So you probably lost a lot more fat then you realize, but also gained muscle which is actually heavier then fat. Great job man and is inspiring for me as I am attempting to lose weight myself.

This is awesome man, I'm 23 and these past few years have been rough. I started gaining weight like crazy during 2020. I'm about 6'1" and usually float around 155-160lbs but shot up to 186 at my heaviest. Like I still look thin but I knew a lot of that was atrophy from not exercising and beyond that I was eating more than ever. Started fasting for a handful of days at a time and then paired that with going to Busch Gardens every day after work and walking around 2-3 miles a day there in between rides. I'm now back down to 163 lbs and it seems pretty consistent in the downward trend.

lmao. 🤣 Thats cute bro. Your comment makes me feel the way someone in their mid-late 20s who hasn't gotten lucky yet probably does, when they read a comment online from a high schooler complaining about being too old to ever get laid. lol. If you think your weight has been rough at 20-23 years old, then just wait until you hit that big 30... that first year is a trip. I only wish I had the young (pain-free and not stiff) body I had back when I was 23 again... that vessel that could withstand a hard workout, accidently getting mad and hitting a wall without breaking anything and having chronicle joint pain forever afterwards... staying up all night and abuse with alcohol, sugar and spicy processed foods. If I could have that body back, but with my much wiser and life experienced brain I have now... oh what things I would have done differently! I was an ectomorph/mesomorph hybrid body type from childhood, even in my teens I was just skin and a fairly healthy (well above average) amount of lean muscle bulk everywhere (that I never had to think about or do anything to acquire or keep - it was just the genetic lottery). This really did not change even in my early 20s, and at 24-years old I was 5'9 and just 145 pounds with a six-pack and biceps (roughly close to Daves weight at that time, given we are the same exact age...1986 babies). In my early 20's I came off of years of being super active and being forced ot play sports instead of relaxing - so after I graduated, I took time off: and I became a couch potato addicted to WoW... and never left the house, basically never exercised, barely moved, and ate like someone twice my weight (and nothing put processed food and several soda's a day). Well... right around 30 I gained 60 pounds in one year, and by 32 I was diagnosed with Pre-diabetes and high cholesterol... and was in constant joint and muscle pains. By 34 years old, I was fasting daily, and walking 12,000 steps a day, as well as eating heathier.... but my blood pressure was high, I had stretch marks, and I had gained more weight (I was 230 pounds). Last year in 2021, my doctor got me on a physical therapy plan to help me lose weight faster (given my terrible lipids, muscle and back problems, and me being terribly out of shape - even with the year of diet and walking). I have been walking 20,000 steps a day (EVERYDAY) for a year now; cut ALL soda and sugar (completely sugar free diet with no artificial sweeteners or candy either) last December; I have not eaten fast food or restaurant food since fall or 2021; I have not eaten ANY red meat (or fatty food) since LAST summer, ONLY eating fish; and I am on a FODMAP low carb diet, and cut ALL caffeinated beverages (no coffee or energy drinks or pre-workout)... only drinking water. I ALSO lift weights for 40 minutes three times a week... And at 35 (turning 36 years old in just 3 months) I have a UTTERLY different lifestyle from when I was 24 years-old (5'9 and 140 pounds) and abusing myself... I even have a tight sleep schedule. And guess what? Living for an entire year with doctor help, and a strict diet and activity... I am still 50 pounds heavier than I was at 24. I still have constant old guy age related aches and pains - and I have IBS and Acid Reflux, so anything I eat hurts and comes out wrong... which is age related thing for some people that you have to live with and permanently alter your diet for (and it still flares up regularly for no reason than to remind you it's there and no cure exists). By comparison, same dude, same body... at 24 years old, I was indestructible. So, if you think it's been bad since turning 20... strap yourself in buddy, you've got a long unpleasant ride ahead. lol. And I am someone with great genetics, was un-naturally healthy growing up (I never missed a _single_ day of school from K-12 and took home perfect attendance awards every year), and I was aways thin and incredibly muscular. I excelled in sports, and all my members (except my mom, who was born with a rare non-genetic heart mutation) were extremely thin and muscular... and 3 of my 4 grandparents lived to near (or over in case of my father's dad) 100. Same with my great Grandparents... all centennials. I wasn't the typical nerdy skid with a weight problem who couldn't do pull up's... I was a jock back then, and healthy as a horse. My genetics are above average... so if it happened to me (and everyone I know) it will happen to you too. Now abused myself EXTRA hard during my 20's (what being a WoW Neckbeard) , and took my health for granted... so I deserved this struggle more. But the rest was simply aging and not modifying my diet to account for it; which to be fair, pretty much EVERY guy on earth will be guilty for when they turn 30). But imagine anyone who has average or bad genetics! 👀 I see them all the time, and they look 10 years older than me, and many of them either have fat rolls and no chins... or they are bone thin and look like death warmed over. It's rare to see a fit millennial in the mid-late 30s in a lot of places here in the United States (outside of places like California), because it's really hard to fight a slowing metabolism, low energy, and natural joint wear and muscle pains and stiffness. The conditioning also takes a decline every year. The worst part is even at my (relatively young) age, I know that even if I can stay in the best shape I can... I have a whole life to fight a losing up-hill battle with the reaper, and to wish I was 35 again. That's depressing for sure, but that the aging process for even the healthiest folks. Appreciate where you are in life for now my friend... (just googled this) science says you are literally at your biological prime at exactly 23. After this year, you begin the s-l-o-w downward trend to 30 (minor aging), then at 30 it dive-bombs every year until 40...then even faster after middle age. There is a reason most NFL, NBA, UFC, and Olympic athletes retire by 30... and why even the BEST ones (the one in a million genetic elite) like Connor mc Gregor and Shawn White start losing after 30. That's why I tell young people your age to enjoy every moment of what your young body allows you to do now, do not abuse peds or drugs, and take extra care to not hurt yourself or gain and hold lots of height (and keep up that exercising). You only get to be 23 once, and it's an experience that goes by faster than you realize! Not to depress you, but you're 20's are the last decade of your life that your body allows you to ignore your own mortality... you lose that, when you start waking up (every single day of your life) with chronic back pain, and your feet & knees hurt for no reason immediately after they hit the floor as you get out of bed. The old man noises you make every time you bend over, and the constant pulling of muscles you never knew could be pulled (even when you work-out often) is just the icing on the cake to let you know you lived long enough for gravity to hate you! lol 💪

That's also completely normal, after several weeks of working out you'll go thru a period where you'll be growing muscle at the rate that you're losing fat so it won't look like anything's happening. Keep at it tho and you'll eventually start losing weight again.

Wow, this is really bringing me back! I actually found your channel from the Wii fit U review you did. Congrats on your weight loss and the victory! This video is directly inspiring myself to make some changes in my own life. I'm making a sort of bet with myself: if I don't exercise for 30 minutes every day for the next 3 weeks, I have to donate $10 to you for each missed day. I've found most progress comes for me when I put my money where my mouth is...so here goes nothing (or here goes $210 if I spectacularly fail). I'm gonna give myself 5 rest days so I don't overwork myself though. Thanks for the inspiration Dave! EDIT on Nov 9, 2022: wow- can’t believe it’s been 3 months! I partially achieved the challenge- got busy towards the end and didn’t hit the gym as much as I planned, but maintained a healthy eating mentality. At the end of 3 weeks, mid August, I had dropped 10 pounds from my all time peak on July 14. Luckily, I mainly stuck to it, and to date I’ve lost just over 22 pounds from my peak! Progress has slowed considerably over the past month, with my weight only dropping about a pound or 2, but fitness is a lifelong journey and as long as things are going in the right direction, it’s all good. Also, as I continue to eat healthy and lift weights, I’m not expecting the scale to keep on dropping. At this stage, I’m more worried about replacing fat with muscle mass than dropping the number on the scale. I want to specifically thank Dave on this one. I was directly spurred by this video to finally take back control of my health and get back on my fitness journey. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for inspiring me!

Man, if I were 175.5 I would be so small. The key is to lift weights, build muscle and with that increase your metabolism, while burning more because you're lifting and need to recover. And of course, eat real, unprocessed food. Not nonsense. Meat, eggs, dairy, potatoes, pasta, rice, non-weird bread, and sure, veggies too. This will stop food being for pleasure in your mind and will truly empower you.

First, congratulations on your fitness growth! The first month or so is always the toughest. Second, I was in a similar situation last December. I felt overweight and not myself. Everyone around me kept saying I was slim and didn't need to worry, but I had gained 15 pounds over the pandemic and knew I wasn't in good shape. Started my journey and haven't looked back. Congrats again and I'm always happy to see a video from you!

This was fantastic! I have been on my own journey the past year and a half and I was the heaviest I had ever been in my life in March 2021 - I then lost 10 lbs and have been trying to maintain it or stay around that. I had never worked out in my life...decided last year to start running and now I have been running several times a week since last summer! After having a kid, I definitely gained some weight and just got kinda lazy with my health. This video was seriously motivating, hilarious, and put a huge smile on my face. Love love loved this!!!

Weightloss journeys, no matter the weight lost, is truly a great experience. Mostly because it gives a true sense of mastery in setting yourself a goal and then reaching your goal through persistance and discipline. I myself have been on a weightloss journey and have dropped 47kg (100lbs) and the reward in it is really that very feeling of reaching that goal and having proven to myself that it was possible. Loved the video, Dave. Keep em coming. Gave me a huge motivational boost this one

Just found your video in my recommended. Ive actually been on a weightloss journey myself, and recently picked up ringfit. I go to the gym multiple times a week and do weight training and cardio, and I usually do fine. Ringfit, on the other hand, took me out back, beat my ass, took my limp body into the driveway and then ran me over. So dont feel bad, man. Ringfit is HARD. Even physically fit people have said its hard. Its nothing to be embarrassed about, as we all start somewhere. You're amazing for even starting in the first place!

Joking or not, Its a good thing this is happening. Its a message. You dont need a gym membership to take initiative for your physical health. You dont want a gut like Dave, kids. Eat your veggies, and make sure you get some outdoor activities in. Go for a swim if you can. go ride your bike around the block. Heck, you can even boot up the old Wii Fit. The only limit is the initiative you’re willing to take. Now go outside and enjoy your summer.

Pushing 50 myself. Used to do some pro wrestling in my younger days. Broke my neck, and now 25 years later, I've started getting fat. Like legit fat. I'm tall, so 250lbs. for me isn't exactly overweight, but over the last year or so, I've been cutting back on certain things, and now I'm just almost under 200. I haven't been that light since high school! After getting diagnosed with AS, it's impossible for me to do even the lightest of workouts involving anything upper body, but just by cutting calories, I dropped almost 50 pounds in just about 10 months. May not seem like a lot overall, but it's a fifth of my overall body weight. Not gonna stop drinking my Scotch or beer, but by skipping lunch every so often and getting 5 chicken tenders instead of 7, it worked.
