That awkward moment when you fear the worst, and you just forgot about the contrast button.... Cheers your video helps solve the fact im an idiot.

ayyyy thenks for that, I was a bit hesitant to stick somethin under the gameboy screen bc i have a clear model and i generally fix things and leave them looking bad, but this was a much easier fix than i thought it would be
@RavenTheLabrador7 жыл бұрын
Seth Andersen if you did what he says to do in the video you actually haven't fixed anything it is not glue and it is not tape that holds the ribbon cable to the PCB it is solder and I genuinely hope he was just joking in his video when he says it's tape or glue. To fix this properly you need to open up the Gameboy and repair where the solder has come apart from the PCB and the ribbon cable connected to the LCD and this will fix all those missing lines making the screen work 100% again.

"It might take a little bit of wiggling to get it off". Found that statement funny for some reason lol. The tri-wing screws can also be taken out with a 1.4 mm flat. They come with those small screw driver sets. It will not strip your screws. Maybe that will help someone out there that doesn't have a tri-wing sitting around. Cool video Luke. The ones where you take things apart are my favorites. Just don't spray any WD-40 in the Gameboy lol.

If you have tried fixing the lines in the screen and now none of them are working them you might have burned the ribbon cable. I had 3 broken original Gameboys with this problem when I first tried this. I killed the first one as it got too hot for the ribbon cable. The 2nd still has a few lines in it and the 3rd works perfectly. It takes a little practice.

I have one with a black splotch in the middle of the screen that's there whether it's turned on or off. I thought maybe the splotch was on the backing and that just attempting to mod it with a backlight would end up fixing it but the splotch is still there, just clear colored rather than black without the green backing. Is there a way to fix that or is there anyone that sells the actual LCD screen to replace the whole screen?
@RavenTheLabrador7 жыл бұрын
Matthew Luebeck there is no one that manufactures and sells replacement LCD screens for the original Gameboy it is also extremely difficult to remove the old one and solder in a new one a lot of people believe it is impossible to do this it is not impossible but if you are not a very experienced person with soldering and electronics the chances that you will destroy the LCD when trying is almost 100%. the LCD has many different layers on top of and underneath the two layers of glass that make up the LCD screen the LCD has many different layers on top of it underneath the two layers of glass that make up the LCD screen if what you are talking about is what I'm thinking removing the top outer layer will most likely fix this problem for you. if you are unsure about any of this in terms of doing it for yourself and are interested in having someone do it for you please let me know I'd be more than happy to do this for you for a small fee obviously but my feet is very reasonable and you would also need to pay for the shipping both ways. let me know either way or if you have already had it fixed :-)

I hail from Martin's video B) I'm wondering if this applies to more modern LCDs like DS Lites and what not and if so, if it's possible to replace the ribbon cable itself off of the LCD? I have seen 0 of the sort and the response is usually "buy a new screen".
@RavenTheLabrador7 жыл бұрын
Randumbness absolutely 100% do not go by what this guy's video says he clearly has no actual idea of what he is talking about I mean seriously come on he is talking about it like it's glue or tape which connects the ribbon cable to the PCB lol.😂 😂 😂 😂. It is absolutely not glue or tape it is solder and putting something like paper or cardboard in there is like putting a Band-Aid on a broken bone it's not going to fix anything. if you are looking for someone to fix your game console who actually knows what they are doing let me know and I will gladly send you my contact info and can send you information like my fees and any other info you're interested in.

@RavenTheLabrador7 жыл бұрын
Jeff Vouladakis that's because this guy has absolutely no clue what he is talking about I'm glad that you use a soldering iron to fix the other lines that is the proper way to do it not what he was saying because he was saying it's glue or tape which connects the ribbon cable to the LCD and I'm assuming you obviously know that's not a fact lol anyways to use your soldering iron on the other ribbon cable that was a death sentence for the Gameboy right there that is not something that you should try to do at all it will 100% always destroy it. bottom line don't trust this guy's videos he doesn't have a clue what he is doing at all either he just seriously doesn't know how to do it properly or he's making these videos as a joke in hopes of destroying other people's Gameboys.

unfortunatly no, it doesnt work for a game gear at all. the screen in a game gear is completely differant from a gameboys. for the most part, if the screen stops working, the entire unit is shot. its extremely hard to replace a gamegear screen.

@RavenTheLabrador7 жыл бұрын
y a I know your comment is old but if you're asking this because you're curious if there are replacement LCD screens made for the Gameboy DMG unfortunately no there is not and even if you get a used one from an old Gameboy they are extremely difficult to remove and solder in a replacement without destroying it. it is not impossible most people believe it is but it is not impossible but is extremely difficult and if you are not very experienced at soldering you will almost definitely destroy it when trying.
@cutemimi2511 жыл бұрын
Actually Rikarocks2001 is right that is a Super Famicom, if you look closely at the Super Famicom it will say Nintendo Super Famicom if it was a European Super Nintendo it would have an oval around the Nintendo logo (and there isn't one).

CanadianChief55 There is no one who makes a replacement LCD screen for the original Gameboy DMG it is also extremely difficult to remove the old one without destroying it and it is equally as difficult to install a replacement one from an old Gameboy. It is not impossible most people believe it is but it is extremely difficult and if you are not very experienced with soldering you will almost definitely 100% destroy your Gameboy.

@newtwo101 Thanks man you're a big help. I'll try to find time to do that. I know Game Boy is old but there's nothing quite as nice as playing your game boy games on a REAL original console you know? Adding pressure does not work well ... If you want to fix this quick and easy, just buy a soldering iron and re-heat the ribbon-cable near the end of the screen and it will melt itself into the original position. Takes about 10 minutes :)
@RavenTheLabrador7 жыл бұрын
Mikkel Lian lol I know right lol.😂 😂 😂 😂. this video is so pathetic I mean come on he was saying it's glue or tape that connects the ribbon to the PCB from the LCD screen lol come on I seriously hope he was joking because if not that is just ridiculous and so pathetic LOL.😂 😂 😂 😂 what is happening when you use a soldering iron to fix this problem properly what is happening is you are heating up and melting allowing the solder to Reflow and make a connection again between the ribbon cable and PCB. If this guy had any idea what he was talking about he would know that LOL
