this game really does what every other poular piece of Liminal space media does not. the backrooms, for example, became basically SCP mascot horror for teens, with all the lore and squiggly boogeymen. the whole point of liminal space (and the main reason why i LOVE the concept) are the lonely, slightly surreal and alien versions of mundane non-places. there's always a possibility of something right around the corner and the most important thing is that there NEVER is. Never! the tension is immideatly gone when something jumps out and goes "boogley boo!!!" and the only way to get that constant underlying feeling of low dread that is inherent to liminal space (just like the anemoia) is by being ALONE (while feeling you MIGHT not be).

The pee thing is an old wives' tale because the chemicals required to get a color out of the chemicals in urine would both kill us and still react with our sweat anyway, and we sweat A LOT. What you should know, however, is that chlorine is naturally odorless. That smell comes from the reaction between chlorine and urea, which is in your sweat and pee. If a pool smells intensely of chlorine, then it's likely a lot of people have either peed or sweat in it. Good news, however, is that once the reaction occurs it's turned into completely harmless carbon dioxide. So there is no need to worry. The bacteria is dead, you inhale a bit of pee-CO2 like we all do, and remain clean. That said, however, take a shower afterwards because the concentrated chlorine is VERY bad for your skin.

Interestingly enough, subliminal and liminal have both evolved in different ways despite their identical origin. Subliminal means "below the threshold of sensation or consciousness; perceived by or affecting someone's mind without their being aware of it." Liminal means "occupying a position at, or on both sides of, a boundary or threshold." Where subliminal is actually derived from the word "sublime" in it's evolution from French to German to English, our definition of it has specifically to do with psychology rather than it's relation to the word "liminal." That's why it's kind of confusing. Liminal is directly related to a point, it doesn't make much sense that subliminal wouldn't be the opposite of the word.

I love the fun little Danny/Arin convos in this game. It reminds me of some of the parts of Bloodbourne where it’s just them talking, then the game will show something like a diving board to the void and captures their attention. Would love to see them play this all the way through.

My Godfather once visited Geiger’s house, and saw him riding the train track in his yard. But what was really catching was the fact that every room of his house had piles and piles and piles of notebooks and papers with hundreds of sketches on them. He took one and asked Geiger’s attendant if he could keep it, just because at that point he had gone a bit senile and was difficult to communicate with.

Arin is referring to liminal "vibes" like an empty convention hall, or those feelings popularized by "the backrooms". Dan had a pretty bang on definition of actually liminal, a place that isn't in and of itself a destination. A hallway would be liminal because you do not go to a hallway, you go through it. A doorway would be liminal, as it is just a place you are in until you get to the place you want to be.

It's a dream about having to pee, and maybe poop, which is why there's water everywhere, and sometimes you sit down, and sometimes there's toilets, and sometimes there's even bathroom stalls, but not always toilets inside. The tumble down the slide is you falling out the bed, but you didn't wake up, and you still have to pee. The best way to end this game would be w/ a man waking up in a puddle of his own piss, sitting on the side of the bed, putting his head in his hands b/c he should've realized this was a pee dream and awakened, but for some reason he didn't, and now he is disappoint.

13:11 Subliminal is under thought. As in, trying to send a message without the recipient knowing. "liminal" in liminal space is trying to give the impression that they're spaces on the edges of thought. It's a space between, like Arin says, but I think it's also supposed to be a place that FEELS familiar. It's a place that makes you think of other places without being any of them. A place that's only unusual if you're forced to think of it because there's no way out.
@fireblade2955 ай бұрын
Which is why Backrooms and other -rooms are never and will never be liminal. No such places exist, but you look at actual liminal images, nearly all of them are real.
@EALoArt5 ай бұрын
@@fireblade295 in that case, you could argue these game worlds are the BEST liminal spaces. They both exist, yet don't physically exist. They're known to people, some probably well enough that they could navigate the mazes - but you can't go there. Also, how real does an image have to be to be real? If I photoshop a real place enough that it's not the same place anymore, does that make it not real? If that makes it more liminal there's a thought about the connection of liminal spaces and AI art - it's an amalgamation of a bunch of stuff but it's not real. What about photos of places that used to exist? You could argue the photos of the mall I used to go to are of liminal places - they don't exist anymore, because the mall doesn't. Just to be clear I'm not trying to make an argument or anything. Your comment really made me think and I appreciate it. Thanks!

i am not normally affected so much by liminal spaces but this game makes me feel like my skin wants to puke. i have the deeply unpopular opinion of finding warm and yellow lighting to be very stressful (i like cool/blue lighting) and dirty feeling and so this whole game haunts me that plus the claustrophobia, maze structure, and the strange architecture pisses off every cell in my body. feels like a parking garage you'd get endlessly lost in. the water is somehow the only relaxing part of this for me lmao. the rooms without pools make me do the cat puke noise
