Corlys was telling the truth. Corlys is family. Daemon, just didn’t want to hear that people, besides him. Can see his brother is weak and is getting played by his own council. When the hand TOLD, the King he could not go to Dragonstone and get Daemon together. As, $hity, a King as Robert Baratheon was. Do you really think, that would fly with him? Hell no. He is the King, the council is supposed to suggest and advise. Not make the final decision. No backbone.

Him stealing the egg was a way of getting his brother to come to him, and instead he gets Otto, the man he hates. Also, he and rhaenyra obviously have something going on

Daemon is a bit like Robert in that he really likes the idea of being the king and thus the most important dude around, but he would absolutely hate the actual job of governing. What he really wants is for people to love him or at least pay attention to him. That's why he pulls all these reckless but extremly attention-grabbing stunts. I suspect a lot of that has to do with him being a second son.

About fifty years before the events of this show, there was a Princess named Rhaena Targaryen. Her dragon was Dreamfyre. Her lover, Elissa Farman wanted Rhaena to invest in her expedition to sail around the world but Rhaena refused. So Elissa stole three of Dreamfyre’s eggs and sold them in Essos to build a ship. It’s heavily implied those three eggs are the same eggs given to Daenerys 200 years later.

The opening actually represents the Targaryen bloodline, each gear they show is a Targaryen member starting with the Doom of Valyria and ending with Rhaenyra. If a gear becomes gushing with blood it means that member is dead. So the opening theme is pretty much just a huge family tree. Pretty cool.

@@octaviablackthorn9 I haven’t read the books, but these are my observations: It doesn’t seem like it so far. It seems like he loves them unconditionally. His actions so far have been to get their attention, he hasn’t actually caused any harm. He thinks he’s qualified to be HotK, and thinks Otto is awful. It pains him that Otto sits there. No doubt he’s heard his niece (who he clearly adores) is nothing more than a cup bearer even 6 months after being named heir. Remember, Aria was cup bearer for Tywin. While not the same, it’s close. The heir shouldn’t be a serving girl. This probably angers him, so he takes the egg which actually will make her come to him. In doing so his hope is that her father will see what he does, that she is worthy of their house, dragons, and the throne. He didn’t put up a fight when she approached. He acted slightly angry for show, but in reality it looked like he was happy to see her. Just like at the end, he tells Corlys not to say anything about the king. His family means everything to him. It hurts him that they don’t feel the same, but at this point he’s still seeking approval. I have a feeling he always will.

Daemon is in many ways a Targaryen version of Oberyn as a personality type I would say. He is really charismatic, and gets bored extremely easy, he is not the type to live a peaceful, calm, ordinary life. He is a man of action that likes to get his hands dirty and at the same time he has a good clever and cunning mind to use behind the scenes, that most great, even highborn warriors tend to lack.

The scene with the maggots was my favorite. In that scene we see that King Visyres wound on his hand has only gotten worse and its the wound he got when he sent his brother away, the wound, like their relationship has festered. Also the symbolism there, the King's hand is rotten. It could be physical and a reflection of Otto Hightower, who pretty skillfully manipulates the king into marriage with his daughter.

The most important line for understanding Daemon as a character was in that final scene, for Daemon it is very much a case of “The king is my brother, I can be as much of an ass to him or about him as I want because I love him, but if anyone else fucks with my brother they’re fucking with me, because he is my brother and I love him. Above anything else Daemon is fiercely loyal to his brother and his niece, he just also happens to be a massive pain in the ass about it. Daemon sees everyone for who they are, all of the people who are manipulating his brother’s tenderness and kindness, and feels powerless to stop them, so he acts out, trying to push his brother to show some strength, and also as a clear threat to the rest of them.

I think one of the best scenes was when Daemon defended his brother. Rhaenyra should definitely have a seat at the table, and be able to speak without Otto Hightower talking over her. Alicent is going down a slippery slope - keeping her chats with Viserys secret from Rhaenyra then telling Rhaenyra to not worry about the "matters of lords and kings" when Rhaenyra voiced worries about being replaced as heir, and in the next breath using Aemma's memory to manipulate Rhaenyra, based on what Viserys has told Alicent... Corlys telling truths the entire episode. Strategically for the Iron Throne and Westeros, Laena Velaryon would have been the best political match. Unfortunately, Otto used Alicent to emotionally manipulate Viserys.

I agree after she was officially named hier she should have a seat , but she would not be allowed to vote , she is still a minor , ( one exception existed, king dearon the young dragon) but the hand out ranks her , he has equal authority with the king , as long as he is in office. Daemon, for all his ambition, clearly loves his family. He laughed when Viserys said he had no ambition for the throne but he didn't when Viserys said he would never kill him. He defended Viserys when Corlys insulted him. He genuinely wanted a high position by his brother side. He might have wanted more once in that position, like Otto said, but harming his family wasn't in his mind.

Does anyone else get the feeling that King Viserys is scared of using the dragons? Perhaps the brief time that he rode Balerion the black dread frightened him of using that power, or his council has instilled that in him, only time will tell. Also, have to agree with Nikki here, the princess tried to speak up at the council meeting and they send her away, as heir, it is her place to voice her opinion, even if the council disagrees, they should explain why, so that she can learn.

They were taken by a woman called Elissa Farman who was the lover of Rhaena Targaryen, the older sister of the Old King Jaehaerys I. And that's saying something because most characters are considered gray characters in this series according to everyone. Hightower reminds me of Littlefinger. But, I am actually liking Daemon.

Honestly, really impressed with the show so far, this episode was amazing. Even without "real action" it was a great episode. A clear showcase of the writing talent they have now, only matched by the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones, with a limited budget, Game of Thrones had to stand out without flashy action so there was a real need write smart and engaging dialogue. House of the Dragon did not have that need, but takes after it's predecessor when it comes to it's writing. Pacing feels just right, not too fast, not too slow. Characters are built upon in a clever and meaningful way, even though the book lacked concrete details on this, the writers manage to add something that feels natural. This is why I feel confident this series will redeem the legacy of Game of Thrones left behind for the TV world inside Westeros. Looking forward to the rest of the season, along with your reactions and so far so good.

Personally this feels a bit more like the last seasons of GOT than the first ones, especially because the storyline is more focused on a smaller set of characters while in the earlier seasons of GOT we had a bigger range of characters inserted in various storylines that were drastically different from eachother, this feels more self-contained, faster, closer to the last seasons than the first ones.

Its been played to death now and its not even true..Game of thrones is loosely based on our own histories,, and weve always had powerful queens..Catherine the great, Elizabeth 1st, queen Victoria, Athelfled of mercia, Budica so on and so on.. it's true there were some places that wouldn't allow queens such as France..But it's not true of Europe as a whole.

Viserys gives me Rob Stark vibes. Just because you're a "good" person doesn't mean you should or will be a good king. Just like Rob Stark made that fatal mistake in not keeping his word to the Freys, Viserys just betrayed his daughter, has a pretty toxic relationship with Daemon, and now lost the support of the the richest house in Westeros at the time. I read Fire and Blood but watching it on live television just makes you realize he's really the reason for the downfall of the Targaryen house. Viserys was all about the peace times but doesn't even realize he basically started The Dance of Dragons(civil war).

@@NelleBear I meant in terms of their downfalls. Robs downfall was 100% his own doing. You don’t make a deal with the Freys in times of war then go back on your word. Especially being a Stark. Viserys started the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty. If viserys doesn’t marry or just chooses someone else rather than those manipulative hightowers then most likely there is no civil war and the dragons live on. I don’t wanna spoil anything for you but viserys marrying Alicient was the beginning of the end for that family.

2nd episode of the series and these characters aren’t just pulling my heartstrings they’re actually making me shed tears. Like Rheanyra I also lost my mom far too soon, and while the pain has gotten easier to bear, like Viserys said it’s a pain that will *never* go away. This is the reason I loved Game Of Thrones, not only for the large scale battles or political machinations, but especially these genuine and beautiful moments of love, friendship and family. As for the characters, the way Rheanyra rode Cyrax in and confronted Daemon was such a badass power move! She has the bravery of Dany, the temperament of Jon Snow, and the ingenuity of Sansa. I would definitely kneel before her. And Daemon is already a complex character, I thought he was actually ready to go to war with his brother but at the end of the episode we see that he gets pissed when Corlys insults Viserys.

Rhaenyra is likely upset for a couple of reasons over her father marrying Alicent. Of course they are friends of similar age. But by choosing Alicent, he clearly choose someone he actually cares about, which means to Rhaenyra that her father is replacing her mother. Before that, it was just a marriage of duty to the crown, something she understands and accepts.

The likely hood of Dreamfyre being the dragon that laid Drogon Viserion and Rhaegal is highly likely, if the eggs are not hatched they fossilise and Daenerys’s eggs were, so it’s highly likely they belonged to Dreamfyre, also a woman stole 3 of her eggs and sold them to a merchant to build a ship, so id say those are the eggs Daenerys is later gifted back they hatch over powerful fire while someone is also burning alive, a life for a life.

Now as all of this is happening there are two party's forming at court the greens (who support alicent's first born son) and the black (who support rhaenyra's clain to the throne) tensions between the two factions is rising and this point is the begining of the dance of the dragons as rhaenyra is giving birth to visenya her father dies and alicent supported by ser criston cole (who up until then was a rhaenyra supporter) helped keep the news of her fathers death from rhaenyra, alicent crowns her son king when rhaenyra hears of this she declares herself queen and then they go to war long story short rhaenyra's sons from her first marriage die, daemon dies, alicent's children all die rhaenyra is eaten by a dragon in front of her ten year old son otto hightower dies alicent hightower is imprisoned knowing all the shit she started lead tothe death of her children and grandchildren ser criston cole the traitor dies ambushed by the blacks at butcher's ball there will be a massive riot in kings landing where the common people where a lot of dragons that were chained died. iin the end this whole mess almost brought down house targaryen there are no victors but in the end rhaenyra's son aegon III ends up on the throne so you could say in a way rhaenyra won and alicent lost everything because of her ambitions

Dragonstone is the ancestral seat of the Targaryens, so generally, it is given to the heir to the throne (we see a real-life parallel with the Prince of Wales and the Monarch of Britain). In GoT, one of the reasons why Stannis believes he's owed the throne is because Robert gave him Dragonstone.

Rhaenyra put her life on the line to settle the small conflict between Otto and her uncle, I think she showed lots of qualities as a future leader, I think Otto was close to being turned to charcoal if Rhaenyra had not intervened, She also showed class selecting a Knight who has real abilities and not a knight with family that has political gains and power.

I think they are the main two characters of the show and story will build to moment where they either go Jamie / Cersei to have a pure bloodline or one of them kills the other. Also with Alicent's "betrayal" and that she kinda stole Rhaenyra's place as queen, that could be a reason for Rhaenyra to ally herself with Daemon.

Well ,Daemon simply wants to be by his brother's side through ups and lows(basically the Hand as stated in episode 1). Seems to be that way in my opinion and doesn't like how he has been treated by him(being manipulated by the hand and other advisors). Viserys is a good man, and he's trying preserve the peace that Jaeherys left the realm. His sensibility is more modern, which plays poorly in Westeros. He knows he should remarry, and refusing to marry a 12 year old is a good decision. He would have to wait 2 years to consummate the marriage, which means nearly 3 years before the potential of more heirs. In that sense, Alicent is the better choice.

Daenery's eggs are from Dreamfyre. Helaena Targaryen who gets visions like her father is the 2nd rider of Dreamfyre (Alisent's and Viserys 2nd child). 1st Rider was Rhaena Targaryen who was the 1st Grandchild of Aegon The Conquerer.
