Seeing the creativity on display throughout the short, the cranes definitely would be something with intent, and the shot itself seemed designed to give her more character than just "origami themed killing machine". Her services are so expensive that multiple villians have to pool in to pay for them, and yet she's staying in a run down little apartment? And the focus of the shot are the many cranes folded with the money? The only logical explanation is that the money goes towards something outside of herself, and treatment for someone she cares about seems the most likely choice. It was ABSOLUTELY intended to hint at her humanity and a tragic back story, and is one of many reasons why I love this short

I love the detail of Origami's facial expression showing her being genuinely shocked that the last of the Factotums almost matches her skill pound for pound, falling short only due to her superhuman abilities giving her an innate advantage. An example of this is when he gets up and hits her with his hat. You can see she’s looking at him like “Holy shit dude, you _survived_ that?!”.

Coming back to this gem at the end of the year. I feel like in comic book terms: * Encyclopath is a golden age villain, classic 1940s mobster with a colorful gimmick type. Dick Tracyish. * Miss Conduct, The Blot and Lady L are SIlver Age. High-concept wackier scientific abominations with overt superpowers. * The Verdict is bronze age. Darker (but not too dark) villain with the sort of anti-authority theme that fits the comics code cracking and the greater social awareness of the bronze age. * Origami and Avi are Dark Age, the ultra-violent, gritty new breed in town.

The entire premise is just the rouges gallery complaining about getting beat by him and hiring a new, instantly skilled villian to take him out. Why the first two are quite normal for a hero, the final one though, that one could be exaggerated, or we have an anti-hero or worse, a Homelander.

Origami is a very skilled female assassin coming from the East and with a very flexible body, she seems some sort of amalgamation between Shiva from Batman's rogues gallery and Ragdoll from Jay Garrick (the original Flash)'s rogues gallery but it's how this amalgamation has been done and how the origami gimmick was implemented that make her interesting

Analysis of the gathered villains: Encyclopath- A polymath along the lines of Bookworm or Riddler with a propensity for elaborate, multi-layered crimes, often at the behest of others given his mention of benefactors. Probably the slowest to actually anger, but quick to become irritated and has a somewhat unwarranted level of response to such based on his glare at Blot for a playful teasing. Lady L- A light based villain given not only her appearance, but the mention of a giant mirror and sunlight. Not nearly as advanced in her theme as say... Doctor Light, though. Possible she can generate light bulbs as needed under her shade. Her general appearance reminds me of Chairface Chippendale, an enemy of The Tick. Verdict- Most likely an actual judge at one point in his life, but got a little extreme in his methods or saw too many criminals walk. His greatest weakness would probably be the very laws he once upheld if used properly against him as the situation warrants. Could possibly be a current judge with enough experience to stay just disconnected enough from his crimes to avoid capture. Miss Conduct- An elemental villain, but going by her appearance, she's more like Freeze than Electro or Livewire. She's wearing safety goggles, which tells me experiment gone wrong. And those spheres are no doubt essential to keeping her new existence stable. Her powers, based on how the bulb blew at her anger, may mostly be electromagnetic in nature, which could further explain the need for the stability orbs. Blot- Similar to Clayface, but apparently with at least partial psionic control over any sort of ink given how he altered one of the cards he was holding. Based on the faces he adopted and the innocent prodding of Miss Conduct's form, most likely sports an almost childlike mentality. The suggestion of dropping a piano on Red Eclipse, like what a cartoon character would do, lends further to this. This makes him probably the most dangerous overall as children can be unpredictable. Origami- Suit reduces weight and makes wearer as flexible as Ragdoll. Advanced martial arts and acrobatics training. Pieces of the suit can even detach and made into weapons as seen when she made a pistol using a portion of her suit and the bullet she'd just been shot with. Assuming that last part since the pistol was made from material over her bullet wound. The suit probably reduces mass/weight given how easily Jacobi lifted her box, unless he possesses above average strength, which is not outside the realm of possibility. Aviv Jacobi- Standard organized crime lord like Carmine Falcone or Wilson Fisk. This would grant him vast resources and connections. He clearly doesn't care for Blot being present, suggesting he finds it somewhat... lacking. He even knew its revenge idea most likely thanks to past meetings. Extremely patient given his tired/irritated reactions concerning Blot and Miss Conduct. Might even be their main fencer when it comes to stolen property and has many legitimate holdings. Rather like Cobblepot these days. The warehouse setting probably belongs to him.

Good breakdown! However, the boss who called the meeting is called Aviv Jacobi (6:11), a very Hebrew name which may imply affiliation with the Jewish Mafia. Interestingly, his last name, in addition to being derived from the Biblical patriarch Jacob, also means 'to supplant' or 'to circumvent', reflecting his leadership role and scheming nature. And, perhaps, his ulterior motives...

He was making a house of cards when Jacobi began talking, after all. Keeping that in mind and the faces he showed, I would wager his wrath is akin to the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes. Powerful, destructive, inescapable. He could probably kill all his fellow villains with surprising ease should they anger him. Though I suspect that is usually quite the feat. And sometimes he has a hair trigger. Unpredictable.

Its insane how quickly you get the characters personalities across in this, literally in the very first sequence... Encyclopath arranges his cards in numerical order, displaying that he is a silent but organized sort of criminal Verdict voices his irritation at the tapping sound, asserting the insistence of his authority as a 'judge' and quickly illustrating that he is a cordial but impatient man (with a silent knock of cards from Encyclopath, as if to signify his agreement with Verdicts opinion) Of course Miss Conduct is constantly tapping, clearly displaying that she is more volatile, neurotic, and high energy then the rest of the crowd The Blot idly changes the values of his cards to his benefit, displaying that he is an unscrupulous trickster And then the interjection from Lady L, both defensive and beleaguered as she tries to defuse the tension, clearly defining herself as one of the most laid back of the group All done in under 45 seconds... the attention to detail is peerless!

I love that Miss Conduct looks complicated yet so eye-catchingly animated to draw. Origami is amazing for an assassin relying on contortion and paper folding in creating weapons, how her sharp yet alien design is reminiscent of KH's Nobodies and Inque from Batman Beyond and how she just begrudgingly accepts Conduct's number. I have to say it's pretty cold and probably convenient for Encyclopath to sacrifice his goons just so that origami would secure the payment for herself.

you know i maybe imagining things but when i first saw Verdict i couldn't help but think "whats so intimidating about a stooped backed old man"? then i rewatched the video and realized he actually has very thick arms as well as a large body mass overall then it hit me he is probably one of those secretly super muscle-bound old men and uses the robes to hid how big/strong he his. A little detail I noticed. In the after credits scene Orig-Yami is shown with a huge number of origami cranes in their apartment. This is likely a reference to the one thousand origami cranes Japanese legend. In this legend in which if an individual or organisation successfully makes a thousand cranes in a year, they are granted a wish. This would imply that Orig-Yami is unhappy with their current situation and wishes for something different.

They must all be around the same power level, or at least very confident of their own skills considering none seemed fearful of the others. Judging how relaxed they are around each other suggests they aren't in competition either. Perhaps they have very clear areas of control or work different types of crimes? Super villains normally aren't the kind of people you put together in a room and have good things happen. For that matter, Jacobi's status as leader is questionable; he doesn't command them considering he was surprised they all showed up (Blot might not have been invited) and none of them seemed afraid or intimidated by him. All of which, to me, suggests The Red Eclipse is more of a Flash kind of super hero than Batman, albeit more violent and less moral given what Verdict accuses them of doing. Also shows why their minions put up a reasonable fight against a skilled assassin. Just going up against a speedster and surviving would filter out a lot off chaff.

Something fun I noticed about the Factotums: a few of them have words on the bands of their hats. Absolutely fucking adore these little details, man. Keep this up! For those who wanna see these small details, see below! Though there's a lot of writing. Be warned. These words all seem to relate to the character themselves in some way. A motif of these words being something that describes a trait or behaviour. A majority of these words have negative connotations. Before we kick off this definition-fest, here's one to start us: *Factotum - "An employee who does all kinds of work".* 3:17 - "Cockalorum" - "A boastful and self-important person". Seems to refer to how the guy's in the front and centre stage. 3:21 - "Corpulent" - "(of a person) fat". This one you can barely spot, and you can't make out the 'C', but I thought it was a fun catch. Pretty straight forward; the guy's pretty hefty. 3:28 - "Vacant" - "Having or showing no intelligence or interest". Given how this guy seems to underestimate the best Assassin they could find, maybe he's not too bright. 3:30 - "Fatuous" - "Silly and pointless". The guy's internal organs play more of a role in this than he does. He strikes me as pretty silly or pointless, hah! 3:32 - "Craven" - "Contemptibly lacking in courage; cowardly". Seems to refers to the guy's expression, and how of all the Factotums, he's the only one who doesn't die, on account he's out after being hit in the nose. 3:33 - I can't make this one out fully, but I can spot the letters "cre". This guy also appears at 4:18, and despite my best efforts, I can't make out what the word says on his hat. I could just be retarded, and likely am, but I think the word is "Decrepit" - "Worn out or ruined because of age or neglect" or "Elderly and infirm". Given the guy's moustache, it may refer to him being older than the other Factotums. Another fun little detail is that when he dies at 4:24, you can see his hat come off, and the guy is balding on-top! 3:38 - "Edacious" - "Relating to or given to eating". (I could be wrong on this one, too. Another word it could be is "Audacious", meaning "Showing a willingness to take surprisingly bold risks" or "Showing an impudent lack of respect".) May refer to how he was trying to get close to Origami to take a shot? Given how little time it takes for the paper plane to travel, he likely got pretty close without firing a shot. Therefore, not respecting Origami's ability. 3:52 - "Frownzy" - "Smelling strongly of body odour". (Fun fact, apparently this word is a Jamaican term!) Not sure about this one - maybe the guy just doesn't have good personal hygiene! 4:00 - "Termagant" - "A harsh-tempered or overbearing woman". Given how we see this Factotum really get all up in Origami's face, I think calling her "overbearing" is very fitting for the character. 4:10 - "Trepidant" - "Trembling or fearful". (I could be wrong on this one, too, as you can make out the letters 'Trepe', but not the rest. Given the guy's body language, I think "trepid" or "Trepidant" may work well. The word apparently is used in British English rarely). If I am correct, then look at his body language. He's holding the gun close, looking around, his body language uptight. I'm don't wanna sound like I'm from "JCS Criminal Psychology", but it's pretty obvious this guy's fuckin' scared. 4:12 - "Quisby" - "A wretch; an idle person". (Another fun fact, this is apparently a slang word that's fallen out of fashion, and was used roughly from the 18th to 19th century!) Two things about this guy. Firstly, he's the only Factotum in that scene to look visibly surprised when Origami runs up the pillar. Secondly, of all the Factotums in the scene at 4:18, he's the one who does the least fighting and is the first to die. Hence: an idle person. 4:13 - "Sialoquent" - "(Of speech) Spraying Saliva". Once again, another poke at a negative trait of this character, even if we never see it. 4:31 - "Maven" - "An expert or connoisseur". I don't think I need to explain this one, other than saying he's very deserving of this, given how his fight scene with Origami lasts the longest. Though, I think it still speaks volumes given how the longest 1v1 that happens in this whole onslaught of Factotums is a whopping 14 seconds. (And, even then, if we're splitting hairs, he technically only lasts 10 seconds, given how by the time Origami grabs him, the fight is basically over.) **BONUS ROUND:** 2:18 - "Vapulate" - "To flog or whip; beat or strike." Another slang word that has since fallen out of fashion. Can also be said as "Vapulated", "Vapulates" or "Vapulating". 0:50 - "Forbearance" - "Patient self-control; restraint and tolerance", as also clarified by Verdict: "Patience". 2:00 - "Perfidiousness" - Oddly, this one's definition states: "Definitions of perfidiousness. betrayal of a trust. synonyms: perfidy, treachery. types: insidiousness. the quality of being designed to entrap". Given how specific Encyclopath's wording is, I wonder what lead him to use this particular word. All throughout this short film, it's implied the Red Eclipse isn't a strictly a good guy. 2:02 - "Propagated (Past-tense)" - "Spread and promote (an idea, theory, etc.) widely". 2:03 - "Benefactors (Plural)" - "A person (Or persons in this case, due to it being plural) who give(s) money or other help to a person or cause". 2:04 - "Auxiliaries" (Plural)- "A group of volunteers giving supplementary support to an organization or institution". Also refers to the singular of "auxiliary", defined as: "providing supplementary or additional help and support". 2:05 - "T I M O R O U S N E S S" - "Easily frightened; fearful". And, finally: "Encyclopath" - not a real word, but a play on the words Encyclopaedia and Psychopath. Both of which wonderfully seem to fit his personality, based on his vocabulary and the few emotions he does displays, respectively. (Think the Legion of Doom deciding The Joker has to go, and he has to go yesterday). It could be that while they have their criminal activities, they work in such a way that the relevant law enforcement only gives them so much trouble, but the Red Eclipse has changed the playing field that it's causing trouble even for other villains, so they're getting together to restore evil. Sure, they're bad people, but they're not evil.

Im so glad its back. I noticed somethings where a bit different, some of the pauses in between dialogue where shorter, oragami not shown getting shot, more camera movement specifically when the red eclipse gets mentioned instead of a simple zoom the camera goes to each villain while zooming in, blots response when asked if he has a piano was simpler, and while oragami was spinning on the final hencmen there was torn cloths and blood. Still I still love this entire video, I have watched this so many times that I notice small things in the action and timing with the music.

I honestly don't understand some of the changes that seem like unnecessary cuts. Like it seems they were cut for the sake of fitting a time frame which I would be excited for that it means they might be trying to fit a request for a producer or company as a pitch. Valve fucking shirked their chances for a show because they just couldn't restrain themselves of handling the deadline and requirements professionally. Like passion is important but frustrating as it is you work with restraints for a reason so that you don't go overboard and end up with a really messy project. Like Metal Gear 4 with how it became the game of all time. Fan fare galore and a weird production history behind it that tried to push the envelope further.

I have a theory: Aviv Jacobi, the guy in the suit, is The Red Eclipse. Now hear me out... There's a hint of red in his suit. He looks like a dashing rouge, which can be either the good or bad guy. Out of everyone in the room, he seems... normal, even compared to Encyclopath. He knows the criminals enough to predict some of their thoughts, like with Blot not using a single word, but he knew the Blot wanted to use a piano. We've seen other heroes, like Batman, slip into personas to be among their rouges gallery. Now why would he hire an assassin on himself? He would be pulling money away from criminal elements by having the crime bosses pay for the assassin, as well as diminish their hopes of wining by beating this superb fighter. This would cause them to see their ways as incorrect, and thus more open to rehabilitation, reducing their numbers, and thus slowly but surely removing crime from his streets. Of course, I could be wrong... What does everyone else think?

Origami's so freakin cool ngl, I love her freaky-ass fighting style, it's so inhuman and awesome!! The inhuman way she moves during her fight reminds me a lot of General Grievous from the Genndy Tartakovsky version of the Clone Wars (and of course the later version of the clone wars once it got handed over to Filoni, but she mostly reminds me of Genndy Grievous)

thinking about the villains, they are super characterized by their voice actors and movements Verdict: insane, but has his laws and codes instilled in him so much he memorized it all, from it all his looks i bet hes some kind of took the law too literally into his hands Lady L: casual, acting like this is her 9-5 job instead of something to be dedicated in. probably a big highroller in some tech industry from the way her outfit is and considering she talks about having lots of men, as well as a death ray Encyclopath: its in the name, hes a psychopath who's taken in villainy as probably a way to get his darkest thoughts out into the world. took right into the mob life style real well Ms. Conduct: A scientist turned villain, from her ADD and other demeanor most likely on the spectrum. my guess is she was so excited about finding out a experiments result she tossed aside the safety to instantly get into it. most likely the least evil of the bunch as she states the "lack of psychotherapy?" because shes more self aware of her conditions Blot: with his abilties its safe to say in this style of era he was an animator of some kind and was turned into a ink being, he clearly has some fascination with cartoons. most likely an introvert who uses his transformative powers to show how he really feels Origami: traditional japanese as hell, probably a personal assassin for the oldest yakuza clan out there. professional and efficient. probably uses her paper power to keep focus thats why there are so many

@@paninisauce6949 Aviv Jacobi reads to me like the real hard hitter, the one who is the straightest killer out of them. russian or possibly slavic, hes the straightman of the group reading everyone with the normalist of normality but when he does something he will have it done. my guess is he's red eclipse's first enemy and only true rival. seeing himself as more of a buisness man hes made a career of crime so when it comes to the red eclipse, he REVELS in making him pay for disrupting the flow of crime a real Carmine Falcone type

I love the way this is done with it showing the villain's perspective rather than the hero's. I've always been a sucker for interesting villains. Sometimes heroes can be quite boring if they have basic motivations.

I kind of miss the little talking hand gesture Blot originally made at 2:27. I understood it as them trying to convey that they just wanted to contribute to the execution suggestions. Still happy to see this reuploaded though. I have, no joke, rewatched this over 10 times. Totally worth showing at film festivals.

Had to watch this back at low playback speed. The amount of detail you sneak into brief moments of the fight scene is excellent. You gave Origami a lot more personality than most people would ever notice.

List of changes from the original: the cutting motion from blot is gone (was at 2:25). the encyclopath has gained glasses (which previously were wrinkles). the animation is much smoother in some areas. the phone number on origami has changed. some of the dialogue is shorter. more blood and torn clothing was added to henchmen. more sound effects were added to origami.

Those details with an vocabulary word on some of the henchmen's hat like "cockalorum" which means boastful and self-important person. It adds that bit of personality in charecters we otherwise know nothing about, and I love that. I cant wait to see more of your work!

Big hench's hat being Maven also adds bit of respect you wouldn't really know other people in his organisation have if there was nothing on those hats. Encyclopath probably himself saw and recognised his talents to gift it or possibly promoted him to it.
