Marine Vet with years deployed on a ship and in the dirt. If there was electricity, then was was video games. Guys used to link up the OG X-Box to play Halo in the squadbays, gameboy advance was popular on the boat, and I have fond memories of my shop playing Mariokart Double Dash nonstop. Tina was referring to USOs. They go out of their way to set up morale centers for troops at home, at broad, and at War. Video Games are a HUGE part of the USO.

I'm 45 and retired from the military after 23 years. In my experience, it's definitely an age-based bias when it comes to thinking video games are for kids. Most of my friends and nearly all of my troops (both alpha and beta types) played video games. A lot of older folks think "Space Invaders" or "Pitfall" when they hear video games rather than the interactive media we're used to playing today. Just say "ok, boomer" and carry on.
@dlegault204 жыл бұрын
I'm 55 and play video games and have never heard anyone around my age make negative comments about playing video games. It was strange to hear Justin say that people over 30 are old and don't understand video games. That's not my experience. And stop calling me old!

Really love the show but today's had really choppy video and audio. I've always wondered if it's not possible/feasible to natively record your screens and audio and then put them together in post instead of recording an online video call?
@OttawaHunter224 жыл бұрын
Good idea, but they tend to show each other things on the show pretty often, so I think the online call is kinda necessary for them. Also sending an hour long recorded video between place probably isn’t time efficient or easy.
@dylansvm4 жыл бұрын
@@OttawaHunter22 Yeah I guess it would all depend on logistics regarding the size of the video and all that. But I think they could do it while still having the call. You can capture your cam and your mic only like a streamer would do, but yeah 4 videos of 1 hour long wouldn't be too pleasant to work with

I own a comic book and board game store and often hear the comment, "must be nice to just play games and read comics all day." Yes I do get to do those things, but I actually do it less than I did before owning the store. People seem to forget that it's still a business that has to be run like any other small business. Licenses, taxes, paperwork, ordering product, helping customers, managing finances, and putting in 70+ hours a week.

Everyone has a form of release. Doesn't matter if it's games, movies, food, or even stamp collecting. Gaming might not be for everyone, if you have to justify it.... they just don't get it. For each individual hobby someone has to make, market, distribute, and appreciate the hobby. As I was typing this Justin was saying the exact sentiment. However people escape it's not for others to judge. As long as it doesn't do harm, hurt others or cause interference in everyday life.... have at whatever you enjoy. :-) Tina I understand the television comment. I haven't had paid television in over 5 years. I haven't followed a sitcom or television show in over a decade. I prefer to find my entertainment and not be force fed news, and television on a dietary schedule. :-)

Concern for Nintendo during next gen? Isn’t it obvious? PS5/XBOX will have premium price tags, premium priced $70 games. Thats fine if you want something specific they offer, but you aren’t gonna buy a PS5 to play Stardew Valley. If you’re in a financial position to own multiple systems (including pc), odds are switch will be one of them. At this point aren’t we all looking at how backwards compatible a system is or how available their back library is? When the market is saturated with so many old and new games, and services like xbox game pass give so many away, PS5 is going to have offer insanely premium experiences to pull new PlayStation customers AND compete with game pass type services. Can’t wait to see what devs do with that hardware, but personally IMO I’m kinda done with the graphics race. It’s all flash, rarely any substance. Innovate on a gameplay level, that’s what’s interesting. Remember when modders were inventing entire gaming genres?

I work at a very blue collar job, and a good lot of my co-workers treat video games as childish or a waste of time. Yet their hobbies, mostly golfing and sport fishing, which I'm not knocking on at all, serve the same purpose as games do for me. It's simply entertainment. We do it cause it brings us joy. So weird people feel to need to look down on someone else's hobbies in this age.

An interesting question is what the competitors are doing to match the portable feature of the Switch. Xbox is doing X cloud. My big hope is Sony release a companion device for the PS5 that is basically a vita, but without being a separate system, so just for remote play.

I was just as surprised about the whole Army guy keeps his gaming private. I was in the Navy for 12 years and most of us, especially when deployed played video games all of the time. I am looking forward to this show being in one room again. Daemon is a classic podcast host. Brilliant on camera, but could do with a producer in his house. 😉 Tina never talks if someone else does. Justin also realises the latency problem, so he’s also quiet. And Sam........ Sam has found a way around the awkwardness of video calls and lag. Just keep talking. And he talks. And talks. And...... Seriously though, it does help avoid the awkward silences. Someone has to do it. I love this show. Just looking forward to a more “normal” Gamescoop. 👍🙂

Hello listener host. I was listening through a different provider but felt like i should interject. I am a civilian living in okinawa Japan surrounded by service members. People alot of times forget the military is predominately young guys (18-24). From my experiences the gaming is community is super strong. There might negative vibes from the legacy service members, but that is the minority. Gaming is ubiquitous for this generation. Gaming is how people keep contact with friends in the states and how people stay close here too (ping is weak if you do not play with local players). No looking down from this community i have seen!

There's still a lot of ignorant bias about video games. If my relatives ask me what I've been doing and I tell them I've been playing video games they'll just roll their eyes and tell me to grow up and stop playing with "baby toys". If I tell them I read a book they'll give me a standing ovation. What's funny is that in certain games like RPG (or especially visual novels) you are doing heavy doses of reading that can rival A Tale Of Two Cities.

So I think the scoop crew live in a gaming bubble while the average gamer exists In a world where people around us may not be accepting of video gaming as adults. I live and work in the Midwest(actually in the area Daemon is from) There are over 1000 people In the same building and about 40-70 I interact with on weekly basis. I can count on one hand the number of them that are gamers. I realize that our social circles may be filled with like minded individuals, but the last thing I want, is have my peers and bosses view me as childish because they have a preconceived or prejudice against gamers. So it is not something I bring up... And the reason I even know the gamers is due to the crest of Hyrule on my forearm haha.
