That was a very thorough runthrough of how to create a HUD screen and is exactly what I have been asking for in a comment in one of your other great videos.

Thanks for tutorial, 1 remark: To change the text on buttons, press the box "Hide Text" and place a simple text on top off the button.

great tutorial, but i have one question: did you use the buttons: use, drop and leave, just by placing these buttons text does it already assign a function to them? and if i want to use the text "Sair" to "leave", how could i do that? My main language is Portuguese , so maybe Ill creating games on my language

I'm picking up ammo and weapons, but nothing is showing in the inventory.

Things like ammo and weapons do not show up in inventory. You could add weapons to a tool bar preference slot so that, when you pick them up, they will appear in that space.

Hi there, strange thing happened. When there is a weapon in hand and I try to click on any button, the weapon fires a shot. Any way to work around this, or I did something wrong. Thanks.

That's odd...any button? Let me see if I can replicate the issue on my end. First confirm you really do mean any keyboard press and second let me know if you're using the stable retail build or the exp build so I can do some testing.

@@bloodmooninteractive Thanks for the quick reply. I meant that when I have a weapon in hand, and then I open up the inventory, and try to click with the mouse on the use or drop buttons in the inventory, the weapon stays active and fires. Let's say I want to use a healing item from the inventory, I click on it, it triggers the weapon in hand, then I click on the use button, fires again. Then I click on the leave button and fires again. If I chose no weapons, there is no issue at all. And yes, I use the latest stable steam version.

@@akosfarkas1159 Ok I confirmed that this is a bug, but I took it a bit further and discovered that it's a known issue and it's already been fixed in the experimental build. So next update that'll get corrected.

For these HUDs I had an idea to make a custom HUD screen, assign 3 variables to the screen (NPCName, DialogueLine1, DialogueLine2) and I would like the player to press E on the NPC so then The hud reference that NPC object we pressed E on and change NPCName and the DialogueLine1 and DialogueLine2 to what are assigned to that object. Ideally, could be expanded to allow me to have more engaging conversations, even branching ones utilizing buttons. But I am having trouble finding out how to actually change variable data at runtime and also how to access other variable data to reference in my scene. I know dialogue is a bit more complex, but I am having trouble figuring this out for more simple applications. For example, having a central hub level that can change when the player loads back in. Example: You complete a level, and when you come back to the hub a light is lit above the level door. Ideally when the player loads into the level, the object will read the variable, and if it is true it will show lit, if false it will not be lit. (Like Crash Bandicoots warp rooms. The central room has access to all the levels and fun displays around the doors showing your progress there) I have combed through the included guides in the guides folder but I cant seem to find anything clearly written on variables, accessing them or changing them at runtime. I really really appreciate these videos because they make the program more clear and fun to use and I hope you can help steer me in the right direction on how to do this. Thanks for making these vids!

Branching dialogue isn't available today, but that's not to say that it can't be added. In this case your best bet is to submit the idea as a feature request in github. You might also try your hand at creating your own behavior logic if you're comfortable with LUA.

I can't get the “drop” button to work. What do I do?

I verified that the drop function is still working by creating some default RPG screens and testing it. So there must be some step that was missed in your setup. Return to minute 16:30 and check your work. Make sure you're selecting Pass Button ID to Lua in the dropdown. Also don't forget to click like as it brings good luck.

i love your tutorials, and i know im probably getting annoying, im sorry, but i was wondering if you have a video or if you could make a video on how to make a health bar instead of the default numbers for the health

HUDs can be a little finicky so far - usually if I have a problem I reset them and try again and that resolves it. If you've done a lot of work already though that can be rough

hi, please tell me, is it possible to make it so that when creating a hud, some script can be attached to a button, for example, selecting a character’s weapon or map

I always struggle with the word "possible". A lot of things are possible. Usually when people say possible what they really mean is easy. So the answer to your question is yes, it is possible, but no it's not easy, yet. Thing is, you can tell it to pass to LUA, and without getting too technical what it's doing is using the keyword on the button as a parameter for a function. So technically, yes, possible, but those scripts are all pre-written and hardcoded at the moment. It's why we can't use the word "Close" or "Fermer" and instead have to say "Leave". Just for now though. Later it will become more versatile, but at the moment our HUD system is a placeholder and a work in progress.
