A bit of a note here - Stannis' men followed him after the wildfire because he inspired them by leading from the front shouting, "Come with me and take this city," as he's first to get in the landing boat. His men fled not only because of Tywin's army but also the Knight of flowers, Loras, was wearing his lovers armor. Most of Stannis' men were from his brother Renly (Loras lover), so when the turncoats saw a rider dressed as their former king they though it was a vengeful spirit coming for it's due.

Hound is a pretty empathetic character. He hates Joffrey, hates seeing women tortured and killed (like when he saves Sansa) and has a good heart hidden by years of torment and killing. Just takes a little while to see

No (most) charachter is black and white. Everybody has their own morals and motivations for why they do things. For example most people see tywin as a evil villain but in reality he's just a bad father. His deeds are for the people and the things he has done are honourable and badass. Or jaimy who's a good guy from the inside but is blinded by love. So many charachters are very complex

So what sparked the Hound's defiance against the king wasn't him being upset about losing his men, it was his crippling fear of fire. Not sure if they have yet disclosed how he got his scars, but that is what haunts him. Still he is a great character that in spite of the role in which is cast he tries to do good. great reaction, luv.

The Hound has pyrophobia(fear of fire) that stems from his childhood of being burned. So with the boats on fire, wildfire, and the burning arrows, he emotionally broke and had to leave.

All the way back to one of the first episodes (2 or 3 I think) in season 1, Littlefinger says during the Jousting Tournament that the reason The Hound & The Mountain hates each other, is when they were children, The Hound had taken some of the Mountains toys to play with. The Mountain then as a punishment took his little brother (The Hound), and hold his face into the fireplace, which is why the Hounds face are so scarred. And since then The Hound have been afraid of Fire.

Felt the same way first time I saw this. Hated Joffery, yet wanted him to take charge. Hated Cersei but felt kinda sorry for her in a strange way (still wanted her dead). The only Lanister I felt a true connection with was Tyrion. The family you loved to hate and the family you hated to love. This one was a killer Love your reactions Hannah.

Easily one of my favourite Episodes if not my absolute favourit of the series, from Stannis leading his troops personally, Tyrion outwitting his opponents, Joffrey acting like the big coward he is, The Hound trying to save Sansa from the city, the Cersei Sansa and Shae interactions, Sansa leading the women in comforting them, even Lancel gets a moment to shine as he fights alongside the Lannister men and tries to bring Joffrey back to the battlefield.

To be fair to Cersei - she believes she and baby Tommen are about to be cruelly tortured, humiliated, and murdered. She doesn’t give herself a clean death, she doesn’t give Joffrey a clean death. She tries to save her good baby, her innocent baby. It’s such a pure moment from her. She has so much fear and pride and hate, but she’d let her skin get peeled off before she’d let Stannis torture her child.

Stannis is a complicated character, and the actor plays him brilliantly. It's fair to say your opinion of him is likely to fluctuate wildly before going decidedly in one direction. The Hound is terrified of fire because of what happened to him when he was a child. PS Contrary to convention axes aren't really very good weapons for a dwarf - when you have such short arms you need something with a lot more reach so people can't cut you to pieces before you can get close to them.

It's hard to put my feelings about Cersei into words for this episode. On the surface, the fact that she was prepared to give her son a gentle death almost seems noble under the circumstances; but we all know she wouldn't bat an eye over someone else's child dying in horrific agony, which reveals the true nature of her actions to be motivated by cowardice and self-interest more than integrity or moral fiber. At least that's my opinion.

Battle of Blackwater is a very famous and great episode :) Glad you enjoyed it in a way, it's very stressful of course too, but very well written Also for the Hound! Remember he has PTSD of fire after his brother (The Mountain) burned his face when they were boys. So when he saw all the fire and people getting burned it triggered his PTSD.. and that's pretty much the only thing he's actually scared of in life.
