Daemon came in with a plan but then realized he really does love her and stopped himself because he knew what he was doing wasn’t right. Him asking to wed her had more to do with him actually wanting her then the crown. Daemon during the side show was giving advice to her about needing to drop her act and start caring what the common people think about her because they are important when she rules. He’s loved by the common people and realize that rhaenyra needs there support to succeed, he wants to help the people.

I agree about his feelings towards her. Especially when Viserys accused him of only wanting the throne and he didn't say a word back. His first intention was probably to get revenge on Viserys and actually show some of the world to Rhaenyra but I guess he didn't expect her to actually go along and actually enjoy what he showed to her. That's why he got angry and frustrated and also why he got drunk.

"all Daemon is doing is decieving her" I disagree, I actually think that Daemon is the ONLY one who is actually being real with her. any other lessons on important things to know for life and ruling have been prophesy and platitudes from her father, nothing that would actually help her be Queen. But knowing the true hurdle of the citizen's perspective on her, and knowing that she gets to decide what her role is, to take what she wants along with playing her part are very important for her future. It seems to be escaping most reactors that Rhaenyra is literally the only one who doesn't treat Daemon like a ticking time bomb, and Daemon is the only one who sees Rhaenyra as a person aside from being a political pawn. Daemon has genuine reason to love her. To think that she would be better than his hated wife. But he's still a messy, chaotic dude. He doesn't really do any social thing in the "right" way. I've said some of this in the comments for other reactors but I feel like peope are massively mischaracterizing Daemon as calculating. Daemon is a blunt instrument that does what he wants. I think Damon has strong opinions about how the ruler should be. I don't think that if the ruler were being Ruler "rightly" he would have any ambitions toward it. Mostly I think this because any time there is a rift with Viserys he brings it up. "your word is truth and law" and previously in episode 1 that he needed protecting from himself. If Viserys was being a Strong King I don't think he would even have an opinion on his choice of heir. and I think that he wouldn't have given Rhaenyra the lessons she got if he didn't think she could be a strong Queen Ruler. That is proof enough that he has motivations beyond just using her for the throne.

I couldn´t agree more and I´m having the same confusion watching reactors having a hard time understanding Daemon. Daemon has a very unique forward personality that is very much Targaryen, but the king is week and surrounded himself with people telling him what to do and that Daemon is this horrible cruel person, when actually he hasn´t given us a reason to think so. Viserys keeps Daemon away and so Daemon gets frustrated and acts out.. and Rhaenyra is the only one that understands him, that´s why she was able to see right trhough his bullshit when he took Dragonstone and the egg, she knew he was just being Daemon and didn´t actually mean any harm. About the brothel scene, the advice Daemon gave Rhaenyra was absolute gold. She was too stressed out about marriage and he put an ease to her mind, making her understand that she can get married for the realm, but have a private life of her choosing. I loved that!! I think he made out with her in front of so many people because that was his best chance in his mind to be able to marry her, but the reason he stopped himself was purelly out of respect for her. Someone needs to remind Viserys that he is a Targaryen. He seems to have forgotten.

I agree completely. People are making daemon out to be littlefinger because they can’t wrap their minds around how he is light and dark epitomized in a character. There is no straight up villain in this show and yet everyone is looking for one. It’s been said he loves his family more than anything, especially rhaenyra. Yes his motives were fucked but this is daemon lmao. You can tell they are connected on a deep level and are the only two that understand one another, hence all the parallels and viserys blatantly stating “They’re the blood of the Dragon, they’re both restless and chaotic”.” Her and Cristons scenes just don’t tell the same story, it’s more of a normalized innocent first time. You could tell through the acting that daemon felt guilty before he leaves and he physically had to stop himself from kissing her again, I don’t know where they’re pulling this “he lost control” stuff from. The only interpretation I could make from that is that he is angry he let himself get that far with rhaenyra or that he won’t let himself go any further because he cares and loves for her. You can tell whatever went through his mind in that moment made him get pretty messed up through alcohol so I’m guessing he’s going through some tough feelings.

People are taking the scene with Viserys and what he said too literally. He is brainwashed by the opinions of his council, especially Otto, that his brother has his worst interests in mind. Especially when he said that he lusts for the throne more than his daughter, daemon just rolls his eyes. He knows viserys has been manipulated to be against him especially after 4 years of him not being there. Daemon also knows that rhaenyra does not want to marry a high lord, and her perpetuating that to him earlier in the episode just solidified his plan in his mind. I do think he was trying to get under Viserys’ skin out of petulance but ultimately he really does want to marry Rhaenyra because it’s obvious he does love her, but it would also help their family and restore their power. He just had a terrible way of going about it.

I think she looked more jealous of Rheanrya's "perceived freedom," since Alicent was locked into her future by her Dad. That really hit home when that awful scene with the king played. Alicent has never been in control of her own life, hence her constant anxiety that produced the issue with her fingers. Which is and isn't different from the books. I think I like the change. Makes her more human. You know, makes you wonder if Otto Hightower didn't first force Alicent to brefriend the King's daughter when they were kids. Like even her friendship with Rhaenyra was manufactured.

They did a good job fleshing her out and also to have you gain sympathy so that the incoming rift wouldn't be white vs. black (well, they are more like black vs. black as Rhaenyra wasn't a saint herself). They are making them more grey so you can justify yourself siding with either faction.

Daemon and Rheanyra are really two sides of the same coin (just like their actors said) Daemon is a mastermind but he has such strong emotions towards his famliy that he maybe unwillingly put them obove. You can see he is catching feelings for Rhaenyra on top of the respect he already has for her. And Rheanyra is starting to play the same. Those two togethrer, their dinamic - Power duo 🔥👏

@@exodustimes4266 historically, teas usually don't necessarily work...not consistantly. Mainly because when using herbs it's very very hard to make exact dosages on stuff specifically because some of the herbs that can cause a miscarriage ...it fully depends on WHEN the herb is harvested that changes how potent it is. So it'll either be too strong and cause (sometimes very significant) damage to the liver or kidneys of the woman ingesting it or will be too weak and won't do anything at all to cause a miscarriage...like the maester is saying. So ...the effectiveness is varied...and it can be very risky to use herbs to the woman and fetus if unsuccessful. Historically, anyway. I'm not sure exactly how the Westeros Moon tea functions but from what I've seen on Google it seems like it is made out of some herbs that have actually been used historically to cause miscarriage so I would assume it would work in a similar way. 🤷‍♀️ The maester said that he brewed it very very carefully so I assume with his expertise he was able to harvest the herbs at the correct time make sure that the dosage wouldn't be lethal or damaging to her body and the tea might actually work as it is supposed to function.

I think Daemon really genuinely loves Rhaenyra (in his own twisted way) but he had a plan to do this with her in public for his political benefit possibly even knowing that there would be spies in the same pleasure house where Otto spied on him before when he gave that speech. He even removed Rhaenyras hat himself so that people would know it’s her. Then once he was there he realized the genuine affection that Rhaenyra had for him and felt guilty and therefore couldn’t go through with it. I don’t think it’s the same thing like before when daemon had difficulty finishing the deed perhaps the same outcome but for different reasons.

"A Dragon along in the world is a terrible thing." I think Daemon's problem is that he feels alone in the world, like he doesn't really fit in anywhere. He's in a loveless marriage, and he wants more from his relationship with his brother. And I think he recognizes that same loneliness and longing in Rhaenyra. So while he _did_ set up the whole outing so that he could manipulate his way into a marriage with Rhaenyra, there was some sentimentality behind it. In a way, he reminds me quite a bit of Jaime Lannister. He is an ass, but at least half of that assholery is a facade.

As weird as it is there is a lot of parallels to be drawn that suggests that they would be good together.

And I think he thinks she would be happiest (if that's the right word to use here?) with him because he would let her be whoever she wants to be and do whatever makes her happy. I'm not convinced there is "romantic" love between Daemon and Rhaenyra - familial love and attraction, most definitely! I think it's more that they both understand each other...and especially understand how unloved and rudderless they each feel...and they feel less alone in the world when they're together. And we know what they say about Targs who are "alone in the world..."

Daemon is sooo clever and diabolical and this was a masterplan. As much as he likes rhaenyra and his intentions were true with her, he made it look like it happened with rhaenyra and knew that the rumor would start( he takes her cap away letting to reveal her true self, thousands could have seen/known her). Eventually when she walked out the kid sees her (kinda loved the callback to varys lil birds) and goes to Otto. In my opinion it feels like Damon knew getting this rumor to Otto would set things in motion. His plan worked when the king ends up questioning why Otto was spying on her in the first place. Beyond that scene, rhaenyra projects the same thoughts and it solidifies the opinion about Otto for Viscerys. The way rhaenyra challenges Viscerys is similar to how daemon pushes his buttons so when she gives in to wed laenor valareyon and asks him to "DO HIS DUTY" as a king, Ottogotogo. In my mind this was allll daemons plan. I could be 💯 wrong but I also felt he was feeling the guilt of using rhaenyra for this and thats why he walked out.

Daemon seems to have always been somewhat attracted to Rhaenyra, even at the beginning when he was still the heir and there was no possibility of her taking the throne. Some say that the Valyrian dragon blood has magical properties and will always tend towards finding attraction to another who bears it, which might partially explain the high rate of intermarriage in House Targaryen. I think Steven is way more accurate on his assessment of Daemon's character here.

I did really love this episode and I think it did a great job of showing Daemon and Rhaenyra's relationship. There is no question that Daemon somewhat takes advantage of Rhaenyra's vulnerability and trust for him (books and show) but he does love her, and he actually does want her. And Rhaenyra does love and want him back. I loved the parallel of Daemon and Rhaenyra choosing each other (after Rhaenyra commented on how the boys and men her father chose for her only wanted her name and blood), and Alicent who clearly doesn't actually want to have sex with Viserys or be with him, but she does so to further her families name and get them higher up (onto the throne). Love watching you guys!

I think it's quite clear Daemon really does want Rhaenyra. It's been brewing for years and we were shown clear signs of it. Ditto her attraction to him. But it's also very true that she is not *all* he wants and that he definitely sees her as a path to the throne as well as her being the prize in itself. Daemon is complex, very complex.

I think daemon sees love and commitment as weakness instead of a strength which is why whenever he has sex with someone cares for he cant finish. It also probably has to do with how viserys has treated him over the years, not giving him the benefit of the doubt, treating him as a villain, acting like a king instead of a brother most of the time, and lastly not being able to balance respecting daemon as an adult vs treating him like spoiled child.

The kid fighting the older man were members of House Blackwood and Bracken, respectively. Those two Houses have the most famous rivalry in the books, dating back to the Age of Heroes when both Houses reigned as kings. Their inclusion in this opening scene is a really fun Easter Egg.

Also, I love the contrast of the cinematography and sound setup of when Rhaenyra is with Daemon vs when she is with Ser Criston. The moment where Ser Criston pauses to look at his white Kingsguard cloak is legit so sad. He's come so far, further than anyone in his entire family ever has & is risking it all for a princess who isn't giving the terrible choice he's making a second thought. To Rhaenyra this is just an experience, bit of fun. She's oblivious to the fact that Ser Cristin will live forever in fear for his life over this. Very similar to the way Daemon treated Mysaria, thoughtlessly broadcasting lies about a marriage & pregnancy that have zero consequences for him, but would fashion a terrible & immediate end for her. GOT was always great at showing the audience how the random, often frivolous decisions the powerful make impact the lives of the "common" folk around them. The final scene between Viserys and Rhaenyra was awesome. Viserys says, "The truth doesn't really matter. Only perception." Then Rhaenyra talks about the double standards between males and females when it comes to having sex. Viserys goes, "YOU are my political headache!" I'm going to miss Paddy and Milly once they exit this show. Viserys really stood out again for me. Soft king? Sure. But good man and also a complicated one. Let's be real, Daemon and Rhaenyra do act like reckless brats and Viserys is juggling parenting between them. If you watch Cobra Kai, Viserys is a lot like Amanda LaRusso. The only sane person in the show. The only one who acts like an adult and is trying to avoid conflict. But Daemon and Rhaenyra are rebels. They want excitement and drama. This will only lead to bloodshed.

Pretty sure the guy talking shit to the Blackwood boy is from House Bracken. The perpetual rivals of the Blackwoods. They are ALWAYS at each other's throats. In the lore it's said that a Bracken and a Blackwood literally fought a duel to the death to try and claim Rhaenyra's hand. Otto is only trying to make sure that his grandson, Aegon becomes the king after Viserys dies instead of Rhaenerya because there is still a dispute between who is the heir now and of course he wants his grandson who is half Targaryen half Hightower I might add to ascend. That scheme reminds me of something that Mace Tyrell(Margaery and Loras’s dad) would’ve done. Daemon is the grey character of the show. He was force to married his first wife. He doesn’t like her, he did the thing with Mysaria to see if he could get an annulled, he now did this with Rhaenrya so he could get the annulled. However, Rhaenrya and Daemon just like Viserys said are too similar. He would be her perfect allied and consort in the future. Him stopping himself show that he didn’t just want to f her. He could have like cole did but no he wants her as his wife. Daemon is attached to his Targaryen roots he likes what made the Targaryen dynasty. And also in episode one Mysaria asked Daemon that she could bring him another girl perhaps a Maiden with silver hair. They have been hinting this since episode 1. They need to justified the season finale. As this is an adaptation of the novels yet there are some things they can’t change. Daemon and Rhaenrya is one of those things.

I do think Daemon has a genuine affection for Rhaenyra and there is an attraction between them. She is now 19 if I am counting correctly (15 when he left and +4 years). He wanted to show her that there is a fun side to marriage with the right person, but his actions had the consequence of sending an all hot and bothered teenager off on her own. The one thing that stood out to me is that if she drinks the tea, her father will think he knows the truth but if she doesn't she may have a pregnancy by Sir Criston Cole. There is a story line in the book about her marriage to Sir Lainor that I'm interested to see if they play it out in the series. It's hard to see Rhys Ifans as Otto since I've always seen him in comedies and he's wonderful, but he is doing a fine job of acting as he always does. I hope you are going to post your TLK reactions here too as I have enjoyed them and have been looking for updates. I love that series.

Daemon came back with a plan to marry Rhae and get the throne and here is how he did it.. Step 1: Come back a changed man, kneel to the king and show public they have reconciled. This is important for public to accept the marriage union. Step 2: Sneak Rhae out and take her to brothel, sully her (sex). He couldn't go through with it but can say he did and have same effect. Step 3: Abandon her so she has to walk home alone, send the lad (little bird) to tell the hand he saw the sex (which he didn't) knowing he will tell the king. The same boy is seen coming to Daemons wife after and the fact she is in kings landing with Daemon means she is in on the plan. Step 4: Get brought in front of the king, admit to sullying her but give the only option now that he should marry her. Who else would want her sullied! However, the plan failed as the King decided to deny the rumours and use it to force Rhae into his chosen union with sea snakes son.

I think that Daemon didn't planned at all, he was just being impulsive, if that was really a plan, it was the worst plan ever, he lost all his credibility after stepstones by being the one that taked Rhaenerya's virginity, it would've worked if he didn't get caught, if the rumours were about another guy having sex with Rhaenyra, then Daemon as a prince that won a war, could be a good match for her in Visery's perspective. Daemon marrying Rhaenyra actually makes a lot of sense and could prevent a civil war. He purposely wanted to be seen with her by removing her scarf and his hoodie. He wanted the rumors to spread and didn't deny the allegations. He just didn't go through with it feeling perhaps guilt or surprised Rhaenyra actually wanted to do it. Daemon does have boner issues. The twist for me is how much aware Viserys really is. He is no fool and is aware of Otto's social climbing like Daemon and Rhaenyra do. As Tyrone Magnus asked, why does Viserys fire Otto if he believes what he told him? Then Rhaenyra gets some abortion tea. So Viserys assumes it did happen or at least is aware Rhaenyra got deflowered and is worried for any unwanted pregnancies. Rhaenyra will eventually marry Laenor Velaryon, rider of Seasmoke, in the next episode. If you only knew the type Laenor prefers. Episode 5 will be the last time we'll see Milly Alcock and Emily Carey. The major time jump happens by Episode 6. I'm guessing Otto will try to poison Viserys since he recently got fired. He will push for Alicent to lay claim for Aegon. Once Viserys dies, the Dance of the Dragons begins. This means civil war. Next week's episode has a fight breaking out and you see Criston fighting in the wedding. In the book, Criston is supposed to be with the Greens. If you see all the trailers, you can see an older Alicent looking back from a distance with Criston standing behind her. Hmmm.. What's really going on? Next week's episode is going to be crazy. I'm predicting Viserys dies. TV writers are altering some of the ages and timeline.
