The most amazing part is that Ricsi defeated Maxime in Grünfeld, the opening he is the most comfortable in, and plays against really everybody no matter what rating. To find some line which he not comfortable in, and a so dominating win is huge. I hope Ricsi makes it to final (and to candidates tournament), he is playing great chess recently, can be an other breaking through point here.

Rapport is a genius and it reminds me of the Marshall Attack in the Ruy Lopez, the master Frank Marshall prepared this attack for ten years before he sprung it on an unsuspecting Capablanca, but Capa refuted it over the board. Lesson: even if you are a book genius you will lose if your opponent can calculate well.

Thankful for Rapport being more prominent the last couple years! Chess has largely become a game of memory at the top tier, it's so much more mechanical/theoretical since the use of engines. Richard has been filling the large void since Chucky doesn't get many invites to top tier tourneys. Hard to imagine the possibilities if Rapport was committed to tourney play as much the others in the top 10?!

The joy of finding the move . Yayyy! And the follow up move, I was considering between pawn to A4 and kF3 and would have preferred kF3 (only because I'm still learning how to utilize and play with Bishops).. the way Rapport moves his bishops, I'm getting a feel of how Magnus would play coordinate his bishops to advance passed pawns.

What a wild game. I somehow managed to find the Rook to C7 move but I didn't appreciate just how absolutely dominating Rapport's position would be with just the Bishop pair and the passed pawns. He was literally unable to castle and the other rook never entered the game but Maxime was basically rendered helpless. Really shows you the power of pieces in the right position rather than the "innate" value we assign the pieces.

@@franktuyl lol, there's something more i just noticed. If he actually take e4 and the rook captures the bishop then it's game over for white cause no matter where the white king goes after the discovered checks, the white h rook will either fall or the pawn get promoted, unless the king captures the pawns then in this case the white bishop is lost in a fork.
@juela2092
@juela2092 2 жыл бұрын
@@franktuyl @Meuse @K GK, i thought this too so i put it in a (mediocre) engine, the engine points out that after ...fxe4 white has d6+ Kh8 Rxd7 exf3+ and because of the pawn on d6 white has Re7, blocking the check and blocking the e file rather than moving the king, saving the position for white. black will still get a few pawns for the bishop, for example after Re7 the engine suggests ...Bf6, Rxe8 Rxe8+ Kd1 fxg2 Rg1 Rd8 Rxg2 Rxd6 black for the moment has 3 pawns and traded off the advanced f pawn for white's advanced d pawn, but it seems in this position this is not good enough against the bishop pair as the engine evaluation seems to fluctuate between +2.5 and +3 as i let it run nonetheless the engine does give ...fxe4 (or ...Bb5, a4 then ...fxe4 extremely similar) as the best line for black (ie better than what was played in the game trying to save the bishop), and at least to me the position after Re7 still seems quite interesting, so i do wish agadmator had addressed it in the video

1. White's king was in the center so Maxime tried to open up the position. But that was a blunder. 2. Rapport was basically playing with a rook down, because his h1 rook had not entered the game, yet his attack was too strong. 3. Both players had the bishop pair, but maxime's bishops couldn't neutralize Rapport's own even with the help of the extra rook. This is what makes chess elegant 👌🏾😍

Why not sac the Bishop on move 12 ? Just take the pawn on d4 instead of moving the Bishop away. You would take at least 2 pawns for that, and massacrate the center of the white defense, to me this is the more sensible thing to play. I'm not ever sure you could call this a sac. You didn't seem to analyze that possibility, all you do is trying to save the bishop.
