To everyone saying that this video is "late" -- as I mention in the video, it's hard for people to look at a situation objectively when the Internet is raging. I wanted to take some time and look BACK at the situation with a clearer head. Would views have been better on this video had I released it in the middle of the drama? Probably...and that's the danger of KZbin culture right now -- rushing to hop on bandwagons with kneejerk responses to rake in views. But that isn't the point here. For me, it was much more important to do the subject justice and get a true assessment of my personal thoughts and feelings about what this means for digital content in general, hence it coming out now.

@DankTank Games Not trying to argue but I find it kinda funny how you find smiling creepy. People have the right to show happiness through smiling even if that smile can only be shown through symbols on the internet. :3 - Alsoooo... idk what's wrong with commenting on a video even if it's a pretty old video. If you have a comment it's better late than never and it's not like the comment section closes after a while of a video being upload. - I just don't understand why people go into comment sections and criticize things like that. *shrugs* ...but that's just a comment, a new comment! MatPat, I've been watching for years now and honestly, one of the things I've realized about WHY I watch certain content and WHAT content I watch is almost entirely dependent on PERSONALITY. You are who I'm watching. The content certainly is interesting, but even if it grew "stagnant" I would still watch this over something a corporation is churning out because it's YOU. I don't know how true this is for other people, but this is also why, above all other "Let's Players" I watch Markiplier and a as a VERY close second, Game Grumps. I watch the odd video by PewDiePie, jacksepticeye, cinnamontoastken, etc. But Markiplier and Game Grumps are where I go to watch new Let's Play videos because I LOVE Mark, Arin, Danny, Suzy, Ross (not so much...), Barry and Brian... They are like internet family to me. The years I've spent watching them also would make it really hard for me to stray regardless of the content produced (which yes, I have felt at times the content might've started lacking, but the fans give them a virtual slap in the face and things go back to normal again). I've been watching videos on KZbin since the very beginning and I will likely be here until the site no longer exists. People like YOU (and everyone who works for your channel) are the reason I will be staying too. If every independent KZbinr disappears because of the corporate interest and massive networks migrating to KZbin from TV, I will find a new location to get my media. There is a reason I haven't paid for cable/satellite in over a decade.... And it's because of the entertainment I can find on the internet. No other reason. And again, I'm getting into the territory of redundancy, but it's people like you who made KZbin what it is, so I really hope they realize that and don't start prioritizing TV content over the content of people who made KZbin what it is today. I believe in equal opportunities for everyone, so if certain content is better, or equally entertaining then sure, it deserves as much praise as anything else. But I hope money doesn't start completely influencing every facet of KZbin like Cable television has for 4 or 5 decades now. What a long post... sorry... I'm quite passionate about this as well even though it isn't really something that impacts my livelihood at all.... However it impacts my lifestyle and that is VERY important to me. LOTS OF LOVE AND APPRECIATION MATPAT and GAME THEORY!!! You guys are phenomenal!

+山岡アンドリュー Did Markiplier get a virtual slap in the face recently about his content? The middle of Fran Bow marked the day I gave up on him after years of loving his work; I watch Jacksepticeye now, he's so much more genuine…but I'd be happy if Mark got back on track. The last straw with Mark was when his fans started telling him he was trying WAY too hard with his "funny voices" while playing Fran Bow and he posted a comment saying "I don't know what you want, this is what you signed up for and this is what you're getting" - which I basically translated as "I don't care what you guys think or want anymore." He actively protested against his fanbase rather than listening to them - I mean, his fans weren't saying "don't do silly voices", we were saying "you're trying way too hard to be funny" (to compare, his LP of Off contained funny voices and it was actually good, he paid attention to the game and wasn't trying so hard to be funny that it hurt to listen to him)…To me, that marked the end of the Mark I loved and subbed to, no pun intended. Did he end up listening?

The "Seriously, Thank you for watching" at the end with the pictures of all of the crew members made me actually cry. That's an achievement, and I'm not going to say why because I don't want to sound sappy and attention-grabby, just know that I have a depressing backstory and that you need to know nothing further on the matter. But, in all honesty, MatPat, thank YOU for making your content, and, with the addition of GTLive, making me feel like a member of a community of awesome like-minded individuals. It's not often that I find a group of people that I actually like, and both you and Markiplier have brought together two of the most amazing communities I've ever seen. Markiplier has created a community of compassion, and you have created a community of intellectual pursuit and a quest for answers to life's questions, both of which I hold very closely to who I am, and how I think of myself. Once again, thank you, MatPat, for giving me one of the places I can look to and have faith. Faith that, even after I die, there will still be others like me that want to know, and to learn. Faith in the logical power of others. Faith in humanity as a whole. And thank all of you theorists reading this, with your big and beautiful brains.

Aryc, you should know, that there will always be someone for you. It may not always be the person you want to, like a random guy on the internet, but there will always, ALWAYS be someone for you. Even through hard times and all the difficulties of life, itself, there WILL be someone for you. And I want to tell you two more things... Life has lots of obstacles, that just have to be dealt with, one way or another. Every obstacle makes you stronger and more prepared for the next obstacles/difficulties. And I also want to thank YOU, you have gone through really though times and I am happy for you that you have made it. Also thank you for the awesome comment you left... I haven't seen such a long, powerful and well written comment in a really long time... You have a strong heart and from just reading your comment I can tell you're a really smart person. Use that as your advantage. Life is hard and full of difficulties that you're just starting to experience. Use the obstacles as your advantage for the next, harder obstacles... Stay strong my friend... P.S. I know I'm just a random guy from the net, but I feel your pain... I am twelve as of now and I have already experienced a lot of difficulties with life. Believe me though it will get better :) As I said... Stay strong my friend. And always try to smile... It is a weird part of the brain that whenever you smile, even if you're extremely sad it will make you forgot why you are sad and make you happy :P

Funnily enough, what drew me to your channel and subscribing to it was the fact that I don't play video games. For the longest time they've never really appealed to me, meanwhile my brothers have become big gaming enthusiasts [to a degree, at least] and the more they would talk on and on about games I'd initially not cared about, I began to feel left out and far behind as I had no one to talk to about my own interests while they would go on about theirs to each other. Trouble was/and is, I just can't convert to gaming, I've tried and I just can't get with it, so all the while I'm still behind with little idea what anyone is talking about. But after I started watching your Theory Videos I began to develop a new appreciation for video games, your videos have helped me to see a deeper, more intricate and thought-out side to things. Suddenly games to me stopped coming across as mindless side-scrollers and 1st-person shooters, but playable stories with a lot of time, effort, and love put into them. Suddenly I had found a way to appreciate a medium I'd previously felt so alien to, and even if I still can't relate to my brothers [fussy, nonsensical little rats...] I thank you for that, MatPat, for helping me see a little farther :)

Well said Mat! I can't remember exactly when I started watching your videos but it was WELL before the whole FNAF thing so... a couple of years so far? anyway. I've stuck around because I loved your style of video making then and I still love it today. So much research and care you put into gathering your information as well as bringing it to the viewer in an interesting humor filled way. You should be a college professor. Video Game History 101 or something. But then you started Movie Theory and GTLive and while, yes, those channels do limit the time you spend on Game Theory, it widens your range of interests and your audience. People who want to see you wrestle with Freddy with Stephenie go to GTLive and those who are burning to know if Anna and Elsa are really sisters or not should go to Film Theory.... I'm subbed to all 3 btw, because you are an amazing content creator. I'd hate to see the day where you're not on youtube anymore, but if it does, I will go to the next platform with you. There's a good reason why people think they are super villains. If you looked from their perspective, there were many KZbinrs shut down just from the word React. Plus senior reacts came first before elders react yet they got copyright strike and it led to their channel being shut down as well. If you tell me this isn't another big corporate move being done by a Big KZbinr then I'd say it's fine for Ellen to Forbes to steal every single idea from Big KZbinrs. People don't care whether they trademarked the word but they are basically ruining others content, had you been a start-up creative youtuber, you'd be pissed.

Many other people may make theory videos but to me Matpat is the OG and I will never go to the Ellen or Forbes side. I'm staying loyal to the best channel on KZbin. Drop a like if you're a part of the MatPat-ers (Working title)

Tobias Hankle "best channel on youtube" you are either a liar or a fanboy
@jaydenong55037 жыл бұрын
super vegito its a personal opinion. "Best Channel" is not just about sub or view counts, it's more about how the contents we are watching, does it intrigue us and do we like it and if we do, on what scale. I can say theodd1sout is the best channel in youtube and some will say some other youtubers like Fine Bros, MatPat, Pewdiepie, etc, it's because we like it more than others, it's like asking whether is Durant or LeBron the best basketball player, or is Messi or Cristiano the best football player, in the end, there's no the best, only one of the best, because everyone's opinion of the best something will always be different.
@jaydenong55037 жыл бұрын
For example my best YT channels are QJB, QiasOmar(QrewTV), VanossGaming, BuzzFeed (Worth It series), theodd1sout, MatPat, FineBros, Jacques Slade, Fitz, JesserTheLaser, Life Noggin, TSM, Twenty One Pilots. These are the channels where I will click first when notifications pop up. By now you know what content I'm interested in. I have to stress people change as well. Last time my best ones are Pewdiepie, Nigahiga, MatPat, FineBros, Bodil40, KSI, Vanoss, Matthew Santoro, Casey Neistat, SivHD, SSundee, WHZGUD2, yamimash, ZexyZek,.

honestly I follow a lot of theorist channels like the carlin bros, watso, etc. but game and film theory are my top favorites to watch. Honestly even when I struggle with nights of insomnia or depression, a lot of these funny animated videos with easy to follow theories with exciting, thought provoking questions, that often are questions only you guys would come up with, help me take my mind off of things, and the voices of both you (Matpat) and Austin are terrific to listen to, and honestly have conditioned me to find them relaxing whenever I'm stressed out. I've learned so much from y'all watching y'all's theories, and I hope y'all never give up theorizing, and I hope y'all have a long, prosperous channel!

Quite possibly the most understandable and plausible explanation for the whole Fine Brothers ordeal. I've seen some of your videos for just a couple of weeks (between Game Theory and Movie Theory), and THIS one sealed the deal, I was kinda aware that you truly analize the topic you're talking about and come up with the best explanation for what's happening/happens/happened. I also found out about the FBE controversy a couple of weeks ago since I started watching their videos, but I came to a kind of similar realization as yours, I didn't care that much since I was more interested on the reactors (you as well since you've been on "KZbinrs React") and kept watching their videos anyways. I really love there's a youtube channel like yours willing to disect something to reach to it's secrets or even a "non-existant" response to something a lot of people might be asking themselves or even ranting about. I'll certainly keep watching your videos and probably recommend you with some friends I know they'll like you, but for now I'll just leave this comment and tell you congratulations for your diamond play button!!

In the last year or two, I went down from 400+ subscriptions on KZbin to 62 as of right now. You are in those 62 subscriptions and I don't think that I'll be leaving you ever. I used to watch a lot of videos (mostly Let's Play's and vlogs) that were just sucking my time away. They were entertaining, but that was it. They didn't make me think. I didn't learn anything. It just made me laugh. And there's a time for that, but I have found many channels that aren't just entertaining. They are also enriching to my life. The build me up and teach me rather than just giving me a quick chuckle. You are one of those channels. You are definitely one of my favorite channels and I love to watch the live-streams (although I almost always watch them after they are streamed). Your videos are so unique, funny, thought provoking, and just in general, excellent quality. Keep up the great work!
@davidwilliama.72968 жыл бұрын
+David William A. P.S. I just went through my subscriptions and got rid of another 6, taking the number down to 56. I look at my subscriptions every once in a while to get rid of the ones that I am not really watching or ones that suck my time away. However, I'm always finding new channels to subscribe to, but I get rid of some once in a while too. The number goes up and down, but it's usually around 60 on average.

I would also add that with big media dying (TV and Movies) and new audiences coming online (Africa and India) there will be more views to go around for everyone. Also speaking as one from your core audience, I have space in my life for about 5-10 more theory videos a week. Just an FYI not a complaint, and I don't think I'm an exception here. More and more people care more about this kind of media than traditional media. If you look at the amount of time I used to spend watching TV vs. how much time I spend watching KZbin it's a little ridiculous. All that to say at this point there is enough space in EVERY NICHE for more competition and like you said we need new voices in every niche. Even small ones like "theory videos." In the past, NO ONE served these niches but here on KZbin and in new media we can be served in a way that we would never have before because traditional media always went after the "short-head." Basically what I am saying is the power of the long-tail is growing, and there is space for a lot of content creators out there. So if you are aspiring theorist, do it! Create your channel and be your own voice, if you are decent and have good theories we will watch you and maybe MatPat will work with you ;)

Best video you've done in a while :-) I think its good to hear a theory that can perhaps leverage the understand behind the Fine Bros decisions however i still think there actions were the absolute wrong way ones to make. Great video and strong message. Competition will always exist as long as there is another option. Regardless if it was KZbin or not there is always competition for jobs, prizes, schools, attention, money, etc and it is part of life. A good way to treat it is as a sparring partner. Know that is there not just to take cheap shots at you but to keep you on your toes and help you learn when to dodge, attack, swerve, etc.
@MattBrownieCake8 жыл бұрын
ultimately if you use your "sparring partner" correctly you will gain more positives from it than negative. For examples instead of focusing on the bruises you now have or the soreness you now feel focus on the new muscles you have worked, the reaction time you have improved, the staminia you developed and the new fitness level you have gain

I've been on youtube since 2005, I've consistently and actively watched videos rather than cable television for the entire duration. Honest to god I cannot remember the last time I watched a program on live cable television, I can say its been more than 5 years. I've met youtubers, married a youtuber, found many friends because of KZbin, and have tried to produce/ create my own content for a few years. I've gone through the highs and lows. But this site, the memories, the ever growing content, and its community (granted not all are great, but a lot of them are!) are why I stay. This site has grown and changed (sometimes not for the better) in so many ways. This video really does preach the truth about this site, its ins and outs, so for that I applaud not only you MatPat but everyone who could make this possible. To the editors, to the people you referenced, to the comment section. I know this comment is long but I don't leave comments all that often either so please forgive me. Thank you for showing your passion for a site I love and cherish. I know during times such as these, with the monetization of youtube videos being inconsistent and unreliable things can be rough. I hope for your company, and any content creator who may be reading this ridiculously long comment, that these times pass quickly and youtube can get back to doing what it does best. Entertaining the masses, and providing a healthy revenue for those who truly have a passion to create.

I think big corporations should be restricted from this site. It's unfair how they get a space at the top of KZbin homepage even though they're already on the biggest TV networks in their respective countries.

Before even watching, my feelings are more. "Wait, anyone still cares about this?" I figured since the fine bros recanted so fast due to all the somewhat deserved negativity, people just moved on to the next big thing. I'm just sort of surprised to see anything at all this long after the event, though I understand not wanting to just be part of the knee jerk reaction group.

As a random addition, I'm both surprised, and not surprised at the seeming lack of people that bother to click that little subscriptions tab on the home page. I've been aware the home page shows me more stuff I'm not subbed to than am. And goes nuts because I watched one new video, and changes into a sea of mildly related stuff. but do people not know the subs tab lists all the videos uploaded by the channels you sub to in order of upload for you? Why am I in the minority of people who just go there to get their subbed content instead of relying on the broken front page? Unless I am aiming for something new, I just go to the subs page. And on another note, I think the front page isn't necessarily broken because it doesn't put your subs there. It seems intentional, since you can go to the subs tab, and the main and trending windows are there to introduce brand new content to you, stuff you wont just automatically get n the subs tab, yeah? I'm honestly baffled and intrigued by this phenomenon as a bit of an outsider to youtube content creation. (but not an outsider to human psychology.) Is there something just unappealing about a long ordered list of your subbed content to people? Is it a failing in terms of reading comprehension? Is it an issue with mobile devices? (I personally hate how youtube functions on mobile, and watch on desktop or laptop.) If you care enough to offer your insight on the seeming ineffectiveness of the subscriptions tab, I'm all ears (er, eyes, I guess!). I imagine this will be lost in the sea of more spammy comments though and go forever unanswered, haha...
@chrisfull70348 жыл бұрын
+kauske I think the reason a lot of people don't go to the subs page is because (if you are subbed to a lot of channels) it is cluttered with videos that you don't want to watch, and they remember to search for their favourite channels, and their lesser liked channel's videos appear on the home page, or on the side of other videos
@Rexodiak8 жыл бұрын
+kauske he was late probably because he did not wanted people raging on him which happens usually when the events are recent
@BDavis-rb6xn8 жыл бұрын
+chrisfull Black_Diamond99 Or they just didn't notice or realize the usefulness of that tab as I just did (which kind of points to bad formatting and communication on YT part). I always just skim through the home page and then search for content I know has been uploaded but haven't seen in a while. I have now been enlightened to this spiffy feature.

+B. Davis I usually use the subcription tab on mobile because it ends up being very useful. However I just tried to look at it in the desktop version out of curiousity after reading this and I puked in my mouth a little. It's a cluster of videos that aren't divided at all, making it very annoying to find anything and to look at. Where as in mobile the cluster works better due to the scrolling on the phone, there's just such a huge overload on desktop that I just can't handle it. A bigger reason to add to this as to why people may not use it is probably because they don't see it in desktop. However in mobile it's very present so more people use it. I didn't even know it was a thing in the desktop until now (Or rather didn't care to check because the home page works wonders for me already).

I have been watching the game theorist channel for about 2.5 yrs and one of my favorite parts is trying to re-think the evidence. The best part to the videos and the film theory counterparts to me is the style of idea presentation and what is sure to be passion. No I am obviously pretty late to this video and I only just learned of the whole trademark attempt by the Fine brothers, The points made in this video are very well thought out and presented even in relation to the normal video. I agree completely that the nature of competition here is a good driving force. All these major companies would not have any idea the power of this platform if not for the hard work and growth of youtube content creators. The foundational nature is very apparent and the direction and potential is so open and near limitless. I hope you are here in years to come and am glad you can appreciate the pressure.

This has been truly eye-opening for me as a KZbin content fan and faithful subscriber to most of the channels you mentioned. I do believe that most of us are not aware of the great privilege of having KZbin and so much content at the tips of our fingers. Moreover, this content comes from independent creators, skillfull and intelligent people that do their best to deliver a particular message to their audience and, thus, change the entertainment industry for the better. Instead of depending on major, multimillionaire businesses for the sake of having fun and finding out new things, we have them and, what's more, we can join them in doing just the same thing, contributing with meaningful content to the community. I am not exactly sure how many of us comprehend the privilege of having KZbin. All in all, no creator, regardless of their field of activity, would ever want their content to be stolen or copied in any possible way and that's a thing only people with artistic drives would understand ( I don't have that many expectations from average human beings with the emotional capacity of a tablespoon ) . People were very butthurt by the whole FineBros fiasco mostly because they have developed a particular fear of the word 'trademark' , without actually perceiving its meaning and understanding it in the KZbin context. No-one really bothered to look beyond the initial decision and the final result was way too dramatic for the actual circumstances. This episode should be a lesson for us all, creators and subscribers alike. As it was already said, KZbin is changing and we should all adapt accordingly.
