There's very little detail to be had. He did a rough outline of the protagonist and colossus, then paint-bucketed the colossus grey. By "detail" and "footage" I assume you're impressed by how the animation seemed to zoom about a 3D field, and that's because he traced it. I think the animation is funny and all, but it's still a bare-bones rotoscoping. "Outstanding" definitely isn't the right word. He just traced rough outlines and added a simple face to the colossus. I give him an A for effort, and at best a C for anything else.

I know this is from a long time ago, but rotoscoping is really hard. He's essentially tracing out every picture frame by frame. That takes plenty of time and effort.

SpyroLUVA Typically its how you mix cartoons and live action video. You take the live action footage (in this case the episode this animation came from) and trace over it. The camera style of this is accurate because it's the actual footage of the game grumps playing, tithinian just drew over it. And I don't mean "just" in a way to diminish the work, it is actually really good.

step 1 : Use keepvid to get game grumps video file step 2 : Use any editing program (after effect, premiere etc) to export each images of the sequence in jpeg Step 3 : Import the jpegs in photoshop/tv paint any animation software. step 4 : Roughly draw over the defining lines over each characters and elements in each images. Step 5 : add funny face for the colossus (this one you actually have to animate sort of, this is the only "hard" part of the job). Step 6 : paint over the colossus body with grey. Step 7 : Export animation, upload on youtube, get millions of praise and hate comments.
