It's about time we talk about the theme of one of the most popular monsters in recent Monster Hunter memory. This is the Monster Hunter World Bazelgeuse theme! The Monster Hunter World version seems to be universally preferred over the newer MH Rise version, so I went with World for this one.

@@maxeon0937 That is correct. It's why Seething is only in the Recess, because some Bazel went back home. A lot of bazel tho, with their bad sense of seeing territory, just kept going. Since bazel is often compared to a WW2 bomber, I always imagine that the starting violin is mimicking an air raid siren, and the heavy drum beats throughout the theme are the heavy footsteps of soldiers marching in unison, with bazel himself leading the charge while broadcasting the main melody like some kind of propaganda

5:20 I feel like this section is supposed to invoke two specific things about Bazelgeuse. The section sounds like flying, but unlike Valstrax's jet-powered rocket into the stratosphere, it's a representation of the smooth and level flight of Bazelgeuse's double bombing run signature attack. Additionally, the section speaks to Bazelgeuse's character. It has a feeling of a holier-than-thou arrogance as it drops bombs on the player from far too high up for any melee weapon to reach. And when its variant Seething Bazelgeuse was released in the expansion, its armor set was given the name "Pride" (following the pattern of Savage Deviljho's armor set named "Greed" in Japanese and "Esurient" in English). Additionally, both the regular Bazelgeuse armor and Seething Bazelgeuse armor make use of a lion motif in their visual design.

"World" was my first Monster Hunter. This theme was everything described, but also from the player's perspective. When I hear his iconic roar, and his shadow sweeps across the sky, my blood sings with fire and passion, ready and excited for the fight. Half the time he shows up, it's him fighting indescriminently. But every now and then, we fight together against another monster, and it feels amazing! Truly heroic at those brief moments

I'm so glad you decided to talk about this theme, he's one of my favorite monsters and has one of my favorite themes. I've done a lot of research on Bazel so I think I'll leave a fun thing here about him: His seething variant, specifically the armor, talks about one thing: *Pride* He is a very prideful being, imagine a bold knight who seeks to challenge any fighter. To show his sheer power and might on the field of battle and to impress all! Bazel is a prideful monster who only wishes to show that he is an apex, both to monsters and hunters. If you're ever curious as to why Seething is only available in the Elders Recess, it's because that's where Bazel's territory originates. And after all the new monsters arriving in the new world, he decided to protect his main home instead of invading. Basically training himself to prove to everyone that this is *his* turf Thank you for reading if you did, don't forget to like the video and subscribe to Davi!

Two fun facts. 1: His nickname can often be B-52, the B-52 being a very large 8-engine US bomber capable of carrying massive payloads, thus a prime carpet-bomber plane. 2: Whenever Bazel show's up in a game, his theme will override any other existing music in-game. His theme song takes full priority. Very informative video btw, enjoyed it. This is defiantly, most likely my favorite monster and song from MHW.

The Hunter, tensed up and in a lot of danger fighting this dragon that can essentially explode whenever it wants to and Bazelgeuse, the hero of their own story, with grand entrance, heroic music and sees themselves as this brave and mighty warrior fighting this evil invader of "their" habitat completely oblivious to what everyone thinks of them, both humans and monsters. The coolest part of Bazel’s theme is that the music is PERFECT as an invader monster theme in that it has a completely different feel depending on if you run away or decide to challenge him. When you’re in the early game, bazel is scary as hell. Aside from being able to insta-kill players in mid-tier gear, you’re even told not to challenge bazel the first time you see it, so in the beginning you’re generally going to want to run away or use dungbombs to make it go away, so the time his theme plays is limited to the beginning parts, where it’s meant to feel like you’re being chased. If you’re confident enough to fight bazel, then you’ll spend enough time fighting and listening to the music to get to the part at 5:06 where it starts to sound heroic in a sense. And then 6:40 hits. This is bazel’s REAL battle music. Everything up till now was just him chasing you. Now it’s a real fight. Now it’s time to take revenge for all the grief and annoyance bazel put you through. The first time a player hears that heroic melody, they’re going to get an irl buff hunting horn buff to their confidence stat. I still get chills remembering. The question and answer part, in addition to being like two opponents trading blows, also makes me think bazel is asking the player if they mean business. The long and heavy part is bazel saying, “Wait, are you serious about this?” And the high and short part is the hunter saying, “Yeah, let’s do this you stupid bastard.” It’s so good. I didn’t initially notice the “attention-seeking bastard” part of it until I watched your video, so I’m glad I got to learn something new about a song I thought I already knew inside and out. Subscribed.

I really love this theme. I think it's very interesting to see this theme as being from Bazel's perspective (thinking it's the hero, who's obligated to get involved and spread it's justice lol), for me I interpreted it as Bazel completely turning the tables no matter the situation. Bazelgeuse can ruin a good hunter whose in control of the hunt, but also provide aid to the struggling hunter. In the moments it invades, it immediately steals the spotlight and makes your new goal "holy shit I gotta survive this". The unique tone the music strikes (especially in the base MHW), being very set apart from whatever theme it's overriding, paired with the circumstance it appears in just makes it so damn memorable and iconic. I love how it isn't an overly "threatening" theme, that's telling you to stay alert and be scared; there were many themes in the past that were different spins on that (Tigrex, Deviljho, Gogmazios, etc.) Also yeah, it is pretty funny as well when you're done with Bazel's BS and the theme basically screams at you "it's Bazel, here to save the day!" lol

You were so, so close throughout the entire video to pinning down exactly what the composers were thinking with this theme that it's almost painful. That point about the bomber plane was especially nerve-wracking. Bazel's intro is meant to mimic air raid sirens, and to serve a similar purpose: to warn you that something terrifying is about to touch down. The entire theme is about the Hunter suddenly having to struggle against an imposing foe that doesn't just break the flow of battle, but *entirely usurps it.* Bazel is an apex predator, and one of the most aggressive and dangerous monsters both gameplay-wise and lore-wise, so any time one shows up it's absolutely imperative that you focus on it and it alone. So more than it just being about Bazel's mindset of being the only thing that really matters, its theme is about it forcing you to conclude the exact same thing. Now with that out of the way, I gotta say, I'm quite impressed with how much insight you were able to pull from this just by listening. The fact that you very nearly expressed exactly what the composer self-admitted was the thought process behind the theme is stunning, particularly that bit about Bazel being a selfish monster. Excellent work all around!

"Attention-seeking little bastard" is Bazelgeuse spot on. He is attracted to the roars of other monsters, so 9.9/10 times if there's a monster roar and Bazel is in the vacinity, he -will- show up. And won't leave.

I fell like the different parts represent how the hunter feels: At first the violins are happy because you don’t immediately understand what’s going on, and you’re too focused on the monster you’re hunting to realize that this is the invading tyrant's theme, and the melody is subtle and your focus is on the monster so you probably don’t even realize that the theme changed When the brass drops in, the melody becomes more significant and you realize the theme changed and that something's off, so you stop paying attention to the monster and focus on the theme and just when you realize that this is bazel's theme… The main melody kicks in as well as a 20 meter organic b-52 diving directly at you at Mach 20 with a signature and iconic roar that has scarred millions of hunters so you superman dive and you just barely manage to avoid the 30 tons of pure muscle and explosive fluids falling from the sky Then the tense and urgent melody starts, this represents the hunter desperately trying to reach for his dung pods or if you don’t have any, this represents the hunter trying to come up with a plan, because he knows he has to act immediately in order to survive, and all while trying to survive the brutal onslaught of attacks from two monsters combined Then the emotional melody kicks in If you are hearing this part is either because: You’re hunting bazel Or You don’t have dung pods This represents the hunter watching his perfect hunt with no interruptions completely falling apart and being destroyed by the bomber, it is at this point where the hunter realizes that the only thing it can do, is to fight a brutal and unfair 2v1 against Bazelgeuse and *insert monster here* So the hunter is now scared Then the theme escalates and slowly becomes heroic This represents the hunter accepting the duel and trying to convince himself he can win, and the hunter feels his ego and power increase and it feels empowered to strike both monsters down at the same time Then the even tenser melody kicks in again as bazel and the other monster enrage and as your palico barely saves you from carting with a vigor wasp, now the fight Is at it's peak moment and the hunter is putting 100% of his energy trying to survive the brutal fight Then the heroic theme starts again *Bazelgeuse* Parts broken *Rathian* Parts broken Rathian reaches 10% health and flees to her nest, but bazelgeuse is still enraged, so you can’t run away without him following you But now that the rathian is gone, you at least have a chance to take down the tyrant, so you slowly begin to turn the tables as the theme gets more and more heroic, until finally, bazelgeuse lets out a screeching roar as he takes to the sky and flees to the next area. you have survived the onslaught.

I posted a comment in the very upload of Bazel's theme you used as reference, that this song hits me in a specific way. Basically, it feels like Bazel's theme symbolizes the player/Hunter's mindset upon first encountering one of them. It starts scary, tense, and imposing, but soon becomes more empowering and inspiring. It's as if the hunters who encounter Bazel are at first terrified, or in awe of such a unique monster. Soon though, that fear transforms into determination and even respect. One of the tenants of the Hunters Guild is to respect the monsters you hunt, after all.

The idea that the beginning is his intro for himself and the resolution is because he's shown himself and gotten on the stage goes so well with the fact his roars almost always right on the resolution. The build up occurs when he invades. Just in time to release for Bazels introduction via a dive or a roar.

This is wonderful! I'm only halfway through. I'm not familiar with the game itself, but that music reminds me very much of a violin piece my mom used to play all the time (we kids loved it). It's Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumblebee." She also loved to play "Bumble Boogie" on the piano. Though she couldn't play both at once (obviously), and because she loved Liberace's combination of the two ( "Liberace Flight of the Bumblebee and The Bumble Boogie" ), she and a friend would often get together to play that combination. Stan would play the piano, and Mom would fiddle. It was one of my VERY favorite pieces that they would do together (especially when their usual drummer and the wonderful Bass viol player who were the other two parts of their dance band, would show up, as well). I LOVE 5/4 music, but 7/4...WOW! I've played it, but I have to REALLY concentrate (on cornet, not piano). It really does portray the two "attacks" well. Wonderful job! Thank you!
