I loved the opening credits. I am happy they used the original theme, but slightly tweaked as they have all the other music from the original show. I also like the concept of showing the Targaryen bloodline. Each cog represents a Targaryen and the blood that flows out shows the line of succession, starting from Aegon the Conqueror and ending with Rhaenyra. Every cog that fills with blood represents a member of the bloodline that's died, which I feel will harken back to the original opening credits sequence as cogs will be added as characters are born or fill with blood when the die, so it will be ever evolving and changing based on events of the show. So happy you decided to do these again. A real highlight for me each week. Keep up the good work. ~Sofie.

I feel at the moment it's become a bit of a rinse & repeat show. There is really nothing new here it's just more of the same. The only thing that I find enjoyable is that the king is slowly rotting.

@@claudiabailey5302 I can understand that point of view. However, George Martin likes to write parallels in all of this ASOIAF works. So there are a lot of dots that can be connected from the past to the present in terms of events and people. So almost every story outside of GOT, you can draw a GOT parallel to it and that's intentional. This story is no different. However that is always up to a certain point. What we are seeing right now is the pre-show for The Dance of The Dragons. There's gonna be a lot of similarities with GOT politcs. However there is a lot of time that passes pre-Dance and there are only certain events of interest that occur and everything else is kinda business as usual. I would say by the rate we are going we should finish the pre-show before seasons end, and that's when things start to veer off into totally different territory. Unlike GOT, the story behind this is complete and we know how it ends. And there isn't a lot of material to go on, so this can't be drawn out over eight seasons, four, maybe five at most. So once the conflict begins its going to be all guns blazing kinda thing. Its gonna be amazing to see. Personally, I am looking forward to the introduction of the Starks. Without giving away spoilers, the current Stark in Winterfell is almost universally seen by ASOIAF fans as one of the most badass rulers Westeros has ever seen. The Starks as a whole kinda come into their golden age during this time period and its going to be so amazing to see. So I basically said all this to try and convey that with patience and a little more time, this story really comes into its own.

As a student of the period of history Martin based ASOIF on I can say negotiated marriage contracts with such wide age differences were not the norm but certainly not super rare either. But even I squirmed in my seat at the scene. Thankfully it was plain that Viserys was also super uncomfortable with the whole thing.

And they were more the norm for royal families than the rest of society. Margaret Beaufort was married, made pregnant, widowed and gave birth to Henry Tudor (later Henry VII) by the time she was 13. And thankfully in this show, it's not like Laenna was going to be forced to have sex with him at 12. It was just going to be a legal binding and nothing more.

In some western societies of the day consummation was considered ok after puberty, not all though, many preferred to wait a longer for the safety of both child and mother. For example 15 year old Edward I married 13 year old Eleanor of Castile but their first child was stillborn and another 9 years passed before the second child. Examples like this is why most noble families preferred more maturity before childbirth. But I can certainly tell you that marriage of an almost 40 year age gap was comparatively rare and usually purely political. Keep in mind the Edmund Tudor was between 24-25 when he wed and bedded Margaret Beaufort and by the 15th century this was mildly unusual. He actually had guardianship of her from age 9. He married her and consummated as soon as she hit puberty because of her position in the royal line of succession, the kings declining health, and a volatile political situation. Having a male heir with a claim to the throne once the king died would immediately strengthen his position. Margaret's marriage and pregnancy were not a part of the common culture but due to political exigencies and ambition. Also keep in mind that despite being married twice more Margaret never bore another child. It's histories guess as to whether that was due to physical or emotional trauma of bearing one so young but also serves a s a good indicator of why most noble families did not generally follow such practices.
