It's worth noting that Catelynn's coldness towards Jon goes deeper than a betrayal of marital vows. Galavanting and bastardom is common in Westeros but Ned's willingness to bring Jon in and raise him as well as a trueborn son is not. Cat is concerned that Ned not only shared a bed, but shared true love with some other woman.
@WatashiMachineFullCycle9 ай бұрын
It's also political. Think back to HotD, the dance of the dragons is common knowledge among highborns, Cat fears that Jon might be a threat to her own children's claim to Winterfell. If not him, then their descendants. She's cruel to him but it does go beyond simply cheating.

@vbb20769 ай бұрын
also this one instance is an all time low for cat, she let ned raise jon among her children (many noble women wouldn't have) and she was an absence mostly, but in this once scene she's been at bran's bed for weeks, ignoring even her own children. I believe she looks back on this exchange in the book with regret and shame (i could be wrong). Ofc it was still a very hurtful thing to say to Jon who was 15 at the time
@bookswithike32569 ай бұрын
@@wannabesmoker420 Um, no. At the time Ned fathered Jon, Cat was still in love with Brandon and barely knew Ned. They shared one night together before he had to go off to war. It was more about the dishonour he did her and the political implications of raising Jon at Winterfell.

I usually do "dragon lore" on HotD videos, but today we'll do DIREWOLF LORE: the name of each Stark direwolf Robb - Grey Wind Sansa - Lady Arya - Nymeria Bran - Summer Rickon - Shaggydog Jon - Ghost Their names really reflect their personalities... Sansa's Lady is because she was raised to be a proper lady and, as a young girl, desires to be as graceful as her mother. Arya's Nymeria is named after a warrior queen, something Arya aspires to be - a woman who can be a warrior and not a proper lady. Bran's Summer because he was born in that season and has yet to see a harsh winter. Rickon's Shaggydog because he is still so young and innocent. Jon's Ghost represents his outsider status within the Stark family. Robb's Grey Wind.... I don't know how that represents him, it's been a while since I've watched the show myself
@WatashiMachineFullCycle9 ай бұрын
Actually I want to make a slight correction because it's one of my absolute favourite chapters in the first book. While he's unconscious he has the coolest dream where he looks into the heart of winter itself, there's nothing but death and cold, and when he wakes the first thing we get is this: "And then there was movement beside the bed, and something landed lightly on his legs. He felt nothing. A pair of yellow eyes looked into his own, shining like the sun. The window was open and it was cold in the room, but the warmth that came off the wolf enfolded him like a hot bath. [...] Bran looked up calmly. "His name... is Summer." he said." Also Ghost is named that for the reason you said, but also because he's white, and in the books he is the only wolf that makes no sound whatsoever. Grey Wind is the only one that seems to have no overt meaning - Robb tells us he's named that because he's grey, and incredibly fast, but like anything with GRRM if you dig into symbolic themes there's likely other reasons that fit too.

Many people criticize Sansa but don't understand that she is doing the right thing by remaining neutral. Joffrey is her future husband and king and Cersei is her future mother-in-law, she cannot turn her back on them, by remaining neutral she does not put anyone at odds, and Cersei would have had the wolf killed no matter what Sansa would have said and besides it would have been worse for her if she had told the truth.

Sansa actually has a huge commitment being set up with the prince and heir to the throne, so she couldn't just disagree with him causing her to be on the outs with who is meant to be her future husband and mother in law-- so she had to take the middle role not betraying her family but also not directly taking a side
@Cherryfxmls9 ай бұрын
This ^ it’s a far more complicated situation than people make it out to be . Women in this time are taught to obey, particularly noble women. It’s very likely sansa has been taught by her septa and mother to obey royalty as they are at the top of the feudal hierarchy, and she is marrying into the family. Taking a neutral position on such an issue was the best possible thing she could do.
@thelegacyofgaming29289 ай бұрын
Let's be honest. Sansa does NOT think this way at this point in the story. She just wants the prince to like her and her infatuation with him 😂

@thelegacyofgaming2928 not discounting this! She is a child of 11 years old, hence her intentions would be…childish. I’m merely pointing out the reasoning behind her thinking and actions which subconsciously inform them. Of course, that’s the patriarchal, feudal world they live in, which GRRM is a constant critique of. Sansa gets a major reality check later on, as we the viewers know but hey ;) this show is all about character growth and I think the way that GRRM has written her is quite intriguing! Especially with her arc later on. Have a nice day! 💓

A few clarifications: * Unless they massively expand the scope of the show, HOTD is not going to cover 200 years of history between Viserys I and the start of GOT. It covers this particular, uh, "interesting" period of time in the history of the Targaryen dynasty where the succession gets all effed up, as you've seen. It's not a spoiler to let you know this because that is just the stated concept for this show. As you said in your conversation, knowing the Targaryen dynasty continues after HOTD tells you nothing of who wins this struggle between the blacks and the greens. * This is also not a spoiler as it's already been said in the show but you just missed it because there's a lot of lore to digest, but Rhaegar Targaryen was not Daenerys' and Viserys' father - he was their older brother, the crown prince who was set to inherit the throne next, but was killed during Robert's Rebellion. Rhaegar, Viserys and Daenerys are the kids of Aerys Targaryen II, AKA "the mad king," which was the last Targaryen king before Robert Baratheon took the throne with the help of the Starks and some other big players.

Sansa is the "typical", or an example of what noble's principles of obedience, etc. are on how noble girls will react to things that happen around & to them. And noble girls are the most vulnerable of this class. 2) Sansa is still a child, 13 or 14 or whatever. Just...keep this in mind.

Did I just hear them say that they think Rhaegar is Dany's father? I can see why they're getting confused when they keep bringing up the HotD stories/characters up while talking about this show. HotD happened about 300 years before this show's timeline. The only takeaway from all of the show's talk about what happened during HotD is that Targaryens stayed in power but the people rose up and killed most if not all the dragons. It's mentioned multiple times in this show that the people now have not seen dragons in a long time and the eggs that were gifted to Dany are old and probably petrified with time. Oh, and if you haven't realized it yet, the Targaryens tended to reuse the given names every generation - - there are multiple Targs named Viserys and Aegon, etc.
@davidsr19979 ай бұрын
Just one thing, HotD starts 172 years before Daenerys is born, so considering Dany is supposed to be about 14-16, and the almost 20 years added time jumps in HotD, the main events of it happened around 165 years ago, not 300. But regardless, your point still stands, apart from small historical connections, they won't find anything too solid connecting the shows.

As for character development….this show is at the top of the pyramid with character development. This show did it better and with so many more characters than ever done before. Better than movies and films. It has the edge over films because it obviously tells a longer form story as being a tv show which allows obviously for more character development over time than films do. But most shows just change whims on characters every year. This show is all from the mind of George RR Martin and so all of the character development that happens was all known and planned from the start and not deviated

Speaking of HoTD, you should be warned early the show spoils how it ends twice, once during season 3 episode 4 and season 5 episode 9. They're both short scenes that can be easily skipped.

@Alejojojo69 ай бұрын
It doesnt spoil it twice. Only once. The one in season 5 ep 9 is Shireen saying it was a war between Rhaenyra and her half brother Aegon for the throne, that was bloody because they wanted it and it was a disaster for the Targaryens. Something they already know after watching s1 of HoTD, its not a spoiler at all.
@forgethype60269 ай бұрын
@@Alejojojo6 I'm pretty sure they say what happens to one of those two people in a very spoilery way. I think the second one is the less spoilery one.

I love watching your reactions to GOT. As to how you all are not binging it is BEYOND me. Please post more like 3 per week at least HAHA. Hmm... something tells me you'll have no choice but to binge the hell out of it real soon. IT LITERALLY GETS BETTER EVERY EPISODE you haven't reached anywhere yet, literally.

It's funny watching the reactions of the two that have seen the show when things are said during the episode or when someone on the couch makes an assumption. Some things they are playing off nicely, but obviously can't go into any details.

Hey guys , I’m really looking forward to these reactions! Just be wary of some of these comments. People can be incredibly rude and toxic and spoil things just for the fun of it and/or ruin your viewing experiences. Don’t let other people’s opinions cloud your judgment. Some people will say it gets “bad” after season 3, others say season 4, others say season 5, or 6, or even season 1. So many conflicting opinions based on other people!!! So watch it without influence first and foremost and there’ll be an absence of that negativity cloud *some* parts of this fandom love to spurn !! Enjoy :) this is my favourite show of all time💓

Jack simply can’t help himself. I get it lol. Just try your best to contain your excitement and really try to think about answering them. It’s one thing to tell characters names but to just give away how you will feel about characters and how characters will get along etc. Is kind of a give away.
@WrestleGermainia4 ай бұрын
I'm late to the party for this series but I remember he did the same through AOT lol, I always dread a little when they watch a show that Jack has seen. He just never seems to realise that giving his feelings on characters and what he does and doesn't remember gives so much info to people who haven't watched it yet. He got a bit better later on with AOT but he always seems to have the most input which is bad if you've seen the show already. Hoping he stops at some point through this show, although he's already doing better than with AOT in which he was just straight up shutting down their theories lol.

@@yashA.456It is more about having trouble to hear everyone good, because they are at different distances to the mic. For example having 2 or 3 mics in front would solve that. Also the show volume is louder than half of the guys. That is what he meant by only having 1 mic right now. I see it the same way. 🤷♂ Content is great, though. 👌
