I love the scene of Tyrion trying to convince Joffrey to stay. We see that despite our hatred of him, Joffrey is still just a teenager and is understandably scared, and Tyrion is truly giving him great advice without sarcasm or mocking. That could have been a turning point for Joffrey, for him to man up and act like a king. But of course he doesn't, and acts like a coward.

Was it URGENT business???
@bigpictureguys84158 күн бұрын
I thought the same thing. That was a defining moment for Joffrey, he seemed to truly level with Tyrion and was all ears to his advice. Seemed like he was considering it but fear won out. Would’ve been interesting to know how things could’ve happened had he stayed, they won, and maybe he bonded with Tyrion through that experience.
@bigw7258 күн бұрын
in our world sure, but it’s normal for boys his age to be trained and experienced in battle by his age. joffrey is more than just a frightened child, he’s a true coward. he could’ve been 35 and i don’t believe he would have acted any differently. edit: just thought about the fact that there hadn’t been any large scale conflicts in joffrey’s life up to this point for him to have had an opportunity to get any experience outside of training.
@gregdrake50698 күн бұрын
@bigw725 I literally said he was a coward. I only said it was understandable he was scared. Tyrion was obviously scared too, but acted like a leader. But its still understandable that he was scared. Understand now?
@bigw7258 күн бұрын
@@gregdrake5069 easy there big guy. i understood you the first time, i just disagreed with the phrasing. i don’t think joffrey deserves even the grace afforded to him by referring to him as “just a teenager” in this context. he wasn’t just a frightened teenager when he attacked micah, and nobody besides him was speaking so flippantly and arrogantly about this fight leading up to it.

In the book Tyrion lost his nose from that slash, but CGing out his nose every episode on the show would have been expensive with the show’s budget at the time. This is the first time the show had the budget to actually show a battle rather than creatively skipping it, only by being frugal with the preceding 8 episodes.

“No little bird, I won’t hurt you.” I just adore Sandor. He is a truer knight than any of these other weasels and rats. Sansa was brought up with tales of valiant knights, songs of ladies being rescued by their prince. So coming to Kings Landing was a disorienting time for her. Everything she thought she knew about lords and ladies and knights and the kings court, were lies. She had to painfully find out that no, your prince won’t save you, infact you might need saving from him…and that the knights of the kings-guard were nothing but well paid thugs. But she met one knight, the one everyone is scared of, the one the king and others call “dog”., the brutish monster with the burned face. He was the one who would save her…when her “prince” wouldn’t even send one man to look for her, and he is the one who would take her away from Kings Landing Home…if only she had taken him up on that offer.
@ergopropterhoc8 күн бұрын
sandor clegane isn't actually a knight. matter of fact, when he was named to the kingsguard, which requires you to be a knight, he refused, but joffrey named him anyway. he hates knights, actually, because his older brother inherited his family's knighthood, and he thinks if gregor can be a knight then the a knight's vow must actually just be some kind of a sick joke

The Lannisters lackeys did horrible things to the Kings family when Tywin sacked the city and Jaime killed the mad king. Thats why Cersei would rather kill herself and her son with poison. Then again, Cersei thinks everyone is as awful as herself and her father. Or maybe show Stannis is actually that horrible, I dont know. Something the show does not do a good job of portraying is why Stannis' soldiers are ready to follow him into battle no matter the odds.
@roykentseyebrows41968 күн бұрын
Stannis isn't horrible, per se, but he's practical and ruthless. The first thing he'd do is execute every person with any claim to the throne that might dispute his.

I think if Stannis got them alive he would have sacrificed them to the lord of light. Burned to death is not a good way to go.
@Serryy8 күн бұрын
@@GrahamCarle I doubt it, mainly because he wasnt all that excited about Melisandre at the time. He was still horrified by what happened to Renly and decided to do the invasion without her. And if the topic came up, Davos would have rightfully pointed out that burning the previous royal family alive would have horrified the realm.
@bigpictureguys84158 күн бұрын
They could’ve done better but they’ve made it very clear that Stannis is a firm but (for the time) fair ruler. He’s old school. He has considerably more honor at this point in the show than any non stark. Outside of the vagina demon he wouldn’t do (what he considers) shameful things to win like the Tyrell’s just did.

@@bigpictureguys8415 I think that if they gave us a scene or two of Stannis treating commoners and lords the same when it comes to the law, instead of just him burning people with no explanation in his introduction, that would go a long way already.

The show doesn't do the sequence of events justice in my opinion. But in the book, it is Loras' brother, Garlan, (who is a badass btw) who shows up in the vanguard wearing Renly's armor. This convinces Stannis' men, many of whom used to fight for Renly, that Renly was still alive, or that his "shade" had come for revenge. So, the men turned on Stannis and made the battle into a rout. In the show, Garlan isn't included so they gave the part to Loras. That's why you have focused shots during the battle of Loras in Renly's armor fighting and why his "reveal" is a bit dramatic.
