Spoiler: Scroll down You find out in the last episode that the kidnapper was really their friend the robot trying to find out why they did what they did so he would know if he could trust them. Once you know that twist then half of the "sins" the kidnapper committed are justified and not really sins anymore. The other "sins" are also just easter egg throwbacks for fans of the other Borderland games which intentionally have characters and situations that are suppose to be cliche. This was really the wrong type of game to do a Game Sins video about.

*Sin 33*: One of the writers confirmed Rhys is a lefty, that's why he punches with that arm, not an excuse for him not using his cybernetic arm, but just something worth mentioning. *Sin 72*: Hahahahahahahahahahahaha, oh my God that made me laugh so much. *Sin 101:* In Episode 5, Sasha says they can't shut the boost off mid burn, that's why she couldn't break to help Rhys and Vaughn. *Sin 154:* That's the joke. *Sin 160:* That's more of a sin on Borderlands in general and not just this game. I've found huge stacks of cash and it ended up being like $1. *Sin 180:* Again, usual Borderlands logic. I've been hit by rockets that haven't killed me, in fact, all it really does is wipe out my shield and a little health. *Sin 217:* She says her reason for not liking Rhys, there are, in fact, three reasons. She could be pissed because, one, he ruled Hyperion, two, never told them about Jack, or three, waited to tell them about Jack. She can also be mad at him for making "googly eyes" at Sasha. *Sin 230:* The same reason Sasha was on Pandora, She carried August into the caravan, which Finch then stole and flew back to Pandora. I take it you chose not to inspect the caravan before marching towards Vallory, as you see August and can talk to him. *Sin 242:* There is an option to say to assemble Gortys only partially, but Loader Bot says that killing the Vault Monster is the only way to keep her safe, for as long as The Traveler and the treasures of the Vault remain, someone will try to use her to open it.

0:57: you can see that the stranger did use a continuous strip of tape. the shorter parts are likely there for good measure 1:56: self-awareness isn't inherently a sin? if handled properly, it can be a great factor in a games comedy, and for the most part i think its handled well here. (for the most part) 3:09: breaking news: voice actors arent allowed to use similar voices for characters in completely different series. what? 5:18: i read somewhere that rhys is left-handed, and for some people its really hard to train yourself out of using your dominant hand. not to mention hes not the sharpest tool in the shed; punching someone with his flesh hand isnt even the stupidest thing he does in this game. 5:38: the game already has an M rating 6:50: look at troy baker, then look at rhys. do they really look similar enough to make that point? 7:34: odds are good that rhys and fiona arent telling every single detail of the story. its just a framing device; nobody can remember every single word of a conversation verbatim, especially if it happened long enough ago for a body to decompose (see the bandit hanging from the prosperity junction billboard). its likely that rhys couldve told that part of the story in a short time, is what im saying 7:53: considering who the stranger is, he might have been bearing a grudge against fiona for destroying gortys and decided to let her suffer for a while 9:20: again, not a perfect recollection of events; this is what fiona remembers of the call, which would contrast with what rhys remembered from his end 11:03: there are more guards than just the ones zer0 shot, like the one that catches fiona and vaughn 11:10: again, its a framing device. its not crucial to the story to know the exact moment that the storyteller changes from fiona to rhys 11:19: yes, plenty of light...thats aimed away from sasha. for her, its probably still too dark to see much of anything. 11:23: the bandit is facing away from sasha and rhys, and i cant imagine those masks are good for visibility 11:41: if you dont have enough moments of downtime for characters to converse, the story feels less about the characters and more about the plot theyre being steered through. if your characters are merely tools for the plot, you end up with a less engaging narrative. i call it "the david cage effect" 13:00: its not just an overly long gag. bossanova is buying time for the speaker to move enough for him to (attempt to) crush zer0 with it 13:59: how do you honestly think you would react when faced with a famous person you used to idolise who _died?_ rhys being dumbstruck is far from unbelievable (also, again, rhys is shocked AND stupid) 14:57: there are only so many big yellow buttons you can press in one day before your luck runs out. 15:23: yeah, because boosting up a hill in that situation would clearly benefit felix so much when the front wheel is stuck 16:04: in episode 5 its revealed that the boost function literally cannot be turned off until its finished. they dont have any choice but to wait it out. 16:26: welcome to Fucking pandora. losing your mind a little bit after a day or so is probably the only sane thing to do. 16:33: did you record this before you played episode 4? shes not helping them, shes ratting them out to vasquez. 17:26: call me an uncultured gen z idiot, but im pretty sure thats not a reference to any pre-existing meme. rhys is making a joke about how he stole vasquez's black car to drive around on pandora. 19:12: the booster cant be turned off mid-burn, and by the time it stopped it was probably much too late to go back for vaughn and rhys. 19:48: it's a little difficult to protect somebody if there are posters all around town putting a price on her head. 20:11: classy. /s 20:39: picking up and throwing a person? not unlikely. picking up and throwing a person _halfway across a city?_ unlikely. 20:53: if youre complaining about the puzzle being overly simple, i can get behind that. but theres at least one puzzle in this game other than this one; remember the hacking segment in episode 3 that basically boils down to a memory card game? ...thats not a good argument, is it 21:00: im gonna be honest, i dont know if universal remotes work like this, but wouldnt they have been out of range? 21:54: a couple of DAYS ago?? 23:46: its likely that athenas voice and appearance were embellished by fiona in the present day to exaggerate how horrifying it would be to get hunted down by a vault hunter. speaking of which, she was working with vallorys men and couldnt tell them she was there to help, which she explains herself. 24:32: and yet you somehow managed to add a sin where you meant to retract one. 25:24: fiona only took a bit of the money (which is probably a sin in-and-of-itself) 26:23: again, only took a bit of the money. again, probably should be counted as a sin by itself, especially considering that this is a loot crate and theres little possibility that anybody is already using it. 26:54: theres nothing inherently wrong with putting references to memes in media. is the phrase "this is why we cant have anything nice" even a meme? (plus, this game _does_ handle them much better than life is strange by being more reserved with them and not expecting us to believe teenagers in 2015 would be using words like "interwebs" unironically, but thats another can of worms altogether whoops) 27:09: its not like they live on a death planet where you could be seconds away from a gunfight at any given moment, right? 28:04: its still nighttime, its just that theyre still inside the dome. 28:29: august cant shoot rhys unless hes prepared to remove his hands, because rhys is one of the only two people who can handle the gortys cores should the need arise. 29:16: its handsome fuckin jack!! hes a dick with or without the power to teleport 30:05: janey just said that the echo turned off right when the fighting started. while she probably shouldve said something between the presumed end of the call and the fighting, the window where she could have spoken up is shorter than you think. 30:53: excuse me, did you just call that a sin? cliche or not, that was absolutely _iconic,_ who do you think you are 32:06: yeah, because a call from either rhys or nakayama's id claiming to be vasquez would absolutely cause no suspicion whatsoever. plus, the rest of the gang would have to get there too, and theres no way hyperion would bring them up with them. 32:41: assuming that vasquez gave them all the same deal in hopes that theyd turn on each other, they wouldve been called roughly the same time as each other. if this is the case, yvette officially turned on them after she called and said she couldnt track the money because her login was being tracked. 33:13: just listen to what jack says immediately after this? "its not as sexy as it sounds, a lot of people have died down there" is about as crass as you can get without resorting to "thats what she said" jokes. which havent been funny for a long time. 33:24: on top of being the most iconic scene in the entire game, this scene actually has payoff in the final episode when gortys manages to weaponise rhys' finger guns. not to mention that the pacing in this part of the episode was getting pretty slow, and a big fight scene like this was appreciated. i honestly think the game would have been worse off if it _didnt_ keep the finger gun fight. 34:36: fiona might still be angry that because of rhys, felix is missing/dead, scooter is dead, she had to kill gortys, and her and sasha were likely forced into hiding. it isnt as strong of an argument as "rhys ditched us mid-mission to become president of the worst corporation in the galaxy", but its something? 35:41: and? theres nothing wrong with making fun of yourself. 37:12: a haiku could feasibly have a line with four syllables. while the 5-7-5 format is the most common, as long as a form of poetry has three lines and seventeen syllables, it technically counts as a haiku. 37:52: if loaderbot immediately came out and asked fiona why she killed gortys, it probably would have given away his identity, which is what he was trying to avoid. whats more, he might have been trying to get them to remember the good parts of their journey as well, since he needs them to work together if theyre going to face the traveller and save gortys. 38:57: again, boosting wouldnt have done anything. 39:06: felix didnt keep any money for himself. he put 9 million in the armoire and blew up the remaining 1 million. if i remember right, he explains this himself in this very scene. 39:50: at least this time it makes sense. "zer0 is disappoint" is seven syllables, and saying it in a grammatically correct way would bump it to eight, which would break his haiku rule (and zer0 specifically speaks in 5-7-5 format) 40:06: its likely that gortys was unfinished by the time athena killed everyone in the facility and that she was going to be given a less innocent personality/her own fighting abilities. we know that she has at least one attack of her own, since she removes her beacon and turns it into a sword 40:27: theyre probably talking about hanging out together in general. its been a long time since they got to see each other, after all 41:00: they dont exactly have a lot of resources back at helios. im sure there have been detonators made in real life with an even shorter range. bullshit sins: 54 final score: 208 sentence: no sequel ever because telltale went bankrupt (hell)
@BazookaGamingGirl2 жыл бұрын
2 things: 33:24 - he literally removed 3 sins for that scene so there is no reason for you to say any of that 39:59 - “zer0 is disappoint” is 6 syllables so he’s already breaking his haiku rule

I don't know why you keep saying it's set in the future. Borderlands isn't set in the future. It's set on a different planet probably a different galaxy which is why they have different technology and some technology that isn't as advanced. For all we know Borderlands could have taken place in the 14th century. It's like Star Wars all over again. Also Rhys not using his cyborg arm as a punching arm is a running gag that is addressed later in the game
@averyterribleperson52928 жыл бұрын
Well for one, Star Wars is set in the future, the story is told through Luke's eyes, so to him it is in a galaxy far far away from long ago, even though it's obviously set in the future. There is also no evidence of your claim in any of the games, it's established that humans encompass many galaxies and planets with tenchnology that would have taken centuries to develope. Pandora was originally a mining planet that used prisoners from other galaxies and systems.

+Buffalo Ruffalo How could you possibly think Star Wars' scrolling narration screens are told from Luke's perspective? Just read the Screen Crawls to figure it out. Here's a quote from Episode 5 "Evading the dreaded Imperial Starfleet, a group of freedom fighters led by Luke Skywalker has established a new secret base on the ice world of Hoth." Sounds like Luke refers to himself in the third person now! To be more on topic, There is a borderlands Easter Egg Facebook page for Roland, and it states that he finished school in 2827. That's as close as we'll probably get for an answer.

+Professional Moron I'm with you, Moron! As slim as the chances for a second season are, I really hope this is not left as a one-time thing. Still pretty enthusiastic about this video being out, though. I very much enjoyed this game, and am definitely fond of it, but damn can some of the story elements be convenient. And no, Teltalle, having Gortys announce them as such doesn't make them less so (even if she's adorable, let's be honest). :)
@ShadowChaotix8 жыл бұрын
+MrsHalloweenJack It is supposed to be a one-time thing. The main reason it exists is to be a tie-in to Borderlands 3, which won't be coming out until after Battleborn is done with. They kind of make references to that in Borderlands 2 DLC and the Pre-Sequel. But rather than make another Borderlands game, which they couldn't, because Battleborn was taking up all their resources, they handed the story materials to Tell Tales and had them make an easy to pick-up version to introduce all the missing players indirectly mentioned. And yes, while they did get quite a few things messed up here...I've yet to hear anyone, who is invested in the Borderlands series, say they hate it. Though, my biggest issue to date still stands with any TT game: "[insert name here] will remember this". They do not and have never remembered any major actions taken by you as the player and the next chapters don't even factor in all the possible choices you could have made to make your gameplay unique. I was okay with all the memes though. It's Borderlands. They were headed down this path since the second game.
@MrsHalloweenJack8 жыл бұрын
ShadowChaotix Thank you very much for chiming in! I appreciate the info. And that's a shame - but I was kind of expecting something like that. Now, considering how successful it's been, maybe TellTale and Gearbox will have an incentive to plan another title? Who knows? And don't get me wrong, I loved it, memes and all. My point was more along the way of things happening being super convenient for our heroes (see: Rhys' almost superhuman resilience, for instance), which would lead to a huge number of Sins, because if you look at the game from a purely analytical standpoint, they make little sense. However, as you said, they're right at home in Borderlands, with their materialistic badass MCs (thank you, non-canon New-U stations! :D) As for "X will remember that..." I felt it was a bit better implemented than in past games; I appreciated how it influenced the building of the Vault Hunting team, for instance, or August's behaviour. I agree though than progress can still be made in that direction (the fact player choice didn't have enough impact used to really bother me, too. Now that I'm attempting to write a choice-and-consequence scenario myself, I'm starting to realize how tough it really can be to have all parameters decided by the player being an influence; there'll always be choices that take precedence on others, and too wide an array of possibilities means you gotta be extra careful with keeping your story coherent... unless you're going to write, program and animate for a hundred paths, player descision can't always turn out as meaningful as you'd want it to be). So I imagine all the characters _do_ in fact remember every single thing the player says (and rehash them at night). It's funnier. And well, even if they don't matter on the long run, reading lines like 'Yvette's face will remember that', or 'Not creepy at all' in the middle of a tense scene was pretty amusing. TLDR: Thank you again! Let's wait for BL3, then! (hope it's still considered).

Dartigan, lemme start this off by saying that I have no hate towards you when I rant like this, but for someone who played this game three times, you missed a whole lot and added a whole lot of nonsensical sins. But if I can clear this up for you.. because a good amount of sins were based off of your misconception. Hyperion doesn't want Jack... they wanted the Echo-Eye or whatever thing that Rhys has in his head. They don't even know about Jack until he takes over Hyperion, they just need the echo eye. TftBL: -30 or so sins.Also, Borderlands if you've never played it, is all about making fun of clichés and game/movie tropes... and making fun of those who make fun of them. You played Borderlands before this, right?You sinned Kroger surviving when its obvious that him and Loaderbot survived together.. if you actually played the game. And the biggest sin that you decided not to talk about, because I guess this isn't about the story or anything but about nitpicking little things that really don't actually matter. But yeah, the biggest sin was the fact that in episode 5, no matter if you are Jacks lackey, or if you hate him, the way Jack treats you is completely the same. He still turns into this psychopath that is pretty uncharacteristic for Jack (I know Handsome Jack, I played the Pre-Sequel and BL2) and decides to turn on the only person that actually never betrayed him the whole time. The Hyperion-Jack ending was worth 25-40 sins in itself if you decided, "Hey let me actually analyze the games story" instead of analyze clichés (which is all Borderlands is about) to fill that Sin quota.You missed a whole lot in this game because you focused on the wrong things. How is Patrick Warburton sounding like Joe Swanson a sin? Its his voice! Please... start actually analyzing games.
@redrocketrider7 жыл бұрын
Hipsterr Ent. The echo-eye is a commom thing, since Sasha sees his Echo-Eye in E1 and tries to warn Fiona and Felix at the deal. Why would Hyperion want to kill him for common tech? Also, that was like 3 sins, not 30. And how is being a psychopath uncharacteristic for Jack? After he was betrayed by Moxxi and the og vault hunters, he turned into a full on power hungry psycho
@russiano87077 жыл бұрын
Hah, congrats, even you, a random guy or girl, dealed with the sins questions better than the actual author of the video. Because you are right, an Echo-Eye is common, but still Yvette in the 4th episode tells Rhys in Vasquez's body, "You were supposed to retrieve his head, so management could download whatever the hell was inside of there that was so damn valuable." Even let go of the fact that Telltale Games could be so careless that they made a character to give a whole line where she almost openly states that Rhys's Echo-Eye somehow differes from the regular Echo-Systems, what already is supposed to give you a hint by implying on that something makes namely Rhys special and namely his eye essential, even with all that said your question could be at least C+ topic in a video like this. But Patrick sounding like Joe killed me. I only started watching and I'm already laughing at the author's conviction like if anyone gives a bird about his tastes. Starting a job like this you must know that smart viewers need impersonal opinion. If he names such a dumb, personal-only dislike towards someone's voice, a sin, then the whole video was going to consist of senseless points which are completely made up. And for me it turned out to be just like that. Of course I'm gonna be judged, but I don't care. 80% of comments here which are defending the video are just another confirmation of a fact that people are ready to fight for something if it's popular and the majority approves it (= likes the vid). Just like any religion or movement. However, can't judge Jack's mind yet, because I'm only finishing Borderlands and will start playing Borderlands 2 and then the Pre-Sequel. You may be right on that one, who knows. Anyway I saw his personality (what he became) in the TFTB, and his words made sense. I made Rhys hating him from the very beginning though, as far as I always reject an asshole character even when he's got charisma. But I know his story already, and his intentions weren't bad. They became when he gained power and lost control. And well he was betrayed, and not just once. Tbh I think that one is at anyone's judgement. For someone Jack is psycho, for someone he isn't. In my humble opinion, him wanting to defeat Rhys was an irony that Telltale brought us as an addition to the plot of the Borderlands 2. Kind of, Jack was betrayed by many, even by them who he trusted to and who he appreciated. And when it comes to his last moments in his life, when he truly realizes that his days are counted down to 0, he himself lets off steam and right on that closed one who never betrayed him if you think it through. Very Ironical. Yeah.

You are dumb as shit, sins don't actually mean anything THEY'RE JOKES this has been stated so many times, not meant to be serious
@russiano87077 жыл бұрын
The author of the video doesn't make it look like a joke. It looks and sounds as if that was a lecture or a report, nothing humorous. If you're looking for a better example, visit GCN channel and try watching their sins on Life is Strange, for example, and after that call other people dumb, if you are twice dumb yourself not to see the obvious difference. And also, even if that was a joke (wow, that's new), that was a badly done joke, because author's misconception of the main plot makes his "jokes" as stupid as you. P.s. You gotta understand what you're joking about, bruh.

Fiona and Rhys have lied several times during the telling of their tales, that's part of the fun. Pretty much always someone calls them out on it, and in that case the lie was called out by Broaderbot. Was perturbed by the 4th point that echo devices were only used for leaving messages in previous games and not tracking. You literally track every single quest objective with one of these, but alright.. Guess I'll keep watching for what other stupid shit you point out EDIT: Also how is Gordys being awesome counted as a sin, however I will give it to you; dropping a grilled cheese is definitely sinful.
@RobbyTheRogue7 жыл бұрын
I think several of you sins can be written off by people listening in on others through echo devices, I mean Rhys could have been broadcasting his meeting to his friend and loaderbot could have been broadcasting Rhys's story to Foina so she could fact check in case he was lying, also a good reason why he waited until he had them both to start asking them. He could have also decided he had little to no way of knowing Fiona's exact location and didn't think he could take Rhys captive for the amount of time it would take to track down Fiona so he could get the full story. Also When Vasquez had Rhy's 'dig his own grave' I kinda assumed he was going to back-stab Vaughn and dump his body into it making it entirely necessary to have him dig.
