My local camera store guy that I've been shopping with for over twenty years told me that the reason we are seeing cheaper lenses now is because they are building these lenses using computers now, from design to build. So they can build perfect lenses, build classic styles/looks to lenses, basically do whatever they'd like with minimal difference or defect.

For me, it wasn't Sigma but Tamron who lost the cheaper 3rd party lens buy... I needed a wider angle lens with good aperture and ended up buying a Viltrox 20mm f/2.8 instead of the Tamron 20mm f/2.8... Barrel distortion and chromatic aberration is the biggest turn off for me but the price was the deciding factor...

I am a Tamron zoom owner. I bought the Tamron 35mm f2.8 just to have a light lens for walk around and also its 1:2 macro capability. I sent the lens back after trying it for 5 minutes. The focus was horrible. It refused to lock focus most of the time. I have never experienced anything like it from any manufacturer, let alone Tamron. My Tamrons zooms are fantastic. Someone on FredMirandsa was selling a Viltorx 20mm f2.8 for $100 so I decided to get it just for fun. I am beyond impressed with that lens. Focus is fast and sure footed. And the image quality is in the pro category, even wide open. Tamron wants $250 for the same lens and based on my bad experience with the 35mm f2.8 Tamron, I would not consider the Tamron 20mm.

While these resources are valuable for understanding the equipment, it is a bit of a shame that there is less content dedicated to analyzing the photos themselves. After all, beyond the technique, the essence of photography lies in the final image created. It would be really enriching to see more videos that teach us to better understand and analyze photos, to discover the secrets of composition, light and emotion captured.

@@markwiemels You only buy the lens once, so it's better to pay extra and have f/1.4 with fast AF than to save a little. If someone wants Viltrox, the 27 and 75mm f/1.2 are phenomenal, worth every penny. Viltrox should expand their portfolio with f/1.2 lenses instead of wasting time on some f/1.8 especially since Sigma offers f/1.4. Viltrox should work on e.g. 56mm f/1.2. If someone has cameras like Sony A6100, A6300, A6400, A6500, A6600, A6700, they will not waste money on worse lenses because Sigma is not expensive.
@markwiemels17 күн бұрын
@ your logic is reasonable, but everyone has different budgets and requirements. There is a big difference between $125 for the TT and $300 for the Sigma, for many people this is very important. The better distortion correction, of the cheaper lenses, is another big one for some Fuji shooters. In real most world results you will struggle to tell them all apart. I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them, it’s just great that we have so many options now.

Sigma Contemporary series lenses may seem like they’re built better, but they just look and feel that way. There are only three very small screws put into plastic holding the front and rear sections together. They strip out very easily if they take an impact. Wanted something a bit smaller/lighter for family outings as I’ve found the limits of light at f2.8. But f2.8 is definitely still do able just not ideal hoping to get a bit more bokeh as well. Considering I could’ve just got the sigma 30 for like what is it 280$? I got 2 primes. Hoping I don’t regret it. All though the viltrox 75f1.2 may also come in the near future as a dedicated portrait lens. We’ll see how much I like these. Edit* I got both today. Tiny and very nice for when you don’t want to bring a big lens around. Compared to my tamron I noticed 0 difference in sharpness pixel peeping. What I did notice though is the bokeh is absolutely 10/10 for a lens in this price range. First one I used was the 35mm and it’s just a great lens guys. I was skeptical because of the price. Now I’m questioning why I spent so much on the tamron albeit it definitely still has its purpose I think these primes are much better for portraits and casual photo taking. Cannot recommend enough.

for me my interest on viltrox or Sigma wbe on their lab and art series. Lab 135mm f1.8 has really tick my interest in viltrox so i will be interest in their upcoming lab series. Sigma has somehow became stagnated with their full frame prime lenses, .I like to see Sigma replacing 28mn , 40mm 105mm and 135mm in coming two year's.

I would hope that they will make some fast zooms for the MFT system. And a merry christmas to all.

i remember using these sigma lenses years ago. The 16 f/1.4 was such a gem. Now I have an entire set of G Masters and those tiny sigmas surely helped me grow

Thanks, I just checked, it’s because it’s currently on sale. So they don’t allow a double discount.

You are comparing different lenses here. If you wanted budget lens of sigma, you should compare Sigma 30mm 2.8 ex dn, or Sigma 30mm 2.8 dn a.

Yeah, it’s painful. I wish people would watch without them.

Game over? Huh? You just showed how the Sigma is better than the other two in nearly every way. Not bad for a lens that’s been around for nearly 9 years.

You make good videos but I'm really tired of this insane click baiting.

I think Sigma is done in the lowest price point end of the market. Which was the key take away from my testing, and it’s the question I started the video with.
