The whole Ned-Dany thing still keeps me up at night. He wants to keep her safe, but he sends Jon to slowly die at the wall. He knows how shit The Wall is. The Ned Knows Things. It is Known.

Well, to be fair, Ned can't really stop Jon from going where he wants to, and it's not like he can really use him as a bargaining chip for marriage. In Ned's mind, Jon isn't some great dead conqueror reborn, he's just a kid. So the options are have the "bastard" son mope around while his wife is all cranky about it, until someone finally figures out it's Jon Targaryen and Robert goes into full Targ-rage mode...or allow him to go off and pretty much have the guarantee of getting the position of Lord Commander up at Castle Black. In Ned's mind, it's a win-win-win, he doesn't have to deal with Cat, he doesn't have to deal with Robert, and Jon is more than likely safe but still get a fairly honorable life.

OR...Ned purposefully sent Jon up to the Wall, because of the theory that Uncle Benjen knows about Jon's pedigree and that's the whole reason why Ben is up there (atoning for the guilt of not speaking up sooner or whatever), not to mention Maester Aemon Targaryen. Not to mention the added bonus of getting a Sam that is too smart for his own good. I'm wondering which is more true, Ned just glad to have a simple and honorable solution to the Jon question or passing the buck on getting the truth out.

10:30 The criticism of Roberts morality and consistency between sparing Barristan or Dany is very off-base. The reasoning that followed was weak and effortless. This is not an apples to apples comparison. One person is loyal to his position and oaths. His master is no longer alive, so sparring him makes perfect sense. The other is a pretender that could eventually kill you, or your children. Possibly set off a massive war causing endless misery and suffering. I mean, this can be explored much more in depth, one was accepting a risk of losing their life and the other is a child just wanting to survive. But to hand wave it as some ageist and sexist (and occupationist? heh) is...almost comical.
