanks for teaching us methods which will aid our quest for ressurecting as many of them as possible :) Greetings from GBforever Polish scene :)

Love how you are soldering on carpet. :3
@ChozoSR3888 жыл бұрын
You got lucky with your GBC speaker. I recently purchased one on eBay, which worked perfectly, except for the speaker. I opened it up, and the speaker came out...in three pieces.
@marcocaru8 жыл бұрын
+ChozoSR388 Yeah the speakers on the GB and GBC had very thin diaphragms inside them. Moisture easily gets trapped in them and ruins them.
@ChozoSR3887 жыл бұрын
The nice thing is that it's not that difficult of a repair job. A little soldering, and a fresh speaker, and it's back to close to brand new.
@ChozoSR3887 жыл бұрын
djmckillertom As long as they have a standard headphone plug, the earpods should work just fine, as long as you don't mind not having the gbc speaker. And I would just replace the speaker. You can get one with a working speaker on ebay, but it's cheaper just to replace the speaker.

Just bought a gameboy lot that came with a dead original gameboy. I soldered the power switch like you showed and now it works! Best thing is the guy just threw it in the lot for free cause he figured it was completely broken.

Nice vid. Just a few comments about the soldering job. First, I recommend removing the old solder because if the new solder does not mix well with the old, then down the road you may end up with the same issues again. Flux can also help if you insist on leaving the old solder in place (and comes off easily with rubbing alcohol). Flux will also help prevent shorts. The two pins to the side of the power switch are just to affix the metal "cage" of the power switch to the mono.

These videos have been a huge help with some other things on my end (like the board repairs with soldering+flux) so I really appreciate you uploading everything. Keep up the great work dood! :)

It is really unnecessary but they are super duper cheap to get online, they're like 3 bucks, they are so cheap to the point where they don't need the special screws, probably one of the reasons they are less prevalent in newer consoles.

Solder reflow eh? I was thinking of fixing a gameboy pocket I scored for $3.50 usd while traveling abroad. (coz seemed broken) I didn't have any luck with batteries, but when I powered thru a wall adapter I got a faint view of the logo! I figured... Hey! Maybe not completely broken after all! Then I found your video which surprised me coz it was right under my nose! Coz I've done that to ps3's, never figured on a old game boy since they don't get really hot? Idk, but I'll give you credit for helping save another gameboy!

I just had my 33rd birthday on Tuesday March 5th 2019 and I got a lot more I Tunes Cards So that way On March 20th 2019 I will have plenty of I Tunes Store Credit to get me through another month and with KZbin premium I have no more ad’s and if I put my Phone on sleep mode I can still hear the Audio playing Because without KZbin premium the KZbin Audio would stop. I love the gameboy Repair From this Guy Luke Because he reminds me of my birthday Luke.

Hey Luke! Are there any Gameboy fixing/modding videos upcoming from you? You explain the process quite well, and I think I just have to revive the power switch of my GBC. Did you ever add audio jack port to GBA SPs? I'm a bit afraid to start on my 101 model.

I've got a gameboy pocket that basically instantly dies when I turn it on. Red LED light illuminates for a second before fading out. I can even hear the "chime" before it shuts off. Happens no matter what batteries I use. I have already tried soldering the parts around the on/off switch like in your video. Haven't tried anything else. Any ideas?

Looks like you need a new Game Boy. They're pretty cheap.

MikeCollectsVideoGames, I know it's a late reply here, but sometimes the connections inside the switch get all gunky and rusty. A bit of contact cleaner and switching it on and off repeatedly for s few minutes should help.
