As a Canuck, I must say that was a shaky start, week first kill....that was a four on two! Impressive finish for gold. Solid goaltending on both sides there, but three Gs on 3 shots, that hurts....even for an old beer league goalie such as myself.

Tournament takes place during the CHL playoffs, so this Canadian team is made up of players on teams that missed the playoffs....usually why we don't do well in this tournament. Best U18 team is sent to the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup in August, where we dominate.

For good reason. The NHL is slowly catching up to it, finally. We all love big hits and a physical game, but targeting the head or hitting the head as a result of a reckless hit has no place in hockey… unless of course folks prefer having even more players suffering from CTE and ending their lives early 😢

IIHF referees have never had any tolerance for head hits like the one Connelly got called for. They're going to call that a 5 every time. It doesn't matter if it's in the last 11 minutes of the gold medal game. They don't let the game circumstance determine if something is a penalty or not.
