It's so heavy handed though they repeat about 8 times things about what nice lovely chaps they all are. The show originally stressed how horrible war was, how soliders did unspeakable things when ransacking a city or after plunder and treasure. The soliders were not Knights in shinning armour, the show was being honest and realistic about the kind of times it wanted to potray. Secondly the scene is largely spoilt by having a famous pop star in it which just feels like one of those moments in Batman the TV show where a famous guest star pops up for no real reason.
@__Andrew9 ай бұрын
@@lw3646 Bro there was plenty of "heavy handed" moments in the show too. Sometimes it had to be. Heck half the exposition in the series was done through sex scene pillow talk lol. In the book you can humanize the average solider better. When household guards of the Starks die we have had little insights into who they were, so we feel sorry for Fat Tom when he dies. The show did almost none of this before this scene about who was actually doing the fighting. Even Jory's death didnt feel as heavy as it should have and did in the books. The argument too that "well there was a famous pop star in it" like, ignore it lol. His character in the show was fine. Its not really that more distracting than "YARP" from Hot Fuzz being The Hound or anything similar. If he's acting was horrible you'd have an argument but i watched this with people who did not know who Ed Sheeran was and enjoyed the scene a lot.

Arya's face when a soldier says, "my father would be alone and I ought to be with him", and when another says," Girls take care of their Papas when they grow old". It's evident she thinks of Ned and how much she wishes he was alive. This is a heartwarming moment for Arya, seeing genuinely good people after a long time. But it's also sad to know she neither has her loving father nor has seen her family in a long time. Well done, Maisie!

Arya is so associated with the stranger throughout the series that I can't help but think of the Lannister soldier offering kindness to a stranger (Arya) as him offering kindness to death, and perhaps in turn death will be kind to him on the battlefield, sparing him when next they meet. Also, how does she always end up getting the best road food in the seven kingdoms?! I really enjoy the bit where Arya questions the soldier about why he would prefer his newborn baby to be a girl. She wasn't raised observing the values of the small folk, but rather observing the nobility, their preference for sons and their dire need for heirs. It's probably quite the culture shock to her to imagine that someone would prefer to have a daughter.

I remember hearing that Ed Sheeran was going to be on the show. I was like, "Okay, that's cool, I guess... I mean, I don't really know too much about him." Then time goes by, I forget about it, and I watch the episode. I observe Arya interacting with Lannister soldiers and notice that she is beginning to see them not as targets but as humans. This reminded me of the Lady Crane arc from last season. After the episode, people begin talking about Ed Sheeran again. At which point I think, "Oh, that was his scene?" Then people begin acting like the scene was out of place. I personally hadn't gotten that impression. I have seen comments like "This was the worst scene" or "Why didn't Arya kill them? She's getting weak... the show is ruined," etc. Personally, however, I enjoyed the scene. My greatest fear for Arya has always been that she will lose herself and become a bloodthirsty killer with no remorse. I have always believed her to have a compassionate heart alongside her fierce vengeful spirit. Compassion is not weakness. Arya's first scene in this episode primarily demonstrated the latter, while this second scene primarily demonstrated the former. The men of House Frey were directly responsible for the Red Wedding, and thus winter came for them all. There is nothing to suggest, however, that these Lannister soldiers had any part in the death of a Stark. The women of House Frey were spared as they were not responsible for the Red Wedding. Cersei Lannister is very clearly still on the list for all she has done to the Starks. So no, Arya has not gone weak. Neither is Jon for calling upon Ned Umber and Alys Karstark for fidelity rather than banishing them from their castles for the sins of their fathers. They are picking their battles and realizing who their enemies really are. Here endeth the lesson.

So far the faith of the seven is shown as a false religion as it doesn't have any physical evidence, unlike the Red God, the drowned God, the many faced God etc who all have physical evidences. But in a classic GRRM twist, it might be revealed in the end that it is the faith of the seven which is the one true religion and the others faiths are just a bunch of blood magic rituals and trickery. The seven Gods have reincarnated in the form of humans, like Jon, Sansa, Arya, Melisandre, Jaime etc to defeat the white walkers. So even though it is ridiculed as a fake religion, in the end it will be revealed to be the true religion. This is something I expect GRRM to come up with.

The great thing about GoT is that you can't really pigeonhole one side as "villains". If this show started off with the Lannister family instead of Starks, we'd be rooting for them instead. Or if you only read/watch from Daenerys' perspective, Baratheons & Starks are the evil ones too. That's the beauty of GoT, everyone's the hero in their own eyes.

The Frey's deserved their lot, but in this scene, Arya sees the humanity in her enemies, and that they all aren't evil. The scene was a nice way of contrasting the opening Frey scene. It shows that even though Arya has become a ruthless killer, she still has a human side. She wanted revenge and killed every male Frey, even those not involved in the red wedding. But she spares the Lannister soldiers because she sees them as normal people dragged into a war they wanted no part in. That being said, I would have preferred if Ed Sheeran wasn't in the seen. He sticks out like a sore thumb and draws most of the audience's focus. It felt almost like a parody from an awards show.

It was a good scene, but I think for a lot of the people the problem was that they didn't even try to make Ed Sheeran look like a GoT character, but instead had him be just Ed Sheeran. Hair style, body language, facial expression, all looked like he came straight out of a talk show and just put on a Lannister armor. It was very confusing and took you out of the moment. It was badly executed and the blame is naturally on the show creators, not Ed Sheeran.

I think this scene and the fact that she reunites with Nymeria in the next episode (based on the preview) is what actually makes her change her mind and go back to Winterfell. Arya, and the watcher, is weary to trust the Lannister soldiers but they are simply following their lords and bear no ill will. Sheeran didn't break my immersion because his acting was decent but that might be because I don't follow him. Also it'd be interesting to see them killed by Nymeria and how Arya reacts to that.
@dd4re3237 жыл бұрын
His acting wasn't decent, he literally stared at Arya and it felt very forced since it was a cameo.

I don't see why people got upset by this. I was a little confused seeing him there but it didn't ruin anything. It was just unexpected.
@sof95467 жыл бұрын
I think the main reason is that it broke the flow of the show by taking you out of the GoT world, and so the viewing experience wasn't as immersive. I felt like that too because the cameo wasn't subtle at all. I'm personally not upset, but I just reckon they could have done without it :)
@maershkinschrabs75977 жыл бұрын
but at the same time, no actors of the show are in the westeros universe they also live on earth where you see them in heaps of other cringey corny hollywood movies. it was good to see sheeran in this.
@emanueljuandavid88217 жыл бұрын
Maershkin Schrabs But they are dressed as such characters unlike Ed Sheeran who not only can't act for a penny but also hasn't done so before and therefore can only be connected to Ed Sheeran and not a shitty wannabe GoT character. You know, a character is A character for the sake of disconnecting the real actor behind them. That's what acting in this series is about since its picturing a far different world than ours.

Sof S i personally enjoyed his cameo as the singing of the soldiers gave more life to the characters that would otherwise be bland and dull.

Kalethekill I had no idea who he was, and the scene felt very fitting for Arya. It was nice to see her meet some people her own age again and be young just a little longer. As for Ed Sheeran, he didn't stand out to me at all. His performance felt believable. He was just kinda laid back, a little drunk and pretending to be casual with a the first girl he's seen in awhile sitting beside him.
@flightofthebumblebee9529 Жыл бұрын
This scene is actually great. She hated Lannisters for so long she never realized many of their soldiers were just young men with lives and consciences. They were even singing a NEW song, not the same old Lannister theme that her brother heart upon his death. This scene gives hope.

I love this scene. It shows the truth that for 99.9% of the people living in Westeros want peace and don't care about the plots of nobles. So often we see Lannister soilders and think they share the values of that family but the truth is they aren't, they're just normal people. I also love Arya in this scene because its the first time she's smiled and laughed since season 1. She's around good people and is able to be the old Arya again even if only for a moment.

Why are people complaining about this? If you don't know who he is, or it was just some other unknown actor playing that character, you wouldn't have complained. Plus, the show has had the drummer from Coldplay in the Red Wedding episode, and the band Of Monsters and Men in the episode where Arya is watching the play about the Purple Wedding, and nobody complained about those two cameos. Also, Ed had like two lines of dialogue, and he didn't really steal the scene even remotely.

because this guy was more well known i guess? i dont know... most i can gleam out of people was "its too distracting on a important scene we need for arya and showing how every soldier are"... like apparently them knowing hes a musician somehow made them unable to pay attention. my question is if thats the case... how come when any of the other celeb makes an appreance as a small character they dont get similarly distracted....i mean shit donald glover is a musician and people dont get distracted seeing him acting.

I love this scene, it shows that the Lannister men aren't just bloodthirsty and greedy.
I enjoyed this whole scene. Not because of Ed's presence or because of any value to the story...but rather because it was refreshing, for a moment, for a main character to encounter a group of people who weren't out to kill them or cause trouble. It was just a group of good hearted, decent lads who shared some food and wine with a girl traveling alone. Even tho mean hearted people are the key to any adventure story, as I said, it was kewl to see there are kind and friendly people there as well. Kinda makes the environment a little more believable.
