You are correct. Murders didn't happen in the city, it all started in the arkalay mountains (re1)and eventually to the outskirt homes (after re1 and before re2) which spread to the city (re2 and 3). The s.t.a.r.s. members obviously tried to warn everyone and of course irons shut all that down so there really wasn't any warning so when it did reach the city, it was too late really

I just assumed the reason that whichever character the player doesn't pick (Chris or Jill) gets locked up for the whole game is because they somehow witnessed Wesker doing something that would have given away his whole data-collecting scheme, so he put them in that cell so they didn't tip the other STARS members off. Also, I figured the reason Lisa didn't kill the player after knocking them out in that initial encounter is that maybe she was curious about them? Her diary entry seems to indicate that she has the mind of a child.

The problem is reaching the labs, logistically speaking all the paths are closed. SD Perry worked through this well in the admittedly non canon book. She has Jill and Chris move through different paths at the same time, more akin to Leon and Claire in 2.

Another funny sin video, but I would like to point out a few errors. - the murders were taking place in the raccoon forest or in the outskirts of the city (the part which was close to the raccoon forest) thats why the team was dispatched to the woods. - The "STARS" team carried rocket launchers and other heavy equipment due to them suspecting some sort of armed cult, that was doing these cannibalistic murders. - Brad "chicken heart" Vickers, as I've written was a scaredy cat, he was good with computers and was a qualified helicopter pilot but he was scaredy to the core, that's why he ran away on the sound of the gunshots. (In RE2, you can see self improvement books that are kept near the lockers in the locker room, yeah those belong to Brad) - The mansion was deliberately designed in such a confusing way because Spencer wanted it to be confusing, it was something that he liked, morevoer that is also the reason why he killed George Trevor, the architect of the mansion who was also famous for making similarly labryinthinan mansions and houses. (He also designed the house in which the bakers from RE7 lived) - Also "acid" rounds make a lot of sense, since they have a goddam biohazard waste disposal which is basically drowing the whole test subject into acid to kill it for good. Raccoon city isn't a "small town" it literally has city in the name. Hence why they would have a more specialized team. Also they went to the arklay mountains because hikers were reporting being attacked while being out in the forest. The dogs didn't stop eating the guy because they didn't react to being shot like a normal dog would. Even during gameplay you can shoot them multiple times and they barely flinch and her non reaction is shock. Happens to a lot of people when they see something so gruesome out of the blue happen.

Stars. Special tactics and rescue service... I used to think it meant squad instead of service back then, the whole point of the groups is all characters having an ex military background and unique skills + assets that would be better suited for similar things like SWAT, the RPD did have swat but Stars is more of a big budget group and they got to deal with more unique missions. Chris and Barry, both ex air force and marksmen with small weapons + Chris learned to fly. Jill and wesker are both ex army. Jill also had the background of her father being a con...resulting in her learning incredible lock picking skills which even got her noticed by the Army's Delta force, she also received explosive ordinance disposal training. In the novel there was the explanation that Rebecca was some kind of supersmart girl with a microbiology degree and was hired by STARS for lab work. However, she still needed some in--the-field-expierence as per regulations and was thus deployed to Racoon City. Basically, hey, join this team there for 2 months and we will mark your practical expierence as complete and then we can give you the assignement in the lab.

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but a lot of the reason things are frequently "not puzzles", or "pointless", or just plain optional when playing as Jill is that her story is/was considered Easy Mode. You start with your handgun, you don't need to recognize and complete the shotgun puzzle, you already know how to play piano, iirc you have two more item slots than Chris, etc., etc.

The one thing I'll say in Rebecca's defence is that she's basically had to survive through two games worth of combat, fear and trauma, so while she put up like the worst fight against the Hunter, she's been running around all night so she's pretty much running on fumes; pair that with the fact she's a rookie basically and I can see how she just completely collapsed against it.

Helicopters can be stationary in one place while in mid air. Brad just had to activate the auto pilot, get up from his seat and throw the launcher from the helicopter. Pilots do it all the time. Once again Dartigan didn’t do his research. He doesn't even remember that in RE5 the helicopter Josh and Jill use to get Chris and Sheva out of the volcano was stationary mid air while Chris and Sheva were climbing the ladder and firing RPGs at Wesker LOL

Mmmmm.... nope, you actually didn't do your research. Automatic flight control systems for helicopters only exist in a handful of recent manufacture helicopters, and those weren't commercially available until around y2k because of the advanced digital flight control systems required, the helicopter used in REmake is a Bell 204B which was designed in 1955 and introduced to the market in 1961, and is being used by STARS in 1998 doesn't have such a system, AFCS wasn't an option in the "Huey" line of helicopters until recent production versions of the Bell 412 in the 2000's. Also when using an AFCS in a helicopter the pilot isn't leaving the seat, because when using AFCS's some control input from the pilot is still required, it's less autohover and more hover assist even on the most advanced helicopters.

Mario 64 did it with just buttons. Zelda had a lockon, but otherwise quite limited third person camera control but it still worked. Both of these also had fixed scenes with no camera control at all. Come to think of it, donkey Kong 64 worked fine as well. Sure, movement might feel a bit janky still but they could've done it.

Resident Evil 0 was made after this game so Rebecca hadn't done anything in that game at this point. Wesker was the commander of STARS so he could manipulate what weapons etc they take. I suppose you have to assume certain things had taken place off camera. Forest with a grenade launcher didn't make sense, surely he'd have a sidearm to. Acid, Fire and Grenade rounds should've been rubber bullets. Wesker was head researcher so you'd assume he know all the backdoors. The mansion was made to be a deathtrap.

7:22 the directional control didn;t change with each new camera angle. That is why tank controls were used in the first place so it didn't matter what angle it was. Forward was always forward. You are refering to the modern controls added in the remaster. Which is why that scheme didn't really work for classic RE games in a manner of speaking. Each changing had you holding the stick in a direction that even should the angle change, so long as you maintained the the direction you kept moving. But, should the direction need to change, you needed to flick the stick in the new direction. It's fine for what it is. And it's busted in combat on a single screen. So the two in combination I think would have worked if they kept this style going.

If anyone is actually confused, the actress who plays Rebecca Chambers is Lynn Harris, who was also the voice director for the whole intro movie and basically the entire game, for which she also did the casting for. She also dubbed a few pretty famous video games (Skies of Arcadia for instance, and later she reprised her role as Rebecca in Resident Evil: Deadly Silence) and animated movies (like Porco Rosso).

You forget the biggest plot hole of the whole locking up the second character thing. Wesker has no way to actually get INTO the lab at this point. It's locked up until the two crests are inserted into the fountain. I hope, if they remake the remake, Capcom fixes that plot hole for good. At least maybe put the cell somewhere in the MANSION and make your character have to run through THERE to get to the heliport.

If they do a 2nd Remake of RE1... a ReRemake if you will, then they should decanonize RE0 and replace it with a story about Bravo team. This New-0 would either be another campaign unlocked after beating the main game, another campaign in the form of DLC (like Separate Ways in RE4), or accessible side missions in the form of video tapes where you'd be able to play smaller segments from each character (what Rebecca was doing before RE1 [changed from 0], how Enrico entered the lab and got injured, how Richard encountered Yawn, etc).

Some Lore in this comment. So to explain a few oddities of the Mansion. The shotgun is protected by the trap because Mr Spencer enjoyed using it for hunting but he didn't want anyone breaking it or stealing it since its a gun made with special engravings & likely built by some rich persons gunsmith. So its basically insurance but this backfired once which is where the broken shotgun comes from. I am guessing Mr Spencer had some key or some way of deactivating the trap when he came for his hunting trips. The odditiy with the Keys I am guessing is they are either spare keys that are hidden in such a way so that nobody can just get a hold of them & the other way is to ensure that the spare keys aren't easily stolen. I also guess these things are set up by Wesker to help with the combat tests. we can assume more than the keys we find exist as Wesker, & Barry get around constantly without us having opened certain doors. With the other Stars members its likely they found some keys & had opened up parts of the mansion but somebody locked them to reset the mansion for Alpha team. I am guessing Hunk was sent in as 0 shows them cleaning up certain evidence before the leaches kill them. With this they likely got rid of certain keys that certain dead workers held on their person or had kept safe in a room that shouldn't be accessible by the Alpha team members. I also assume we never truly see the events of RE1 as well the cannon version seems to be a mix of 2 versions so we likely just see the important true parts but not the whole picture. With RE2 we know its Claire A Leon B as its referenced in 4, 5, 6 & Code Veronica. With RE2 my best guess for its odd key situation is the chief when he was killing the remaining survivors relocked all the doors with his master key & left a few open to allow the Zombies to roam & kill anyone who came in. Also Marvin & other survivors likely locked a few of the doors as we see boarding up in RE3 Nemesis implying the survivors where trying to hold out as long as possible until Irons & the horde overwhelmed them & the station fell. Irons being shifty & chasing down survivors makes me think this is the most likely case. Edit: on why Rebecca doesn't just save Richard I am guessing its due to that door being Locked so she likely wanted to save Richard but couldn't get to the serum. Chris then unlocks the door allowing her to bring Richard to the room with serum to properly treat him likely Richard was doomed in Jills version as well he is really out of it in Chris' version making me think Jill gave him enough to feel slightly better but he knew he was doomed & thus allowed himself to die to give Jill a chance to get the death mask. Edit 2: see that part with Barry & the torn page well if you play as Chris you don't have anything missing showing that Barry removed the part that was incriminating likely he was going to destroy the whole thing but heard Jill at the door so he removed some of it to ensure Wesker wasn't caught. This file might have been viewed by Chris & thus Chris became a liability to wesker in Jills version.

Something to note is that while the game has both characters' story as Canon, and it being very confusing on how that even makes sense, someone actually made quite a great way to make it canon! The S.D. Perry book (The Umbrella Conspiracy) actually had both characters go through the mansion at the same time, but be on opposite sides, never interacting with each other until the end of the story (the underground lab). The prison however is never mentioned, so they did away with that part. Very good read for those who are a fan of RE!!

Simple explanation about the in-jokes of the original game's version of the dialog; Likely after this mission was over and all the survivors were recomposing themselves, they likely recounted the experience to each other and Barry tried to cope with some dad jokes to lighten the mood. I assume the first helicopter was looking around the forest searching for the "killer" (zombie) that escaped the city and ran into the forest as the second helicopter is investigating the crash of the first one... the bigger mystery is, how did the first helicopter go down? There's no flying zombies in the franchise at this point, the zombies aren't smart enough to use weapons, and Wesker wasn't there to sabotage things yet... maybe a bunch of crows ran into the helicopter blades? It'd make sense considering how hostile they are in the game. To be fair with Jill's poor aim, I can reasonably assume it's too dark to get a clear shot as she for whatever reason doesn't have a flashlight on her. As for the missing character when the game starts, I imagine there must've been a hidden pit one of them fell into that landed them in their cell. Maybe Wesker was hoping they'd all fall into those traps so he could individually test them in a controlled area and see how efficient his creations could kill highly-trained soldiers. Not knowing much about the mansion... maybe they figured it was long abandoned and was a mystery who owned it. The bigger mystery here is why does a supposed abandoned mansion have the lights on... Unless Wesker forgot to turn them off before starting this plot. Barry DID kill the zombie in the original game, but for some reason in the remake he not once considers to go for a headshot like his past self did. ...everything else I can't defend :P

Though i do agree with majority of these sins, but some arent deserving, for example the murders started in the arklay mountains, it didnt spread to the city until resident evil 2 and 3. As for nonody noticing the mansion is because it was designed to be hidden so it isn't in an area people are going to randomly find and not to mention the local police dont deal with the arklay mountains, the sheriff department did. There were also protocols that were followed if a civilian discovered the mansion.

One thing worth mentioning is that we all knew that Resident Evil games were full of camp fires. That was part of the our lives. And the most horror inducing aspect were not the zombies or the well crafted atmosphere and such. The real horror came from those dang tank controls. Even when you had a shotgun you had to go for this weird upwards aim and then stand in the right distance to your zombie or whatever to even hit the spot. That was fun in a not so fun way. It way mostly fun for the ones watching you failing to deliver the head shots and wasting ammo. Zombies, spiders, meat dogs and all were just bonus to the fun.

Okay, so I'm the first to admit that I'm a massive simp for Resident Evil and have followed it for twenty years now. That being said, your entire series of introductory sins is wrong. They were investigating a string of murders that they suspected to be perpetrated by a group of people ritualistically killing and eating their victims. They were looking for what they thought to be an extremely dangerous and elusive cult, hence the S.T.A.R.S. being sent in. Also, the initial murders took place in and around the Arklay Mountains, not within the Raccoon City Limits. Also also, they thought that the iillers were hiding in the woods around the Mountains, thats why they were searching the woods.

In some police forces they do have SWAT medics, they're firearm trained like policeman although they only carry a pistol, instead of a rifle. They drill with SWAT so that they are more prepared to give life saving care when bullets are flying. Although Ive only met a few and they work out of Boston, Idk if somewhere like raccoon city would have them.

From how I understand the T-virus through my own theory the strains have different abilities to infect. The alpha strain apparently only infects like 10% of people successfully & the rest just die. The Beta does infect about 80% or 90% successfully but a small amount are immune to at the very least the zombie part (which I am going with as it doesn't make much sense otherwise) & then the epsilon strain is fully infectious but with a few people can make them basically a god like the Tyrants & maybe Wesker not too sure what he is infected with. Anyway we see a total of 2 people get turned in Resident evil 1 & 0 via bite these being Edward, & Forrest both of which where bit by animals. We know for a fact that Beta can spread via saliva as it turns around 4 people in RE2 & 3 & also Outbreak with these being Marvin, that one Mercenary, an unnamed person in RE3 turns after being attacked outside the bar in downtown & the other officer in the remake. Anyway we know the cerburus are made with the beta strain & I am guessing the crows were infected by the escaped dogs. The epsilon strain however I believe doesn't have as much ability to spread as it was the one that I am guessing was for military use so they likely tinkered it to ensure the bites didn't spread it making it an effective weapon. Release it as a gas like we see in the Mansion & then it'll turn all who breath it in into zombies. The main reason I think epsilon is sterile is because its used in Hunters (which can't spread it for certain) & we see a few instances in RE1 & 0 of people being dead who likely got bit like the 1st member of Stars we find dead & the fact the murders are murders. we also can assume the dogs mainly kill their prey like regular wolves as we see 2 Stars members that are dead due to them those being the pilot & Joseph. The only other things I can note is that its likely that the zombies in Code Veronica are caused by beta as the planes from the Rockfort island base bring the outbreak to the Antarctic site. I believe this theory makes pretty good sense because we see nobody turning in the 1st game & we know that Jill isn't immune due to Nemesis same with Brad but he never meets a zombie. Chris is likely immune & thus his sister & by context so is Leon as these three meet active strains & don't ever become undead. We can also guess people like the guard in Code Veronica, Alfred Ashford & possibly Steve are immune to the beta strain as none turn during code Veronica. But Steve may not be immune as his dad turns but it may be his mum who was immune & just died. Edit: another theory to explain kinda Chris in the Jill version Maybe Chris found another way in (I am guessing the area that dogs can jump in from that short fence or maybe a window on the East side (or west side the side where the dogs jumpscare you) & he just happened to bump into Wesker doing something to clean his tracks & was onto him leading to him being captured to ensure the others don't catch onto the truth. anyway I don't think you can play the real version which would be kinda a Jill A & Chris B basically Jill stays almost the same & we just assume Chris is wandering the Mansion at the same time. I saw a video about overthinking the original game & it gives a good idea of the theory however the series is unfinished so you only get to the end of the Jill Sandwich area at the time of writing. The forest fires are actually cannon in the story. Those fires end up killing the majority of the remaining zombies and other creatures. That's why Re2 happens several months later, it took awhile for the underground lab in Raccoon city to produce enough infected corpses to start a meaningful outbreak. It would have probably been contained had the g- virus not been released into the water supply.

I don't want to be that guy but Wesker knows everything from the get go, the Spencer Mansion is a cover for the Arklay laboratory. Wesker is tasked by Umbrella to retrieve a sample of the virus and blow the Lab/Mansion, killing everyone as well (STARS and survivors). That's why everything looks so sloppy, but it makes sense.

For anyone wondering about who's campaign is truly canon, its either or. The "endings" is what determines canon, and what is canon is jill, chris, barry, and rebecca all living. it wasn't until RE2 that different pllayers campaigns determined the canon, but dartigan is 100% correct there can't be a canon "campaign" as they're both roughlly the same with a few changes here and there.
