I really appreciate the content. It helped me see the benefits of slow jigging.

I just started getting into SPJ. I got my self a nice setup for Ensenada this weekend! The captain said we’re gonna be fishing 150-300 feet. What Gram jigs do I need for that depth? I love all your videos! I’ve learned so much!
@JimFanFishing2 жыл бұрын
you can use anywhere from 150 gram - 250 grams of jigs with different shapes. try to stay vertical while generating as much flutter as possible.

@@JimFanFishing thank you so much! SPJ is starting to blow up here in San Diego. It looks like so much fun!

That's deep water for jigging. I used to fish off So Cal then later moved to Nor Cal and fished off the party boats off Bodega Bay in some 300 feet of water at Cordell Banks. We used 3 pounds chrome jigs to drop down quickly and straight. I often tied a large white curly grub about 2 feet above the jig. I used a Penn Senator reel with a 2 position crank handle (aftermarket). Lings and rockies don't fight. They're lumpers. So cranking up and Dien numerous times can wear your arms down. Having a 2 position handle that allowed me to extend the handle an extra inch gave more torque to crank up 3 pounds of lead plus the fish.

I'm curious why do you have the deckhand bounce your fish for you when you can grab it yourself or reel it in more?I'm not talking crap serious question

Nice video. Could that rod handle a 25lbs tuna?

I think so!

Hello, thank you for your video, it is very informative. May I ask if you have ever used the Daiwa Saltiga? I am considering choosing between the Saltiga and Ocea Jigger, and I was wondering if you could provide your opinion on this.
@JimFanFishing Жыл бұрын
Not yet. I only used accurate valiant SPJ and Ocea jigger. I like Ocea Jigger for its smoothness.

another cool SPJ video. How come spj only works in santa barbara/ ventura area?
@JimFanFishing2 жыл бұрын
mostly likely because the rockfishing resource is abundant over there.

Thanks for the video, I have a trip to LA on Dec and planning on taking a day or two to fish, what leader do you use or recommend for spj?
@JimFanFishing2 жыл бұрын
30lb Fluoro or Mono could work.

Hello Jim , between the innovate and the game type j , w/c would you recommend? Been looking into SPJ rods esp for large grade tuna . Tnx
@JimFanFishing Жыл бұрын
I haven't tried Tuna fishing with SPJ, but I've caught some yellowtail on the Innovate. You can catch bigger fish with game type J, it's just you can't rail this rod so it's going to be tiring.
@gerardperlas270 Жыл бұрын
I just ordered the MH Innovate. I wanna try and feel the difference between a longer SPJ rod vs the shorter one fingers crossed 🤞

Thank you. I enjoy your video as you have good narratives. I have a Goofish and Okuma Hawaiian SPJ rods but don’t have a chance to try them out yet. I plan to pair them with Okuma andros 5n (30# braid) and 5nii (40# braid). Do you think they are adequate for a beginner?
@JimFanFishing2 жыл бұрын
@@wahoowahoo6743 I owned an okuma Hawaiian SPJ rod as my first SPJ setup, but to be frank, I don't think the action is authentic slow pitch actions, and that was why I switched to temple reef as my second rod. With that said, I think you'll still catch a lot of fish with those rods if you go to a good fishing ground.
