@@EgonSpengler_ Maybe it’s something to do with the fact that, in chess, if you get a pawn to the other side of the board you can transform it into another piece, usually a queen as queens are generally the most useful; but checkers takes this relatively edge-case rule and makes it a central mechanic of the game. So if you interpret the ‘kings’ in checkers to be like the equivalent of queens in chess, it makes sense that some French speaker might’ve started calling it “dames” at some point in the past and the name caught on

I remember awhile back my interest in game grumps was lowering, their was a time where I was about done with these guys, but then the golden age hit and I got sucked right back in, and then they made episodes longer and it only made it better in terms of comedic flow, imo. Aaron, The | The longer episodes aren't really more work for anyone. Along with the extra length, they adjusted their upload schedule to compensate. And, in fact, the episodes themselves are less work. The main reason they did it was because it was more taxing to do 7+ episodes, pausing every 10-15 minutes. Interrupting the flow like that makes the sessions feel longer for them.

There actually is a Stalemate rule to checkers, if it is your turn and there is no piece you can move you lose. Like, absolutely nothing you can do, no open spaces for your piece. I've done it to some people, and their frustration fuels me.
