In this Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 5 - The Door Breakdown, we reveal all the secrets, easter eggs, missable moments, and themes going on in Game of Thrones 6x05. This was a heartbreaking episode. Hodor was told to hold the door as Bran and Meera escaped. Littlefinger and Sansa have a tense meeting. But why didn’t Brienne kill Littlefinger? Also we have democracy on the Iron Islands… kind of… Euron Greyjoy vs. Yara Greyjoy reminds me of another election between a woman leader and a loud mouth outsider… hmm. We talk about the White Walker show down. Why doesn’t fire burn them? Is it magic? And what’s with this time travel? We’ll explain it all in this week’s #breakdown.
Fimo isn’t feeling well, so his friend Erik Voss is filling in. He’s great! But it’s also his first time, so go easy on him guys. He loves Game of Thrones just as much as the rest of us. Erik gives us a sneak peek at 6x06 Blood of My Blood promo. What will happen in Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 6?

While i missed Phil, this is still The BEST GOT analysis, by far. I look forward to these reviews almost as much as i look forward to the episodes themselves. I've watched waaay too many of these on youtube and New Rockstars seem to catch more details whether it's a line of dialogue or scene blocking or shedding light on something i may not have caught or was unaware of as a watcher vs book reader. Please keep up the good work.

I think Little Finger reminding Sansa about Jon being her half brother was actually a nod to the fact he wrote the pink letter (a nod to the audience that is) because if you listen to the letter again it repeats time after time 'bastard', if you're going to think Little Finger is behind it because of a line of dialogue "Come and see" in the previous episode then clearly him saying half brother isn't coincidental either.
@allyson2day
@allyson2day 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah especially since Ramsey in books feels an almost sort of kinship with Jon Snow as they are both Bastards. Like in his twisted way he respects Jon for being a Bastard and still rising high in the world, I don't think Ramsey would continuously refer to Jon as a Bastard in that condescending way as he's well aware of his own tenuous position as Bastard/heir. Makes more sense that Littlefinger wrote the letter in a way he thought Ramsey would
@BassApp
@BassApp 8 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about that. IIRC, in the book Ramsay taunts Jon to come to Winterfell when the Wildlings came (or before mabye, I don't really remember) and he always says bastard. Or maybe it's when Jon almost attempts to leave the Wall to get to Winterfell and Sam prevents him from going... Anyway, he doesn't care about Jon also being a bastard.

- White Walkers are more reminiscent of Dragon Priests (admittedly, their design tends more towards Draugr) - Wights are reminiscent of (regular) Draugr - Daenerys (especially) & Jon Snow (to a lesser degree) are reminiscent of the Dovahkiin I do hope that, despite GRRM's denial on this possibility, they are revealed to be twins. There's not much evidence to support this, but it would be the biggest WTF yet

Great job Erik! Loved the vid as always. QUESTIONS FOR YOU GUYS: The series always seems to be setting Dani up as the noble one - the one that we naturally root for and hope to see succeed. But the same is true of Jon Snow. According to the books, the last "Prince that was promised" ended the war - but he wasn't with an army when he did. I think he did so via a negotiated peace - perhaps the wall was built to keep the MEN on their side. Only now that men are crossing that boundary are they "retaliating". Could the old prince have negotiated peace by taking a female walker as his bride? Perhaps he was (or she) of Stark lineage, thus handing down future Starks magic abilities. In this scenario, the Starks would be actually aligned with potentially a startlingly sympathetic vsn of the walkers - "winter is coming" becomes a battle to more than a threat. Would this make Dany the BAD guy? Seeking to disrupt a potentially earlier negotiated status quo that men have long forgotten? (Cont)
@Ela.elizabeth
@Ela.elizabeth 8 жыл бұрын
(Cont) - So is the "song of ice and fire" actually ice VS fire? Or could we see another negotiated peace, a repetition of an ever-looping timeline - and potentially a marriage of Jon & Dani - their union being the song of ice and fire? ALSO: Your thoughts on Tyrion's parentage? I assume you are privy to the theory that he's half targ., hence all the "you're not my son" business. I think you guys actually mentioned this in a previous Ep. Well... What if CERSEI & JAIME are the other two heads of the dragon? What if Tyrion WAS his father's son, but the other two were not Tywin's kids? It's heavily foreshadowed (incest, blonde hair, etc.,); If so - do you think this furthers the concept of Dani / Targ as the "villain", threatening an ages-long peace treaty (if there is one of course) with magic that could ruin the world for everyone? So could the walkers actually be the wronged party, doing what they must for their for survival, all of this coming about because of MAN'S oath breaking?
@Ela.elizabeth
@Ela.elizabeth 8 жыл бұрын
...Or am I just full of shit??? 😂😂😂 I think you guys should do a follow up video, less formal, but a Q&A from the comments/social media with general story questions & new questions arising from your theories! :D
@EricKlien
@EricKlien 8 жыл бұрын
"Or am I just full of shit??? 😂😂😂" Your theories are shared by others so they are reasonable. I don't think Tyrion is a Targaryen because the show went out of its way to say the dragons had treated non-Targaryens such as Missandei well. Cersei and Jaime can't be the other two heads of the dragon as the full prophecy (in the books) is that Cersei's children will die before her and then her younger brother will kill her. So Cersei will likely die before the big battle at the end of the series. (Both Jaime and Tyrion are younger than her. Jaime being only a few minutes younger than her is most likely to be her killer as that is a better twist.)
@Ela.elizabeth
@Ela.elizabeth 8 жыл бұрын
+Eric Klien - Good points all. I guess it depends a lot on whether all actions & fates within the GoT universe are actually predestined, or if people can break free from this mold and make their own destinies / choices. I mean - with oath-breaking being such a big deal - it would seem quite absurd for this to be frowned upon by the Gods if they in fact took away free will in these terms. Perhaps fate loops, but only for some characters? It seems like GRRM loves setting up our expectations and then completely diverging from them. I don't think the witch's predictions necessarily have to ALL be literal. We've seen the "rebirth" of Dany in the flames, figuratively - wouldn't it make sense that GRRM might add twists by making some of these losses/deaths figurative? Ie: Tommen decides (for whatever reason) to banish his mother, maybe bc of Margery. That would equal both the "death" of their relationship, and the "death" of her power, status, etc. I don't think we can say "for sure" yet.

Perhaps Bran went back in time to communicate with Benjin at some point and tell him they needed help. Benjin gets this message some time during his expedition 5 years ago and goes rogue until this point in time where those cries for help are actually coming through.

That's what I thought. Bran is still stuck in his vision in Winterfell. Maybe he tells young Benjen to join the NW, so he can later command him to go north and rescue him and Meera.
@ProfessorButts
@ProfessorButts 8 жыл бұрын
TreuloseTomate Yeah true? Because no one really knows why he joined the nights watch. There are theories that it's because he knew about Lyanna and Rhaegar and the guilt of keeping that a secret when it lead to a world war is what drove him to the wall. If we're talking time travel now though, with a character that's been missing for so long with a veil of mystery around him, it can't be out of the question. I find it incredibly interesting that Bran is still in the tree vision even now that he's not touching it. Very strange.

Ironic too that the Children of the Forest wrecked the man's human heart, but left his brain intact, now fired by magical energy from the spellbound obsidian blade. the actor who play Hodor has stated that Hodor was not warged into when he died and past Hodor only showed signs of being warged into long after present Hodor was already dragging Bran to the door, so there must have been a switch midway through - anyways at least in the show Hodor was not sacrificed but instead sacrificed himsel

You have one detail backwards. When Bran is in the past he subconsciously wargs into future Hodor first, not Willis. Since he is unaware of the extent of his green-sight powers he makes the mistake of locking eyes with Willis. That is when the short circuit happens and he wargs into Willis as WELL as future Hodor.
@twentyarms
@twentyarms 8 жыл бұрын
Altshiftx's theory was that Bran just implants the suggestion into past Hodor, kind of like placing a command into someone under deep hypnosis to be carried out in the future, the intensity of which breaks Hodor's mind. For the rest of his life he can only talk about this one thing he's been fated to do. Makes sense to me.
@BellewTheBear
@BellewTheBear 8 жыл бұрын
I assumed that the short circuit happened because Bran was still inside the past vision (Which he can only see through the Raven) when the Raven was killed. The Raven said, "Leave me..." and was cut down moments later. I think all would have been well had the Raven not been cut down mid-warg.

Watching this, I thought "The Door" was a reference to a different concept - a concept of important characters crossing "the door" between important stages of their journey, all of them not being entirely ready for what awaits them. Remember, this episode: 1) Bran leaves the Warewood Tree; 2) Sansa and John leaving the wall; 3) Daenerys leaving Vaes Dothrak; 4) Arya completing her training to be given her second mission.

I'm wondering if Hodor's paralysis/catatonia in the cave was because he knew that his time had come. This does not take away from his courage, because when he does actually hold the door he is *NOT* in the warg trance. His eyes are completely clear. He knows what he is doing and does it of his own free will. I think that's important. I don't think Wyllis loses his mind, but instead becomes (as his speach suggests) completely clear about and focused on his purpose in life. You can refuse to fulfill your purpose. Hodor does not.

I think he has the Blood of the Dragon and thats why they give us that story in season 2 in the first place, the same time they showed us what kings blood does with Roberts bastard. Also that's why he keeps a bald head.

In the show, it was definitely Jeoffrey. There was a scene where Tyrion scolded Cersei about the killings, and by the look of her, he realized it was all Jeoffrey's doing, without even telling his mother.
@LuchoVena
@LuchoVena 8 жыл бұрын
it was Cersei, through Joffrey or not, coz Joffrey still believes he's a Baratheon and Cerei knows that its not the true, so a Bastard Baratheon would have more claim to the throne than a Lannister would. Joffrey believing himself a Baratheon would not be afraid at all of any Robert's bastards because he has the claim to rule, not them.

What the host explained(most of youtubers or reddit people thinks this way) might seem to be legit because it sounds easy to follow, but time traveling theory is never that simple in real life physics. I know most of people are believing that one time line theory is what is taking place in Game of Thrones, however there is a simple basic irony there. In the one time line theory, future cannot exist without a past. There has to be a very first train. What I mean by this is There has to be a point or moment where Wylis(Hodor) was not brain-fcked because Bran was not even born. Bran cannot exist because there has to be the first time point(The first train) where Wylis lived a normal life without getting brain-fcked. Bran coming to past can only happen when the first train has reached to the point to EP5 check-point.
@telecast712
@telecast712 8 жыл бұрын
Simply saying. The World that Game of Thrones is showing to audience is the time line AFTER the first time line was reached to the end or certain point, and then some mutation happening(Bran time traveling) in some of the pasts. That is what Game of Thrones is taking place in. You have to put this way to explain "Bran really did not change anything, it was already done in the future." There has to be a first time line without the mutation.
@telecast712
@telecast712 8 жыл бұрын
Maybe the first train's destination was the end of human race by the White Walkers. And people who know that destiny are trying to change that conclusion by some sorcerey(Red magic or Time traveling). That explains leaf's sacrifice because the Children of Forest know that by their fault, the whole world became a cold winter dominated by the White Walkers in the end. This theory also explains the whole thing about prophecy for those promised ones who will save the world. They are "set up" to save the world because without such things, the world will fall in the end. So Game of Thrones is about those sorceres trying to change the fate of White Walkers dominating the whole world. To stop the end of human race that has already happend in the first time train.

Not true. As a believer that they're going for a one time line setup: In a one time line setup, I assume that the future isn't always caused by the past. The future can cause the past, because from a 4th dimensional perspective everything already IS, time is only humans' perception of the 4th dimension. In this case, there's no need for a first train as long as everything works out in the end. Your English is very adequate. "thinks" should have been "think", one person thinks while multiple people think. Also, should be "Bran coming to THE past"

"The Door" is a double meaning, cause not only did it obviously involve a door, but the mark on Bran is "the door" to areas which were originally out of reach to the white walkers. Including through the wall!

It's interesting to note that this and the first time he meets Bran is the only time he uses Brans full name. It's also interesting to note that Margery doesn't have all her hair cut off like Cersei, and she looks clean and well kept. She might bluff taking up the faith as the Tyrell army saves her.

No need to have to "go easy on you" man! This was a great video! *My takes on the questions (end of video)* *Question 1*: What happens with Brans power now? Bran is now both the time-travelling three-eyed raven AND a warg who can take control of people's minds. This mix is what makes the "Hold-the-door"-event possible IMO. It seems highly likely that Bran will make a similarly big change on the past, and I am intrigued by the idea of him being Bran the Builder because of Bran's knowledge of what is to come, the descriptions of Bran the Builder, his understanding of the dangers of the White Walkers and more. *It is in this sense possible that he actually **_becomes the FIRST three-eyed-raven_* to make sure the loop continues. *Question 2*: Will Bran be hunted forever? I think yes and no. In a strange mix of time travelling and warging I think his current body will perhaps be killed, but that he will manage to transfer his mind to a past person (Bran the builder?), or an animal of importance (Nymeria?). *I think we might just see the death of Bran's **_present_** corporeal body.* *Question 3*: Should Sansa have refused Littlefinger's help? @Medimentos "I sincerely think that Jon will come very close to losing the battle against Ramsay, and then Baelish will come with the Knights of the Vale and save the day." I totally agree! I think there will be some kind of twist here, though. Littlefinger rarely does anything for anyone without gaining from it. *A somewhat thin theory of mine is that Sansa actually manipulated Littlefinger* in the scene in the barn, and is now guilt-tripping him to help her without asking him directly. If she asks him directly, he holds a psychological advantage, and she will likely be in his debt. The other possibility, therefore, is that she feigns an angry, guilt tripping fit in order for Littlefinger to feel like he owes her back from what happened. Enter the Knights of the Vale. This tactic might work for Sansa (and Cat) alone as Littlefinger cares for her. *Question 4*: Should Sansa have lied to Jon snow and the others? Like the video suggested I think she purposefully avoids telling people about Littlefinger. However, the reason *I think she does this is because she knows Jon will not approve of manipulative play*. She is turning into Littlefinger, people. She will be the Stark family's "player" - the one who actually knows how to play the Game of Thrones, which I think we all know will come later on.

Awesome review/breakdown! Great job Erik! I'd love to see you do a few more of these, perhaps along side Philip? Anyway, Is it possible that the Three Eyed Raven is the one who actually warged into Hodor as he died, causing Hodor's seizure? If you recall, Veremir Sixskins attempted to warg into Thistle (in the books), which resulted in Thistle having a pretty violent seizure. Hodor has never had a violent reaction to Bran warging into him before, so perhaps this is why? Hodor experienced not only his future death, but the death of the Three Eyed Raven, as he entered his body? Bran was told to "listen to your friend," but it looked like Bran was just kinda standing there in shock. Or, did Bran warg into Hodor, & then the Three Eyed Raven warg into him as well, hitting Hodor with a double wammy, causing the seizure? Or maybe the importance of him needing to "Hold The Door" was so strong that as he experienced all of this, it was the only tangible thing he could hold onto in order to retain his sanity? Sorry, that was like 20 questions. Its just that as amazing & heartbreaking a reveal as it was, the whole Hodor thing raises more questions than it answered, for me. Your thoughts?

The White Walker created by the Children is most probably the Night King, since he's played by the same actor, Vladimír Furdík, who is an actor AND a stunt performer - he did the stunt work for the second Targaryen soldier in the ToJ scene btw. What is more interesting though - are we going to get some fight scenes with the Night King? They've recast him, he used to be portrayed by Richard Brake, so there must be a reason for it. I can't wait to see how that turns out...
