I'm not sure as it's only a hour-ish long game and I don't know the creator's intent, but this really seems like a story about a person suffering from executive dysfunction. It's a symptom that often accompanies depression and can make doing "mundane" or "normal" tasks very difficult mentally and emotionally. I appreciate that Carla was supportive and kind at the end there in spite of the difficult time she apparently had.

It's annoying when youre in a good state of mind and not struggling, but when youre in it, it feels almost impossible to function. But I also get frustrated with real life minutae and hae ways to skip around stuff. idk as a game it doesnt really work unless you know the intent going in...

@@Skellman98 Once I realized what the game was doing, I thought that was pretty clever how they incorporated that mechanic. In any other point-and-click game, you probably could just click the mug on the microwave and be done with it. But if you're struggling with executive dysfunction and/or depression, then yeah, going through every single step of opening the microwave, putting the cup in, closing it, starting the timer, waiting for the cup to finish, THEN taking it out is going to feel like a tedious slog just to accomplish one thing. Makes me kind of sad they seemed to miss that part of it, but I get that "slow-and-steady introspection" just wasn't the mood they were in and I can respect that.

I just wish I was told up front they’re using a walkthrough, and not finding out halfway through because Arin just magically knows how to do things. It kinda feels like they’re trying to trick the audience into consuming a scripted walkthrough as authentic gameplay. I really only like watching the latter. They did the same thing with Danganronpa and it rubbed me the wrong way.

I see this more as a depiction of depression. Some days, its hard to get out of bed.... and then these "little things" Dan and Arin keep joking about, really take a toll on you. This game definitely is reminiscent of Executive Dysfunction, ADHD, Depression, and a few other things you could throw in to make basic chores harder. It was really sweet that Carla was understanding and nice even if it was just minor inconveniences, since trying to force yourself to do chores when suffering a chronic illness, can feel like trying to put your hand on a hot stove at times.

When they gave the character crap for when he went fetal - that part of the game actually hit for me. That's someone who had an awful day the day before - got in a fight with Carla, the cereal incident - and now everything's going wrong this morning. When you lose that last spoon, and you don't have the emotional capacity to deal with anything else, it's not going from 0 to 100 - it's going from 95 to 105, and was just getting covered up before. Do what you gotta do, Dave. Take your time, take care of yourself. When you're ready to get up again, you've got this. Until then, I understand and have your back.

@@BoterBug I feel like Jackscepticeye (and Markiplier too, though I don't watch as much of his stuff) are able to balance both very well, they can be entertaining whils playing games like this but also acknowledge and address the seriousness. They do it very well, but I get why the Game Grumps, having started as a funny haha channel, find it difficult to balance something heavier and continue to just do the funny haha's. Like you said, not mad, just slightly dissapointed but still watch their stuff. And at the end of the day, outside the games, they are both great dudes who take this stuff very seriously. Arin is actually a very kind soul who just comes off as douchey for his persona on GG, and Dan we all know is a lil angel with janky thumbs

I understood what was happening the moment just getting up and out of bed was painfully arduous. For the player, its in the waiting for dialogue by the character procrastinating, every thing you need to do actually consisting of many, infinite, additional, smaller steps to actually complete a task. The microwave being so tedious to fuck with in the game? Depression, ADHD, and other experiences that make executive function a struggle can make even these 'easy' and simple steps feel... hard. Annoying. Tedious. Frustrating! Doing the laundry isn't just ONE thing... its picking up EVERY piece of clothing. its finding the right soap. its measuring it out. Its remembering the settings. What buttons was it? I've never used this thing before. Fuck this is new and I'm not familiar with it... I think you get the gist. I relate to the battle "just" to find your pants and get ready for work. Because its not "just" for people who face these kinds of struggles day after day, hour after hour. Its easily overwhelming and so infuriating and you find yourself in over your head until the only thing left to do is.... shut down. Disassociate. This is easily done when retreating into gaming or other hobbies that are more rewarding and easier to feel accomplished in, delivering that dose of chemical and psychological goodness you were craving all along and weren't getting out of /actually/ accomplishing your daily tasks.... Love the guys, but they are just a bit dense sometimes. BUT, that's why I don't watch them for uh.. high brow analysis. XD

This game is pretty clearly about neurodivergence and how even the simplest of tasks can seem so difficult, how stressful it is when things go wrong, and the urge to do anything *but* the task at hand. The man is very pessimistic and anxious, not even wanting to get out of bed. Even with a lover, a big house, a mother who loves him, a cat, and all the nice things in life .... basic tasks still feel exhausting and tedious and that takes a huge toll on a person, especially when they don't go smoothly.

Annoying. Tedious. Frustrating! Doing the laundry isn't just ONE thing... its picking up EVERY piece of clothing. its finding the right soap. its measuring it out. Its remembering the settings. What buttons was it? I've never used this thing before. Fuck this is new and I'm not familiar with it... I think you get the gist. I relate to the battle "just" to find your pants and get ready for work. Because its not "just" for people who face these kinds of struggles day after day, hour after hour. Its easily overwhelming and so infuriating and you find yourself in over your head until the only thing left to do is.... shut down. Disassociate. This is easily done when retreating into gaming or other hobbies that are more rewarding and easier to feel accomplished in, delivering that dose of chemical and psychological goodness you were craving all along and weren't getting out of /actually/ accomplishing your daily tasks... Its a rough experience, and Dan and Arin completely play the part of /exactly/ what makes people like this feel guilt at their own illness and the way it makes them feel, their own perceived failure and struggles with doing what everyone else just seems to magically do like its no big deal... when your brain doesn't process things that way, and every little thing IS a big deal when even the little victories in life aren't there for you anymore... how it builds and builds day in day out, and the rising of the anxiety of the quickly towering and looming pile of tasks, responsibilities, and more... the utter lack of empathy from Dan and Arin honestly kind of hurt. It felt callous and almost petty. Of course two successful, rich, happy people who don't experience this struggle would belittle someone with mental health issues because they're too out of touch to understand where the protagonist is coming from. I love the grumps, and while I don't think they intended to make fun of the protag so coldly, they clearly let the actually palpable and relatable struggle of the game go way over their heads. I guess that's just the difference between lived experience and empathy, and not being under the pressure of keeping up some sort of funny persona with a constant stream of words coming from my mouth.

I love that game so hard. Played it multiple times just to enjoy sorting things differently. I don't think it's a game that will jibe well with Arin unfortunately, but Dan might find it satisfying. Could be wrong though, maybe they'll both love it.

@@obcfamily Dont have the exact time but its the part he mentions forgetting to make his bed ruins his whole day. Nothing wrong with wanting to make your bed or having a preference but when forgetting to make your bed is a big enough deal that it can ruin your whole day its likely an OCD trait. Probably wouldnt have noticed it, except in previous shows hes mentioned being OCD so in that light a lot of his habits start to make sense.

I go on drives all the damn time. Carbon output aside, there's so much that you can discover when you're just... wandering. Did you know that you guys, there in LA, have a couple adorable little mountain communities in the hills outside San Bernadino? Big Bear Lake is gorgeous. And believe it or not, Joshua trees do, in fact, grow outside Joshua Tree National Park, including along little back roads that run through a small historical village. And there's so much variety in the geological formations around the high desert... Going for a drive is an adventure. One that I could never, ever give up.

"why did we decide that mint equals fresh?" is an interesting question. I believe it has something to do with the cooling feeling it gives? The only problem is that it became so synonymous with fresh that it's hard to find mint-free dental products for people with mint allergies. IDK about other places, but they don't even sell antimicrobial mouthwash without mint. just the alcohol-free fluoride kind(still better than not mouthwash at least) with cinnamon flavor. Edit: Cats absolutely lick their own bums.

Most mint toothpaste (re: almost all toothpaste) just plain hurts my mouth though and causes a phlegm response in the back of my throat that makes me gag every time I brush my teeth. I’d use a different toothpaste but it’s prescription… I just hate that PAINFULLY MINTY is the fucking default toothpaste flavor? Mint can be refreshing without hurting but apparently Big Toothpaste hasn’t figured it out yet…

I leave the house, sit in my car and realize I’m wearing socks, shoes, underwear, shirt and NO PANTS! I go back in and no matter what, I keep getting the combo wrong. At that point, I’m so depressed I wanna call out saying “oh, the reason… I forgot how to put on pants!”

This game was really cute. Also, in case anyone was wondering, "constellation" IS the name for the grouping of stars - it's the official/recognized/what-have-you grouping. So, Cassiopeia, Ursa Major/Minor, Orion, etc. An asterism is an unofficial grouping of stars that also make some sort of shape, sometimes ones that can be found within constellations. For example, the Big Dipper is an asterism found within Ursa Major.

41:59 Cat and dog food is legally required to be edible by humans, though it's very bland as strong flavors aren't good for or liked by most animals, so it wouldn't really be salted. It is made at a minimum from the same grade of meat that is usually used at prisons (Which, coincidentally is one grade higher than the meat bought by the US military). So it can be construed as to be good for you as in it doesn't really have anything other than food product in it...
