Besides getting Winterfell back (also sorta getting Rickon killed in the process) -Why no one else declared independent for themselves. Why didn't the Iron lslands (didn't bring up that Daenerys gave them independents) or Dorne (who mostly stayed out of all conflicts with the War of the 5 kings) Storm lands, Riverlands. -Why did they make Ayra go West of Westeros when she was trying to get back to her family and only mention it once that she wanted to find out. The only reason she didn't kill Cersei was cause Hot Pie told her that the Starks where back in power.

Guisseppe Imbriago For one, what was the big hype about the dead and the Night King to be killed so easily by Arya? What is behind the 3 eyed Raven who has been hated by the Night King for Centuries? Although there were signs of Dany’s character, how did she become Hitleresque so quickly? There were a lot of things that could have been told in a better way, even with small tweeks

@LadyhawksLairDotCom5 жыл бұрын
@@raym2243 You're right. Jon didn't do anything that made the secret Targaryen thing pay off. It was used as a gimmick to make Dany go "mad queen." It was the Stark side of Jon that turned him into a Queenslayer, although I couldn't buy into that plot line without more character development. Too bad Jaime died. He and Jon could have hung out at the wall. Jaime: "I stabbed Aerys Targaryen, the mad king, in the back and then slit his throat to save the people of King's Landing. I killed a king and was slandered as 'kingslayer' for years and years. I did all that to save the people I said I didn't care about during season 8." Jon Snow: "Daeynerys Targaryen finished what her father started. I didn't really want to kill her...OK, who am I kidding? People were supposed to think we were in love. I thought if I repeated, "You're my queen" enough times people would buy it, but no. The truth is, we really couldn't stand one another. Our online chemistry sucked. I was frankly relieved when I was advised to do her in. I used a dagger to stab her from under the ribcage into the heart...and that damn dragon flew off with it. It was my favorite dagger. I didn't want to be Lord Commander. I didn't want to be King in the North. I didn't want the Iron Throne. I didn't want Ghost...until I got exiled. But, damn. I really loved that dagger."

RAY M Then for you JON=show. Then u are one of the stupid people that would be satisfied with any horrible ending if Jon is becoming the king as a result and unsatisfied with any good and logical ending that would end up with Jon not becoming the king.
@LadyhawksLairDotCom5 жыл бұрын
@@retriarius845 He didn't say that. The major character arc for Jon fizzled. The fact he was Aegon Targaryen was used as a gimmick to justify the abrupt transformation of Dany into the mad queen. Then he was used to eliminate that threat. All of the characters were used to get to a certain end with no regard for character development. They were there to serve the plot and the action, not the other way around. Of course it was gonna suck. Of course Jon Snow looked lame. So did everyone else. Jon didn't have to become the king. All that was necessary was some kind of logical ending to his story and _that_ would have made him a badass. During the last two _Avengers_ movies, the action and plot were driven by the characters, not the other way around. And it worked. While the MCU stuck its landing, GoT stumbled into a fiery moat, but didn't do us the courtesty of burning up like a wight. It writhed in agony like Little Lord Umber for six entire episodes. Ugh. But it ended how it ended. There's nothing anyone can do about it. I am thinking about canceling HBO because GoT was the only show I was watching. I kind of wanted to finish _Westworld_ and watch _Deadwood_ . The trailers for _Chernobyl_ look good, but I'm not currently streaming anything on HBO. It might be a good time to cut ties.

@@reshpeck this sounds like speculative apologetics. tbf, i don't have any confirmed facts either, but i'm pretty sure most of the cast would've been alright signing on for 3 more seasons as long as their pay went up. meanwhile, i don't think HBO would have any huge problems with the cost going up for hiring main cast. HBO had been pretty accommodating with their flagship series for >7 years already. most of the cast also have strong attachment to their characters and were fully invested in the series. as for dothraki horses, these were only needed in a bunch of close up shots; every other long shot could've used cg. "if anyone has a better idea" - literally every major youtuber had a better idea. as for logistics budget, that's something they should be able to figure out as showrunners. defaulting to "logistics/budget" is just a weak excuse imo. you can do without the dothraki and the show would still have gotten shit reviews, that wasn't the only problem. you could've gotten double the budget and had elephants and ice spiders; that doesn't make arya ex machina any less bad. don't strawman the criticism. don't pretend that "logistics/budget" explains away the myriad problems with s8. seasons 5-7 were also riddled with plotting problems, but none were at the horrid scale of s8.
@hoichingchan82025 жыл бұрын
Reshpeck thanks. I’ve been thinking the same thing. It is a bit nonsensical for people to blame D and D but at the same time not putting any blame on the cast or crew, as if it wasn’t a collective decision. The cast has renegotiated their salaries TWICE throughout this series to this point where the tier 1 actors have been getting a whopping 1 million per season. There can be expected an astronomical increase once this pasts 7 seasons. Apart from the costs that make it difficult to continue the show, the crew also wants to get on with their lives, it’s not just d and d.
@reshpeck5 жыл бұрын
@@alveolate Arya ex Machina bad? That was hands down the best moment of the entire series. In my opinion, of course, but it goes to show that we don't all agree one what was or wasn't a good decision. I almost cried with joy at her emerging from the darkness; it was the perfect culmination of my favorite character's entire arc. "That's the show runners job to figure it out." Exactly, and that's what they did. I don't care how great a story idea was, if it didn't work within the budget and time constraints then it doesn't happen. End of story. By the way, the budget was reduced for the final season. Not per episode, that went up. But the total budget for the last season was $90 million. That's less than the first season got. Granted, each episode's budget was upped by 50%, but the top 5 cast members alone had their pay increased to $3,000,000 EACH. The next five, including Bran, Sansa, Arya, were paid over a million each. Never mind what the dozen or so lesser characters got paid. You think Misandei, or Grey Worm, or the Hound, or Jorah, or Samwell, or any of the others were easily replaced? It was an enormous increase over the previous season and as a result, a much larger percentage of the total budget. Trust me, Weiss and Benioff were forced to cut massive corners. But did they blame anyone? Did they blame HBO? Did they blame Martin for leaving? No. But everyone is blaming them and it doesn't seem like anyone is standing up for them. And don't discount an actor's desire to move on. Most of them (the younger ones especially) think of themselves as artists. They all have so much more money than they ever dreamed of, and they were certainly turning down roles left and right because of their obligation to this show, roles they wanted but couldn't accept. Yes, some of them have taken other work, and almost all of it high-paying garbage. Emilia Clarke in The Terminator Genesys crap. Kit Harrington in that, whatever it was. Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, which wasn't so bad. Alfie Allen was in John Wick but it was a shit role. But I guarantee you that many of the actors were offered roles in terrific films but it was only these big powerhouse film studios that were able to negotiate with HBO a shoot schedule that didn't conflict. You think if Wes Anderson or the Coen Brothers wanted to cast Maise Williams in one of their films it would have happened? I estimate that about 20% of the final season's budget went to actors, and none of them - and by "them" I really mean their representation: agents, managers, publicists, etc., who insisted on the big money roles in (mostly) shit Hollywood films - were willing to sign to anything more than another season. Renegotiations each subsequent season. And HBO was not willing to commit to anything more. "Five million to Lena Heady and no guarantee that she'll return after?" They knew their golden goose was gone (Martin), and they've got this great story floating out there that they were willing to finance ten seasons of ten episodes each. And everyone believes it! Right. The suits at HBO wanted to keep writing a blank check and it was the show's creators who turned it down. That makes sense. And you know what? It seems that everyone, including Weiss and Benioff, are happy to let Weiss and Benioff take all the heat. I sure hope they rejuvenate Star Wars, because if they fail there, no one will care about their sacrifice.
@reshpeck5 жыл бұрын
@@hoichingchan8202 Not $1 million. Triple that! And it was a lot more than just those five actors getting such massive raises. I go into some detail about the actor's salaries and how that certainly had more to do with the show being reduced in my post above. Something I didn't mention is how it wouldn't really be possible to only increase one actor's pay because that actor wants to leave. If Kit Harrington is anxious to leave and HBO is willing to pay him $5 million a season to keep him, then they are going to have to pay Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage and the rest a similar rate. It's a very complicated process and when a bunch of actors who are vital to a show and not under contract, the risks become astronomical.

l love your ending too. Especially if we had 10 season to do this. This is my ending, assuming we still only have 8 seasons… 1. Starting with the Long Night Episode. Make key characters with Valyrian weapons face WW’s. Make the battle start to feel like they might just win, but when The NK lands, he resurrects all the dead good guys to his side. Hopelessness. Arya attempts to take him out, fails… but this creates an opening for Jon who finishes the job. 2. Dany didn’t know she was pregnant, miscarries from injuries in the battle. Makes long night victory bitter sweet. 3. More realistic death count on Unsullied and Dothraki. Makes Dany’s forces less equipped to take on Cercei. Really build up the idea that she’s come so close but she feels it slipping away. 4. Dany’s desperation and rushing the plans lead to losing Rhaegal and Missandei (similar to the show) but with more believability with how Euron just shows up. 5. Dany still burns King’s Landing, but sell the moment. Play the flashbacks we’re all familiar with -- “Kill them all!” “A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing.” Quick shots of her losses: her dragons, Missandei, her child, etc etc etc. 6. REVEAL one Scorpion left. Even though the bells have rung in surrender, Cercei orders one last shot. Comes close. Maybe even injures Drogon. This triggers Dany to go over the edge. 7. Cercei’s last act drives Jaime over the edge too. He was there to save her, now she’s doomed them both. This leads to a more tragic and satisfactory death for Cercei at the hands of Jaime. 8. Dany gives similar speech to her remaining forces. Jon still kills Dany in similar fashion. 9. The trial is not just for Tyrion but for Jon too. Jon claims his rightful name and demands trial by combat. 10. Aegon (Jon) defeats Grey Worm, shows him mercy. Declares mercy is what breaks the wheel. Sends the Unsullied and Dothraki back East to honor that message. 11. Aegon abdicates the throne, decides he wants to be free, with the free folk and Ghost. 12. Last parting order by Aegon: form a council. Rule as a group. The wheel is broken. 13. Jon doesn’t just pet Ghost, he gives him nosies… and sincerely apologizes for being the worst pet owner ever. THE END

The pacing was the biggest problem for me BY FAR in the final season. I was trying to figure out why the pacing felt so off and ended up plugging the 8 seasons of Game of Thrones into a 3 act narrative story arc and realized that act 3 (from act 2 climax (battle of winterfell) through the act 3 climax (battle of kings landing) and through the denouement to the conclusion was only about 15% as long as it should have been according to the pacing standards they set in earlier seasons. It’s kind of hard to explain in text, but I included the diagram I made and my explanation in a video I posted on my channel today. They should have made this change: The Night King is looking at Bran. We hear Ghost howl in the distance, Nymeria responds. Then the superpack charges from the forest. In the chaos, Arya is able to actually plausibly creep up to the Night King and kill him. A nice bow on the direwolf arc!

Yesss, Charlie! I love your ending. It 100% makes more sense for Dany to lose something like another baby AS WELL as Jorah, Missandei, Viserion, Rhaegal, and her trust in all her advisors including Jon for her to slowly decline into mad Queen mode. I feel like what also would have worked is some sort of scene where Dany is in contact with people or a person from Kings Landing and one spits at her or shouts out an insult, just to further push that sense that there is no love here for her. Much in comparison to the love she was given in Slaver's Bay. Then she will feel more driven to rule by fear instead. It is also more realistic for Jon to sneak away and self-exile. If Jon has actually gone up and confessed what he did to Grey Worm or any of the Unsullied & Dothraki, they would have killed him on the spot.

For everyone that watched the doc tonight can we just give it up for the crew. They spent months away from their families to bring us this show. They all delivered at the absolute highest level possible. D&Ds writing problems don't take away from the amazing acting, visual effects, stunt work, costumes, and just everything else that this amazing crew accomplished.

Daenerys is not mad, she was manipulated by betrayal and isolation. Dragon answers the call of Lord of Light and carries her to the east of Essos where she is resurrected by red priests/priestesses. For the fire is manifestation of Lord of Light and she is literal bearer of fire, along with her merciful nature, she is hailed Chosen Queen, Christ like figure. There she rules and protects people receiving full respects her good nature always deserves. Meanwhile Westeros goes silent docile totalitarian state where everyone is monitored and manipulated by three-eyed raven king.

#OscarDaggberg Sansa have easily 3 kingdoms at her disposal: the north, the vale(swore their loyalty ), and Riverlands due to family ties: Edmure Tully. (don't forget house Tully Motto: "family duty honor" ) so bran will have a hard time in any event of WAR!

I do not feel like the ending was as bad as some people think. I think it was always supposed to be this way. I just feel that people are pissed because it wasn't a well explained story with so many unanswered questions and theories that aren't answered in the final season. If it had a been done the way the rest of the other seasons were people would have loved it.
@matthewstephens78575 жыл бұрын
That's literally the biggest problem people have. I've seen very few people saying they would have been mad about the ending specifically, everyone is mad because it was rushed and the plot wasn't driven forward, it was just dropped on us with no build up or explanation for different stuff. If they did the same ending, but fleshed out to where it made sense (probably 9 or 10 full seasons), I and many others would have been satisfied. What I'm saying is I don't care what the ending is, if it makes sense and the plot isn't quickly switched up to surprise you.

Wow, you catch on quickly, don’t you? That’s literally the ONLY issue we all have with the season.

@@iriswaldenburger2315 Wow, you might be right. Literally. What I am saying and im done with talking about this now. Is that I have had many other people give me the way they would have ended the show. Or better yet How It Should Have Ended is the most used wording. That was my point.

Charlie, you're amazing. I've watched all of your GOT videos and you're so clear and smart about the things you share and it helps SO much in understanding the material. Thank you! I know you might be done doing videos, but I have a question: WHY didn't HBO just replace Dave and Dan for the final seasons that Martin wanted to do to complete his story properly? The show was making money, they could have taken their time, so I don't get it. Was there some kind of crazy contract? I only ask because Dr. Who changes their show-runners pretty regularly, and I feel like that's what needed to happen to do GOT and Martin justice. I know I don't know anything about D&D personal lives, but it seems silly to sacrifice the integrity of the story because they wanted to do something else. Do you have any guesses/thoughts??

Love you channel, can’t wait for Westworld and really hope you give us a trailer breakdown of what/when/where we are in that trailer with Aaron Paul. Here's my fan fiction: I'd keep Arya killing the white king. Then I'd have Arya killing Drogon. Then Arya sneak to Cercei and killing her. After this shocker I'd have Arya killing Daenerys, preferably have Arya jumping from nowhere and stabbing her. Then I'd have Arya killing Hound and his brother. Arya then kill Yara because she threatened Snow. After that Tyrion will say: Who has a better story then Arya? and then Arya kill him. Arya then end up on the iron throne.
